How often do you see or hear about what your MP does in your area , I appreciate some are very vocal in parliament but do you feel they work for the people that they serve.
Someone commented recently on Jeremy Vine that the only time they see their MP, ( a former PM) is when he shows her picture on the show.
I must say ours is often seen both locally and in Parliament speaking out on issues that concern both local and national, but he also attends and takes part in local events, he is very good and I feel a possible candidate for a prominent position in government if his party get re-elected in the next election.

Ours is Kwasi Kwarteng. 😩
As invisible here as he seems to be in Parliament.

Our Red Wall tory MP (majority 2,000+) gets himself on the front page of the local papers at every opportunity. He's busied himself with getting money poured into a defunct railway line near to us which was attempted to be re-opened by volunteers some 10 - 15 years ago. They had a regular train service running and tried running 'specials' but it never really succeeded. I feel that this attempt is just pouring money down an open drain to impress the locals.

I haven't noticed any improvement to people's lives as a result...

I trust he'll be gone after the next GE.

Nope never seen sight or sound of our tory mp since his arrival, his office is always closed !

Casdon Wed 23-Nov-22 14:59:19

No, mine is a chocolate teapot. She lives in Cardiff, and only ventures out to the sticks of her rural constituency for TV opportunities. We’ve been used to Lib Dem MPs who lived here, were at local events and had their finger on the pulse until the last election when Ms Tory got elected.

Mine is see frequently in the local Town, she a popular famale Tory MP.
Few miles south, the local MP for that area is a very prominent female Tory MP often see in Tesco's in the local High Street, chatting to everyone.

Ours IS Matt Hancock so could see him every night!. Seen him once to unveil the village sign but he wasn’t chatting or available to speak to. I doubt he will stand again.

Mine is Caroline Lucas, she is very accessible, lives here and is often at local events... she's helpful and friendly..

Barmeyoldbat Wed 23-Nov-22 15:21:26

Ours lives locally, but we don’t see much of him but he is suppose to be active in getting our railway line, helped some people with cladding and did something with special education. Think that’s it but I will never vote for him he is Liam Fox

Our Tory MP is front and centre when it makes him look good. At present he's extolling the virtues of constituency boundary changes. He's losing a labour voting area and gaining a Tory one!!!!!

Maybe you don't mix in the right circles wink

My MP is the invisible man. I’ve never seen him on the local news or in the local papers. He is the only MP who cannot be contacted by email.

FindingNemo15 Wed 23-Nov-22 16:43:48

A while ago I wrote to our MP re a medical problem regarding my DH's operation that had been cancelled asking to be put in the right direction. Three months later he replied and his opening line was " I hope your DH is recovering from his recent surgery".

Enough said!

Oldbat1 Wed 23-Nov-22 16:48:09

Never see our MP unless tv cameras or photographers are around. She is spoilt for choice re her own houses having one in London one here and one somewhere else!

GrannySomerset Wed 23-Nov-22 16:51:09

Our MP is JRM whose constituency office is extremely well run and ensures he is active on constituents’ behalf. Can’t say I agree with him much but he is regarded as a good MP locally.

Luckygirl3 Wed 23-Nov-22 17:08:45

I do - he was closely involved in setting up a local technology university in the city, and he is involved in much that goes on here, including the music scene and support for the arts.

What a shame he is a Tory, and his voting record makes my heart sink.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 23-Nov-22 17:10:23

All the time. Peter Kylie - Labour - is extremely pro-active and a very effective MP.

Vintagenonna Wed 23-Nov-22 17:20:20

I don't share the political beliefs of my MP but he is very active, very much in the community and has responded to my occasional email.

The political organisation I currently belong to and its leadership team send me knicker-wetting pleas for funds but don't respond to email at all.

I think there is a lesson here . . .

henetha Wed 23-Nov-22 17:28:51

Ours attends local events so I've seen him several times.

NanaAng14 Wed 23-Nov-22 17:45:44

My MP could go into the jungle for 3 months, never mind 3 weeks - never see him or hear from him , only fleeting glimpses , when a picture of the cabinet is shown on tv , with all MP's sitting round a large table .

vegansrock Wed 23-Nov-22 18:00:54

I see ours a lot as she often drops her kids off at her mum’s who lives in my street.

lemsip Wed 23-Nov-22 20:06:53

yes mine is.. has a regular 'surgery' in local office. I don't think people use their mp enough.

Grandmadinosaur Wed 23-Nov-22 20:15:31

Yes ours is often seen out about in the local square supporting various causes and regularly heard on local radio. She lives locally. She is known to support local businesses including my DHs previous one. Saying that she isn’t a patch on the previous one - Alan Johnson.

Our Labour MP is great at keeping everyone up to date about what he is doing and at mingling locally. Really hope he is re-elected.

At my old house our MP was Kelvin Hopkins, another hard-working and active MP. He travelled to London on the train each day. Once, when he was in his late 60's/early 70's he fell in the station car park and broke his leg. Got a plaster on it and carried on commuting regardless!
His daughter is now MP for a neighbouring constituency and puts in the spade work too.

SuzieHi Wed 23-Nov-22 21:06:59

Yes. Ours is Jeremy Hunt. He works very hard & gets involved in many local issues.

Redrobin51 Wed 23-Nov-22 21:09:20

Our last MP was absolutely brilliant, born in the constituency and did so much for this area and individuals. He was also very vocal on our behalf in The Commons even people not of his political persuasion thought he was marvellous. The new one does seem to try and promote local small businesses and attend local events but so far isn't so vocal on our behalf.
