My problem.is who gets to define hate speech. That makes me quite anxious.
I dont think Carr was using hate speech either, and in terms of his references to women Boyle couldnt have been, as misogyny isnt included in hate crime legislation. He probably could have fallen foul of it in terms of those with disabilities.

Unsurprisingly I would defend the right of all three of them to say what they did, even though I don't like two of them and have no views on the other. The alternative of deciding what speech is ok and what isnt (and who decides that) is much worse, and certainly worse for minority groups and those who experience prejudice.

I would certainly never defend hate speech, which his what I thought Clarkson's article was.

But I do not believe that either Margolyes or Carr were indulging in hate speech because their comments are often quoted entirely out of context, and twisted to make them sound like something they are not.

That's not what I said, not what I said at all What is the point of someone accusing you of saying something you never said? To pick a fight and make the other person look like a nasty specimen?

I am not defending Clarkson in any way, shape or form.

People certainly didn't understand the Jimmy Carr thing.

Listen to one sentence from a routine lasting a few minutes and condemn him for it, even though its been completely taken out of context. And he wasn't making jokes about the holocaust. He was criticising racists. Maybe too subtly for some.

I like Boyle, but he sometimes does go too far.

This country would be far better place if people didnt use debates on misogyny and racism to exert power over others.

Anything to get a cheap laugh, as in Jo Brand wishing she had battery fluid to pour over Farage, and Miriam Margolyes wanting Boris to die, and Jimmy Carr joking about the extermination of gypsies in the holocaust.
Ne need to listen to any of them, including Clarkson , and Meghan Markle as well. Decreasing viewing figures are far more telling than pious complaints.

We all have to pay a licence fee so we should complain.

However, the arrogant BBC dismisses complaints about his shows so objecting is futile.

Cant speak for here but there was certainly plenty of condemnation of FB on MN. He too is a misogynist.

Not defending Clarkson whatsoever but I see that Frankie Boyle the ' comedian' has his show on BBC 2 this Christmas .New World Order.This comes after he refused to apologise for including in his stand in routine this summer at the Latitude festival that he would like to kill and rape Holly Willoughby. Well rape First obviously -were his words.I must have missed that.Where was the national outrage- and he gets a show on the BBC summing up 2022.Will he reference Meghan Markle and her treatment in the media I wonder?

His past behaviour has shown he is a very nasty person (even resorting to violence when he doesn't get his own way), so why is anyone surprised he writes a misogynistic article - what surprises me is that the female editor of the rag that published it allowed it through!

I am not a fan of Megan and Harry and I didn’t watch their documentary I chose not too. But what Jeremy Clarkson said was utterly disgraceful. I’m sure she doesn’t deserve such vitriolic hate.

The complaints to IPSO are now up to 17,000 which is apparently is more than they received in total last year.

It's been discussed on LBC and J Vine and all the people who are against Clarkson complained about the remarks concerning MM.

All very well The Sun being urged to take "definitive" action against Clarkson, but they chose to print the article, so who is going to take action against them?

Or will they claim freedom of speech, and that the views are Clarkson's own, and do not reflect those of the publication.

Apologies WellsRose I misread it as something quite rude.

Looking at the link to the article it appears to be about his contempt for Nicola Sturgeon and adds comments about MM at the end. However most of the responses are against him for his views on NS not MM.
It's an appalling article even tho I don't care for either mentioned, JC should be held accountable for his words.
