Isn't that lovely, he'd have been so proud and rightly so.

A difficult day indeed, but those boys - wow! A lovely tribute.

Aveline Mon 19-Dec-22 16:33:57

A difficult day for those boys (and their mum). A very sad loss.

AGAA4 Mon 19-Dec-22 16:31:03

One of his boys looks so much like him. Sorry to lose Doddie.

Shinamae

I’m afraid I’ve never heard of him but reading that link has made me cry…

I’ e never heard of him either.
A horrible disease and too young an age to die, very sad.
He sounded to have been a good sportsman and all round good guy.

It's so sad about Doddie. Thoughts go also to all those who have posted here whose lives have been blighted by MND. 💖

RIP Doddie Weir. A big man with a big personality who is sadly missed.

I cried when I heard the news - it's same wretched illness which took my DH away.

RIP Doddie. I pray to God that we find a cure in my lifetime.

Very sad and far too young. MN is a terrible disease.

for those who have never heard of him he was a true hero never letting his condition stop him attending anything that would help find a cure for MND .Doddie Weir, one of the best known names in Scottish rugby, has died.
A towering figure on the field, Doddie earned himself 61 caps for Scotland throughout the 1990s and was selected for the British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa in 1997.
In late 2016, he was given the life-changing news that he had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Determined not to give in to MND, he spearheaded efforts to find a cure for the debilitating disease. His charity, the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, has raised millions for research since it was launched in 2017.

Horrible disease

Grannynannywanny Sat 26-Nov-22 20:16:44

I saw Doddie on tv 2 weeks ago when he came on to the pitch with his wife and children to present the ball at the Scotland-New Zealand match. He was looking much frailer. Such a lovely man. This will be a blow to his friend and fellow rugby player Rob Burrows. Rob’s MND appeared much more advanced than Doddie’s in their very moving documentary. Doddie was a great support to Rob.

There's a lovely obituary of Doddie on the BBC website. It refers to him as 'six feet seven of glorious chaos'! I'd love to post the link but don't know how to. It's really good and well worth checking out.
Scotland is a small world and he touched so many people. I'd see him collecting at school. His brother was in DS's class at school and his sister taught DD. They must be so sad tonight as will his wife and three sons. A light has gone out.
