Anybody would have helped the man, being a nurse is irrelevant.

No one is disputing that fact.
Not too sure about the irrelevancy of a being a nurse on the scene, being medically trained, a nurse may pick up on something a lay person wouldn’t.

I hope the nurses here never go on strike. More teachers here from time to time, can’t remember the nurses ever going out.

Lots of ours emigrate to Australia because the pay is better over there.

I do know one or two who came here from Australia so it's not entirely a one-way exodus.

I should hope so! They shouldn't be on strike anyway.

It's the only avenue left to them to try to claw back better pay and conditions from a government that is bleeding the country dry.

Spend a month on the wards Claudiaclaws which, as a nurse, I did for years then tell me nurses don’t deserve a pay rise. Governments have ignored the plight of nurses for years thinking they had us in a corner, so sure of the fact we would never strike when all around were striking for a higher pay.
I am backing this first strike 100%

This is a non story. A trained nurse will always go to the aid of someone taken ill, it’s instinctive.

I see this as a non story.
Anyone would have helped him, and of course some nurses rushed to help him.

Another round of support for whitewave’s post.
And we know nothing about the time it took staff to come out. We do know hospitals are under staffed all the time and that will be worse with the strike action.
I fully support the nurses. They’ve been driven into this strike action.

Absolutely!

They have been driven to their first strike ever, by a corrupt inept government that is hoping that the voter can be turned against the nurses and side with the government.

The nurses should not be on strike, of course not, but in talks with the government over their pay.

Talks which the government is refusing to have.

It is a disgrace.

Why should they not be on strike Claudiaclaws?

It took inside staff ten mins to come out??

GagaJo Thu 15-Dec-22 21:36:18

No, of course not. But nice to acknowledge it.

sodapop Thu 15-Dec-22 21:13:36

Did anyone seriously think they would do otherwise.

Nurses striking in Bristol left their picket line on Thursday to help an injured man who collapsed just outside a hospital.

The striking staff raced to assist the man who became ill just outside Bristol Royal Infirmary's (BRI) main entrance o Thursday morning.

Nurses left the picket line and went to help the man by providing emergency first aid.

The patient was put into the recovery position and was visibly shaking on the ground outside – as temperatures dropped as low as -8C.

Within 10 minutes, staff working at BRI came out to collect the patient, putting him on a spinal board and lifting him onto a stretcher.

The striking nurses returned to the picket line shortly afterwards.
