Meghan Markle Faced 'Disgusting and Very Real' Threats in the U.K., Former Counterterrorism Head Says

So possibly NOT figments of fevered imaginations.

In a new interview with Channel 4 News, the former head of counterterrorism for the Metropolitan Police said that there were genuine threats to the Duchess of Sussex's life while she lived in the U.K.

Neil Basu opened up about the alarming allegations amid his resignation as Assistant Commissioner for Specialist Operations for the Met Police in an interview released Tuesday. Basu, 54, is leaving the force after 30 years, during which he earned the Queen's Police Medal for distinguished service and served as the senior-most officer for the counterterrorism unit of the Met Police starting in March 2018 — two months before Meghan and Prince Harry's royal wedding.

"You were in charge of royal protection. How would you characterize the threats that Meghan and Harry received?" journalist Cathy Newman asked in a quick clip shared on Twitter.

"Well, disgusting and very real," Basu replied, calling extreme right-wing terrorism the "fast-growing threat" to the country.

Belatedly Welcome new poster Fleur. Sorry you got both barrels straight away ..that was rather unkind. However anyone can contribute as they wish so please persevere !

What was the big threat about? Do you feel it's because she's black? As far as that goes, she does not even appear black. I cannot believe that there's that much animosity toward her because of race, so is it just because she's an American?

tickingbird Fri 02-Dec-22 17:08:36

No, it wasn't!!! I didn't make a mistake at all. I wasn't referring to volver's post. The revolting bit was the comment on volver's post.

So growstuff you don’t find making fun of another poster revolting?

For some reason me agreeing with volver’s assessment of her own behaviour is revolting.

It’s a good job I’m of a different mindset to Volver otherwise I’d be making fun of you!!

Applegran Fri 02-Dec-22 17:05:33

If someone threatened your life, it would not make is less terrifying to know that others too had been threatened.

I wonder if Lady Hussey has checked out Camilla's husband's heritage.

growstuff Fri 02-Dec-22 16:43:11

Personally, I reckon Bill Gates is behind it all. I expect last time Lady Hussey had a Covid booster, she had a chip implanted. Meghan has somehow influenced Gates and persuaded him to "control" Lady Hussey by programming her to come out with offensive questioning. hmm

I spotted this thread last night but decided not to comment until I saw which way it went.

A senior security person says that Meghan and Harry were subject to real and credible threats to their lives. And some people think an appropriate response is that they should stop complaining about it.

It's incredible, in a way. In another, the response is entirely expected.

I agree, and now it seems she was right about racism in the royal club after all!

volver Fri 02-Dec-22 16:38:36

Och, I really am just laughing now, but thank you growstuff.

We've had the opinion that it was all planned in advance, that she was wearing a wire, the idea that Fuladi was an activist out to get Camilla but who had to settle for a lesser target, and praise for Farage. Maybe not all on this thread, sorry if I bring in different threads, it's not intentional.

Personal attacks are just grist for the mill. And now some poster none of us have ever spoken to before is the target. Hope Fleur sticks with us, we need all the sensible people we can get. I think we are in the presence of real racism and hatred and I don't have an answer to that.

Well, I did notice this. Nigel Farage. National Front. Ngozi Fuladi. NF! Coincidence? I don't think so 🤪 It's all a plot!!! They're trying to tell us something!!

You’ll find that a lot of posters don’t take much notice of people who announce they are leaving.
Why the need to tell us. Was if for the flowers ?

It’s an easy claim isn’t it MerylStreep
In any case his ethnic origins didn’t hold him back, he had a very good job.

He also claims the reason he didn’t get the top honchos job in the NCA was because of his ethnic origins.

It’s encouraging that you’re showing signs of self awareness but I remain unconvinced. grin

I have read this thread with great interest. It is another left versus right kind of thread. You can guess where I stand on Harry and Meghan. They decided to live in America in order to live private lives. It is no exaggeration to say they have conducted their lives very publicly and we all know they need to make money to live their lifestyle in a very expensive mansion in a wealthy area.

The Oprah interview was given loads of publicity. I became a bit worried when Meghan told the story of their “secret marriage” in the garden with just the happy couple and the Archbishop of Canterbury officiating. Any communicant member of the C of E would know that was not the truth. Witnesses are required and the ArchBishop made that clear later.

Harry is no match for Meghan. She had her cap set to marry someone of importance and we can only admire her efforts. This couple who moved to America to lead private lives are public property due to Meghan’s efforts. She has said she has political aims as a Democrat politician.

Her podcasts were really more about herself than her guests.

Now there is the Netflix Documentary. Plus Harry’s book “Thd Spare” I know about the book because Audible are already offering it for £7.99 when it comes out.

Re Lady Hussey, she certainly did persist too much and some old people may be apt to do. However, Marlene Headley was born in UK of parents who arrived in London from Barbados during the Windrush times. I confess to being quite surprised that this lady did not mention she was of Barbadian ancestry as in the Caribbean Barbadians are well known as being rather superior to other island people. Ms Ngozi Fulani ( I read she is married so that is her married name) is bright and she should have said that her family was from Barbados and that she was born in London. But her dress suggested she was from Africa and poor Lady Hussey should have realised not to press the enquiry, but she did not. Ms Fulani recorded the conversation and used it to her advantage as many journalists have given her all the publicity she wants. Quite smart really. If you can be bothered to Google “Sistahs in Space Charity Commission”you can read the paperwork of the Charity. Now I will be called a “racist right wing” person by some of this group’s members but I am so old I don’t care or worry about such epithets. There are only a small group of contributors who are labelled right wing for daring to disagree with member who are leftish in their political views. But there is room for all of us.

Brill post Annie1 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You know you’ve done well when a poster mocks a typo or a punctuation mistake😄it’s all they’ve got in the way of reply.
Take it as a compliment.wink

Nanatoone Fri 02-Dec-22 16:10:27

I’ve followed this thread with some alarm. I can’t stand MM and HW but wish them no harm. I do wish they’d pipe down though. Why attract this kind of attention and then complain about it? I think anyone in the public eye is at risk but most don’t have the kind of security these people have. I wish I could be sympathetic but that ship sailed with the way they bleated about her MH and blamed HR for not getting her help. Get it yourself like we all have to do (or not as the case may be). I despise privileged people trying to make out that their sorrows are so much worse than the person in the street. Different maybe. Having experienced a horrible few days trying to get health support for my sick daughter I am
Not in the frame of mind to care much about the rich and famous (so there!).

No he doesn't.

Why would you say that when it's not true?

It's called living in a post-truth era. Maybe it was on Twitter and the theory is that if it's repeated enough by all the bots on there, some mug will believe it.

You mean like the She was wearing a wire "inaccuracy"? wink
