I think the number of threads and posts about transgender issues on GN are getting ridiculous!
Is there really nothing else going on in the country and world?
The "NHS hospital in Scotland" that are being demonized here saved my life once in an emergency. They can ask everyone if they like gerbils as far as I'm concerned. This article (from the Mail) is just rabble rousing.
Just read the poster and try to apply some common sense, folks.
The more I see and read of all this (and on GN), the more it befuddles my brain completely.
Am I unusual that no one I know in RL actually discusses this as a really pressing issue? Bonkers!
- though I can understand why some might if it personally affects them.
I 'd guess they are aiming at people who may have started transitioning but haven't completed it /Why does this annoy you so much?
Its JUST a poster ,its not taking up anymore time than the usual form filling will .
I'm 68 ,my gynaecologist always asks me if I might be pregnant ....he also takes 20 years off my age ..I'm not offended its funny!!

I asked one of the teachers (!!) to go and choose some gerbils once to buy for Pet Club and she came back with guinea pigs! The sex was the last thing she considered! 🐁 🐭
This poster is in the radiotherapy department. Isotopes as treatment. Don’t you think asking a 12 year old boy attending for cancer treatment distressing enough without confusing the lad? I do. It’s ‘being trialled’ at present. Hopefully it will get trashed.
The world is going mad. Instead of asking the 98% of patients to whom this has NO relevance, wouldn’t it be better if the 2% it is relevant to, flagged it up with the radiologist themselves either when they attend - or at the referral stage by letter from their GP or cancer consultant?
The hospital trust is covering its back.
It's possible for 12 year olds to get pregnant. It's also possible for 12 year old females to identify as male. Therefore, it's theoretically possible for a 12 year old, who identifies as male, to be pregnant.
Can you imagine the outcry if the foetus of a 12 year old were to be damaged by radiation? It's highly unlikely, but it could happen and the hospital could be sued for millions, if it had never asked the question.
Well the world is going mad in lots of ways - but the total obsession with these issues in GN - agree with above posts. For goodness sake, what others have said above, get a grip on what really matters.

No, I think most 12 year olds have far more sense than you give them credit for. They'd be accompanied by their parents/carers anyway, so they would be responsible for completing any forms.
I agree Urmstongran, absolutely bonkers…….
The radiologist is checking for the possibility of harm being done to an unborn child. Why is that ridiculous? I had excellent care today in an NHS hospital. One question I was asked was if I had any shrapnel in my body. Perhaps I should have taken umbrage at that and slammed the questioner.
Everybody having an x-ray gets asked questions from the same questionnaire. Nobody's going to print out a questionnaire with a different set of questions for 12 year old boys who might have cancer.
Which is of course what people in the know about these things said the last time we discussed this particular moral panic on Gransnet
Can I refer you to one of the threads here earlier this week where someone alerted the medical staff to the fact they were pregnant but the medical staff didn't pay enough attention because of the person's appearance, and their baby died?
I'd rather have some offended Gransnetters than dead babies.

Same here, although I don't think anybody takes anything off my age :-(. We just have a little laugh and my response is something like "It would be a bloody miracle if I am".
I don't think there is anything approaching an obsession on here about these issues.
Compare them to a thread about... hmmm... let's see...
The royal family slagging off Meghan and there is no obsession.
As to the "why does it affect you argument, well, it probably will, somewhere down the line.
I can see why they have done this. If my teenage GD went for an x-ray they would not know that she was a girl as she is calling herself by a boy's name, dresses as a boy.

Thank goodness Meghan isn't trans!
I agree. Meghan/Harry is almost up there with the trans obsession on GN.

Exactly! If a 12 year old goes to A & E for a wrist Xray, I wouldn't expect the staff to ask the patient to remove below the waist clothing.
Having read so much on the Trans issue here I began to wonder if here in France it was also being discussed and I
was just missing it so I asked my daughter what she thought.
The reply was no she hadn't read anything on the subject
and a disbelief that a 'load of old grannies' in England would
be so obsessed.
Bear in mind that a,load of old grannies are quite likely to be the vulnerable people mentioned.
It seems crazy not to care.
It's April 1st everyday!

Old grannies! Charming!
What age should they start and stop asking about possible pregnancies? It’s impossible to personalise every form, so they have to ask everyone the same questions. Just say no and move onto the next question, don’t take offence.

Well its not just grannies, but I agree with her point.
BUT - it is my experience that its older women - and men - seem to obsess more than younger women in general, from general experiences politically and engaging with women of different ages on the subject, talking to DS/DiL who is are uni lecturers and aware of the debate - the "furore" is NOT coming from the younger women students.
Frankly, I believe some people feel threatened by anything less than traditional gender roles and it puzzles me as a 71 year old. The same old stories are trotted out.
I have no sympathy whatsoever with extreme parading and aggression from those trans people who wish to hurt and disturb but they are a minority.
I am glad our society is getting more inclusive of gender fluidity. I wish to protect the young where that is needful by adequate resources - not by attacking a minority group as a whole.
and I shall add a personal truth to this.
I am a Safeguarded Adult from my to be Ex DH for Domestic Abuse. I have NO reason to be sympathetic to those who oppress women but I am fed up of transphobia.
