World-famous entertainers will perform at Windsor Castle as part of a weekend of celebrations to mark the King's coronation, it has been announced.
The concert will be broadcast on the BBC on 7 May featuring "global music icons", orchestras and a diverse "coronation choir".

Which 'global icons' would you expect to see on stage?

Like I said on the other thread...anybody got a sick bag? 🤢

I'm one of the "people" and I don't want him.

We know, you started a thread.
You clearly just want an argument.

Yes I did. I started a new thread because I didn't want to take over the thread where the royalists were enjoying themselves. But if you make the effort to sling some mud at me on a thread I had decided to stay away from, then all bets are off.

What input/influence do you think King Charles actually has?
So many of these concerts have become, IMO, cringefests by trying to be all things to all people - and ending up pleasing no-one.

I quite agree.
As I’ve said on another thread, it seems that Charles believes that he is entitled to the respect and good will that his mother had earned.

I’m annoyed (to put it lightly) that his tin ear will hasten the end of the monarchy.

Centuries of history could be squandered due to his arrogance.
This was the perfect opportunity for evolution.
But instead they are thumbing their noses to the lot of us.
This is only going to prove that they need to go
😡

I'm with you on this one Fanny.
The people can have street parties, will they who is going to pay for them in this Economic downturn?
The people on the Bank holiday Monday he has so kindly given could go and volunteer somewhere, maybe the food banks that so many need desperately.
His actions are turning the moderates amongst us Republicans.

Like many thousands of others, I am looking forward to the whole Coronation weekend. I hope the Rolling Stones will feature in the concert, also Sam Ryder. As we will be celebrating our Commonwealth and British heritage, I would love to see some British folk music featured.
I will be on the Mall. I have my coach ticket from Cornwall and expect to be in a big crowd, watching the magnificent parade.

But that's not what everyone wants biglouis. There will be those and I'm one of them, wanting to see tradition maintained all be it in a slimmed down way.

If King Charles was really "the people's king" and wanted to be in tune with modern sensibilities he would scrap the coronation with all its mystical mumbo jumbo and have a much cheaper Scandi style declaration in front of parliament. The millions saves could be devoted to helping the vulnerable with the COL crisis.

Well said!

lemsip Sun 22-Jan-23 17:31:32

charles is hoping it passes off with no boos!

I’d like to see a classical concert. Too much to hope, I know, but I suspect Charles would prefer it, too. Seems a shame to dumb down for the sake of easy popularity.

Galaxy Sun 22-Jan-23 17:01:55

Oh poor chas. Of Chas and Dave. Not prince charles

Oreo Sun 22-Jan-23 16:30:33

I’d like to see a lot of British talent on show, both old and new.
It should be a good weekend, I’ll watch on tv as not keen on crowds.

I'd put together a Commonwealth choir with a resprentative from each country.
For solo artists, Kylie 🇦🇺, Justin Bieber or Celine Dion 🇨🇦, Hayley Westenra 🇳🇿 (thought of Kiri Te Kanawa, but maybe not!) Grace 🇯🇲, Rhianna 🇧🇧, or have they left now? I can't keep up.
I'm sure London will put on a great show at the castle, even though Windsor is in Berks.

JaneJudge Sun 22-Jan-23 14:26:23

galaxy, Chas has died so it would just be Dave

Pittcity Sun 22-Jan-23 14:24:52

I expect it'll include Sam Ryder. He seems to be the go to at present and was excellent on New Year's Eve.

Galaxy Sun 22-Jan-23 14:24:39

Chas and Dave.

Oldbat1 Sun 22-Jan-23 14:23:39

Rolling Stones would be great.

FannyCornforth Sun 22-Jan-23 14:21:01

I think that they had a bit of a thing.
I’ve read Sheila say that the rumours surrounding her ruined her career (ie seen as a bit naff by association)

JaneJudge Sun 22-Jan-23 14:19:16

ELO

Grannynannywanny Sun 22-Jan-23 14:16:44

Sheila Ferguson of the Three Degrees has been repeatedly referred to as Prince Charles’s favourite singer since she sang at his 30th birthday. Having said that I think it’s usually her that says it 😆 I’ve seen it mentioned many times over the years in interviews and magazine articles.

I hope they have a throat singer.

They could hardly keep straight faces when they heard one.

Petera Sun 22-Jan-23 13:46:42

I stand to be corrected but I believe that most other 'modern' monarchies don't even have coronations. Royalist or republican aside, why do we need it?

Smileless2012 Sun 22-Jan-23 13:41:34

I'm rather looking forward to it. If the late Queen's Jubilee celebrations are anything to go by, it should be goodsmile.
