He is, imo, a thoroughly decent person. He won’t destroy that money because because he knows it would be wrong to do so. But maybe it will make Beckham give some of his money to charity. Everyone who has bought a ticket for this event are complicit in the human rights abuses of this corrupt state. Wouldn't it have been great if very few tickets were sold? Urmstongran- the leaders of many of these countries achieve the unbelievable, making Henry the Eigth and other medieval monarchs look positively liberal.

I think they can get alcohol if they pay a few thousand pounds for a corporate area/box.

VioletSky we have to accept that we can’t fix everything. It’s not in our power to fix it. Look what happened in Iraq and Afghanistan when we interfered. But we don’t have to award these countries all the prestige of world class tournaments.

Oh Lucca thanks for confirmation of the 150 million. I heard that was the amount and then heard 10 million, so thought the lower figure must be right because quite frankly, 150 million is an obscene amount of money. David Beckham must be devoid of even an ounce of humility. How can he accept that amount of money from such a corrupt regime?

I don't like it no and I don't like a lot of countries being allowed into sporting events or being traded with.

But what worries me, is what would happen, should countries find themselves ostracised completely, to their people and would it be worse?

Can we influence them in a more positive direction with friendly terms?

The way women are treated in some parts of the world is horrific. Sanctions should be imposed where women are still fighting for rights but we can't have Sanctions without friendly terms.

that will be the powers that be who got their palms well and truly greased. There is absolutely no other explanation for moving it to a country with a climate totally unsuitable for the tournament even in their winter, and that's without the human rights aspects.

If Joe Lycett shreds £10,000 then he's just showing what a complete idiot he is. How can doing that help anyone? Only someone with more money than sense or compassion would even think of doing it. Talk about out of touch with the hardships so many are facing.....and incidentally Joe it's not illegal to destroy banknotes so no you won't be committing a crime.
