Scarf in Suffragette colours not allowed in Scottish Parliament.

During stage 2 hearings of the GRR Bill in the Scottish Parliament, women are being asked to either remove scarves knitted in Suffragette colours of green, purple and white or leave. At least one woman has chosen to leave. And yet quite a few of the MSPs are wearing Rainbow lanyards.

No, I re read my comment afterwards and thought

"FGS Violetsky look what you just typed, you are not your mother"

Then I thought

"Wait, maybe it will be seen as genuine since it was"

Then I thought

"It's doodledog, she is not going to waste that opportunity, she is going to indirectly call me a narcissist and won't ever think that someone who was abused for most of their life by a narcissist may screw up sentence structure while still recovering."

Now I am thinking

"She's going to hate the way I have typed this out because the way I type, despite not being neurotypical and typing the way I talk"

Wow, that is really, really personal.

I was just catching up on my break when I came across a comment comparing a daft idiot guard, banning a scarf to the mass slaughter happening to women in Iran

And I just can't

I could cry

What the heck is this?

Can't read past that

I'm done

Gosh, you are so fortunate VS
I barely had time to go the loo on my break when I was a TA.
I’m not being facetious here, it was honestly the case. During my ‘breaks’ I had to shadow children, so I’d nip to the loo during teaching time.

doodledog

I absolutely knew what your reply to me would be

Very boring

I don't agree with your comment

I don't agree with your replies to me afterwards containing personal insults

I am sorry I stooped to that level and for causing any hurt

I'm always honest

Can you please start writing in sentences? These one-line phrases are so difficult to follow.

Are you saying that my reply to you was very boring, but you knew what it would be? So you knew that you were gaslighting but did it anyway?

I have not personally insulted you - I accepted your acknowledgement that you'd been nasty. Would you rather I had assumed it was insincere?

VioletSky Wed 16-Nov-22 19:06:27

Lol!

Lathyrus Wed 16-Nov-22 19:01:55

Mmm.

I’m sorry that you are getting upset over some posts that you feel are personal insults.

VioletSky Wed 16-Nov-22 18:58:19

Meh

I'm just a wobbly TA with hilarious amounts of children and cats

No one but a feminist would care what I think about anything

Lathyrus Wed 16-Nov-22 18:56:19

VioletSky

Sure

I'm still waitinh for approximately 300 apologies for personal insults

But I'm sorry you are so upset doodledog

It's not very nice

I often leave these discussions due to nasty comments so I do understand

Do you mean you want 300 people to apologise to you. I think that’s over estimating your importance.

Or that you want the one poster who has said some mildly insulting things to apologise 300 times. Abject submission to your injured feelings?

300 apologies. A tad divalike some might think.

Oh, I haven't left - not my style.

I haven't contributed to the cleavage thread. I've been out all day celebrating my wedding anniversary.

'I am sorry you feel that way' coupled with a 'poor me' comment that blames your victim is such classic gaslighting that it's almost funny, VS. I know you're a fan of pop-psych, so here's an article about it. It's ok though - I'm not upset, and it's good to see that you acknowledge that it was a nasty remark. Remember that the next time you claim to be 'kind' and that you don't mean to hurt anyone?

No, Galaxy, I think it was Iam64 who asked for the feminism forum. It wasn't me, anyway.

Callistemon21 Wed 16-Nov-22 18:26:57

Galaxy

I think the 1950s comments were about the cleavage thread doodle.
Was it you who asked about the feminism section doodle?

That confused me somewhat.

Was it meant that cleavage and high heels were things which were disapproved of in the 1950s?

Or does it mean that, as bosoms and high heels were very much in evidence in the 1950s, women were objectified?

🤔

I think thats the thing VS. People arent you. We hold different views. So we arent going to respond in the way you do.
There is a complex discussion to be had about the pressure women may feel to wear certain items, in conjunction with womens choices about clothing. The cleavage thread isnt a place I would try to have that discussion.

Yes, Galaxy. You'd think that was obvious, wouldn't you?

It makes me want to go out and buy a scarf in those colours. They fought and died so I could have a vote.

Quite so. I may add a suffragette scarf to my enormous list of 'items to be knitted'.

VS that response to Doodledog is quite uncalled for. It's not only inaccurate, it's bloody insulting.

Thank you Rosie. You are right, but you won't be listened to. It's fine for VS to be downright rude, but then to claim the moral high ground when it suits her.

I am sick to death of having my words twisted and can't believe that it is always a case of misunderstanding, knee-jerk reactions or just people being a bit dim. It has to be deliberate at least sometimes.

I have no idea what 'jokes' I am being accused of making, or of what the 1950s (which I don't remember either) have to do with anything.

I see ho harm in the suffragette colours, whether worn as a tartan or as a signifier of female solidarity, any more than I can see any harm in a rainbow lanyard. If someone wore a swastika armband, or a jumper with a Russian flag knitted into it, I could understand they're being evicted as those things would clearly be political symbols. Female solidarity and a support for gay rights, however, have surely moved beyond that and into the mainstream?

maddyone Wed 16-Nov-22 18:11:42

Thank you Doodledog for the explanation. I think it’s disgraceful. Trying prevent women from wearing particular colours, in the UK! It’s almost unbelievable.

VioletSky Wed 16-Nov-22 18:06:22

You know, as feminists I would expect my right to speak my mind and come and go from any conversation I choose to be championed

But here we are

At least only take us back to the 60s, I was too young to remember it

Also

Don't create a toxic environment where insults are thrown at those you disagree with, some may bounce back on you

Especially in a chamber full of echos

I'm not sad we are different

No I don't want to accidentally fall into a wormhole back to the 1950s either

I'd be shouting ALL THE TIME

That wormhole.

Is that the one where men’s needs always came first?

Umm…………

You can bet that any spectators wearing rainbow colours or trans colours (pink, pale blue & white) would have had no comment made.
