BBC News - Buckingham Palace aide resigns over remarks to black charity boss
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-63810468

Well at least the Palace took this incident seriously and didn't fob off Ms Fulani's complaint.

Madgran77 Fri 02-Dec-22 11:05:51

As previously stated, I'm not saying it was right in the light of current day

Ere ...it would NEVER have been right, current day or in past days!!!!

Madgran77 Fri 02-Dec-22 11:13:05

all she was trying to discover was whether the charity girl’s family was from Africa or the Caribbean

The "charity girl" is a 61 year old grandmother!! Who has founded a charity and is its CEO!! She speaks well when you listen to her, by which I mean she expresses herself with clarity and calm. Whether one agrees with her views or not, she is clearly someone with intelligence and initiative and she certainly does not deserve to be dismissed so patronisingly (not that anyone does really!!)

Adam Rutherford has done a brilliant parody on Twitter of an imagined conversation between Lady SH and the Duke of Edinburgh. Sorry can’t link.

Cassuis Clay changed his name because he changed his religion, "Muhammad Ali' means "beloved of god". Some people born and bred in the Uk chose to do the same. This is not cultural appropriation - the man changed his religion.

And apparently Ms Fulani is a Rastafarian.

Freddie Mercury was a Zoroastrian and changed his name from Farrokh Bulsara.

Do we not approve of that either?

What is this obsession with what she is called?

Some snide remarks about changing one's name.

What about the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha's? That's some re-invention!

If someone repeatedly asks anyone the same question, regardless of what it is, it's rude.

Are you hungry? X 6. Rude.
What time are you leaving? X 5. Rude.

The woman in question knew the conversation had gone badly. She admitted it herself. I'm just amazed that with all of her experience in this role, that she didn't read the situation better. Unless it's her general go-to style of questioning, which has just never resulted in a complaint before. In which case, she had a very good innings and is just unlucky that the world is changing and will no longer tolerate her style of privilege and arrogance.

I don't care who you are or what your background is. If invited to someone's home or a business reception, politeness says you make an effort to make the small talk work.

SH was out of her depth in the politicised space. Why would she want to risk a repeat of that? Her resignation was the right thing for her and the Royal Family.

Ms Fulani, should be, considering her job, perfectly capable of making the conversation work. She appears to be an eloquent, sassy, grown woman running a charity. She is presumably, dealing with people who ask awkward questions and don't always put things the "right" way on a day-to-day basis.

If she cannot find a way to answer that puts the thing to bed, then where is her resignation? If she cannot manage a Buck House Reception, then how can she manage to run her charity? This is nothing to do with colour or ethnicity. Where is her competence for a job that is entirely people orientated?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 02-Dec-22 12:22:47

I find myself agreeing with you again DaisyAnne

Anniebach Fri 02-Dec-22 12:35:05

Agree DaisyAnne

Just listened to Nigel Farage report from GB News on U-Tube and I find myself agreeing with him. This was a set up. Fulani herself is racist in that her charity is for black victims of domestic violence. If you are white don’t apply. Her charity is funded by BLM. She is anti Royal. Her charity wasn’t even invited. She piggy backed in on another charity. Then she appears in African dress, with an African name, and a recorder tucked up her sleeve. She knew what Susan Hussey was really asking but gave short answers leading her on.

I then read through the comments on U-Tube. One black man said of Fulani “How dare this woman further provoke racial intolerance.” So many replies identified themselves as black agreeing it was planned. One black man can be seen clapping Nigel at the end of the clip. Poor Lady Susan.

Nigel Farage.

Yes, I'm sure he's right.

Never been wrong about anything. Never made anything up. Very unbiased in all his opinions. (sarcasm emoji)

If you're using Farage as a source, you're not on the side of right. Ever.

MayBee70 Fri 02-Dec-22 12:54:08

Is it definite that she had a recorder with her?

volver Fri 02-Dec-22 12:56:58

No Maybee70, of course not.

Made up slur by people trying to smear Fulani and excuse racism.

Riverwalk Fri 02-Dec-22 13:04:09

Has Fulani admitted to having a wire? It was a short conversation, with questions she's no doubt heard many times before, so not hard to recall without use of electronic device.

There were two witnesses too.

Mollygo Fri 02-Dec-22 13:08:56

I think the recorder rumour started because of the “perfect” recall of the conversation.
Do you have “perfect” recall of all the conversations you have had in a big group meeting? I might recall things that I enjoyed and things that irritated me, but not word for word.

Dream on. Everything that has been said is true about this individual. She is a BLM activist. She accused Charles and Camilla in a tweet of abuse against Markle. She said Markle should be on the balcony at the jubilee. Now she claims she never said it…. Her mate is Markles pet photographer. He also chimed in yesterday. Lady Susan was recently quoted in the Telegraph as saying Markles marriage wouldn’t last. Join the dots and open your eyes. Just nice and convenient to derail William and Kate’s tour as they did when they visited the Caribbean previously.
Go for it Nigel Farage and others. Expose her and her agenda and links to Markle. A despicable set up job on an elderly lady.

Old posh woman, who is clearly out of touch and used to deferential treatment asks inappropriate questions, Black British woman who is at the function representing an organisation that supports "women of African and Caribbean heritage" (off the official Sista Space website) has, IMV, a massive and very public over-reaction. Honestly, does she really think the conversation was abusive and violent? This is someone who supports women who have suffered DV! I think the RF need to understand that the old court system of having suitable "friends" around to share the load needs to change. They need to surround themselves with a good PR agency that understands British culture and prevents them making theses sort of errors by supplying trained people that are representative of our population to help at theses events.

Possibly the most sensible comment on this thread.

Wow! Just wow!

How on earth can there be a balanced discussion with blinkered and entrenched views such as this?

I'm not sure I would go as far as some of your remarks, but she has, by using this as a weapon, opened herself up to such comments.
