Sometimes I am ashamed

Fully expecting to be shot down in flames, I never thought I would see the like and am nevertheless ashamed of the country of my birth.

Todays DT, but also Twitter, BBC News and others
POLICE have launched an investigation after placards calling for women to be decapitated were displayed at a pro-transgender rights rally attended by SNP politicians
MPs Alison Thewliss, Kirsten Oswald, Stewart McDonald and MSP Kaukab Stewart were pictured in front of a sign that said “decapitate terfs” next to an image of a guillotine at a protest in Glasgow on Saturday.
Another homemade sign appeared to call for terfs, an acronym for “trans exclusionary radical feminist” which is often used to describe women who do not believe males can become female, to be eaten.

I do not recognise “my” homeland Scotland sad

Suddenly claiming to be a woman when you're an intact male found guilty of 2 rapes, in order to be sent to a women's prison is everything to do with self ID, is it not?

NO.

How often does this need to be said?

She's done that already. It wouldn't make a blind bit of difference if Self ID was already here, because she has done what she's done without Self ID. She didn't need Self ID to be a rapist, or claim to be a woman or be sent to a woman's prison. If Self ID comes in it won't make any difference to how she is treated.

I'm starting to wonder what you are talking about, though...
Don’t worry about it VD. I’ve noticed some things will always be beyond your comprehension.

volver Wed 25-Jan-23 11:21:06

Aha. So now we know.

Not only are you ashamed of your own country, you think the people in it make bad decisions because you don't like that person leading the party they vote for. Not sure if its their style or their politics you don't like, no matter.

Showing your true colours Maw.

Aye - the leader of the party that nearly 50% voted for?
What a country this is, giving people what they want

And you ask me why I am ashamed of it?
Should be obvious.

So on a thread mainly about Self ID, Maw introduced a cutting about a rapist in order to make a point and yet you think I'm the one who doesn't care about what this person did, and I just want to make point?

Aye, right.

Have you got your facts right?
And if males can do that without self ID you would justify the introduction of self ID because . . .

Because Self ID has got nothing to do with whether someone is a rapist or not.

🤷🏼

I'm starting to wonder what you are talking about, though...

And you do have Nicola Sturgeon - says it all.

Proportional representation. The committee system. The Independent Fiscal Commission.

But no, we don't have a second house based on the patronage of old PMs full of people who mainly go there to sleep, claim expenses and do what they're told.

Well, we do need an elected Upper House.

However, sometimes they wake up and stop something just wrong going through.

Interesting point, Urmstongran

Which are the checks and balances on the Scottish Parliament?
apart from pesky Westminster interfering?

volver Wed 25-Jan-23 10:55:51

How the Scottish Parliament voted on the GRR bill:

Who supported it:
9% of the Conservatives
90% of Labour
100% of Lib Dems
86% of SNP
100% of Greens

Sturgeon's Laws?

Urmstongran Wed 25-Jan-23 10:49:25

Scotland does not have a ‘second house’ which could press pause and reflect. Full steam ahead then for Sturgeon’s laws?

Agree *volver.

He’s playing the system and making a mockery of self ID. Showing just how easy it would be to abuse.

I'm sorry, I don't think we agree at all Granniesunite.

She did all these things without the existence of SelfID and I'd rather be worried about the rapists we have today than worry that in the future they might self ID. She's done everything that we're meant to be scared of, and SelfID doesn't exist.

Let's just worry about rapists, whoever they are.

Amazing that she managed to do that without self-ID and they have managed to keep her in a segregated part of the prison.

Its almost like self ID wouldn't have made any difference at all.

Does that make it OK? You’re so busy defending wee Nic that you don’t seem to care that he raped women?

hmm full makeup to give the impression that he is a she, and no attempt to cover up his male appendage; a woman with a penis!!!

I'm neither proud nor ashamed of my country, which I see as being the UK. I agree that it is made up of individuals, some of whom I admire and some quite the reverse.

In the same way as I get irritated when people start going on about 'some regions' voting for Brexit, when the referendum wasn't set up like that, I don't understand Nationalism in any of its forms. I see nations as the result of the fact that hundreds of years ago one gang beat another in a bloody fight, and boundaries were drawn. Islands like the UK are based on a slightly different premise, but the principle is sort of the same.
I'm pleased I live here and not Ukraine or Saudi, but I'm not proud of the way this country is being run just now. A lot of things that have happened in my lifetime have not been done with my consent or approval, but to some extent they were done in my name, and I'm not happy about that.

Anyway. I'm still unsure (but uneasy) about just who is behind the current trans agenda. It seemed to spring from nowhere and if unchecked will radically alter the foundations of our society, yet people (Some People, anyway grin) are happy to make snap decisions based on 'kindness' or 'feelings' and allow these changes to happen. The 'rights' and 'wrongs' of that aside, does that seem remotely sensible? If you follow the money, it is Big Pharma who profits from this, and if you follow the chain of power it seems to me to have something to do with patriarchal fear of women 'getting above ourselves', but I'm still not sure whose driving it all.

I don't understand why you should be ashamed of your country because of the actions of a handful of people living in it?

Scottish people don't en masse go around waving placards demanding violent retribution on others, do they?

A lens louse waiting for an opportunity - found it - and now everyone's in uproar. How representative of Scotland do you think this individual is? These types exist everywhere, probably in every country.

Do what?
Rape two women then when things got sticky, decide he was really or wanted to be a woman ?
Given how he had treated the 2 women he had raped, it shows a very skewed identification with women.

Re your posts about ‘authentic selves’ I have a question about this item that was on the news tonight.
A transgender woman has been found guilty of raping two women in attacks carried out before she changed gender
Isla Bryson committed the crimes in Clydebank and Glasgow in 2016 and 2019 while known as Adam Graham
The High Court in Glasgow heard that the 31-year-old has now started the process of gender re-assignment
Can you explain ‘authentic self’? Which authentic self was Adam/Isla when he was raping the females ?
In your view, should this male person be placed in a female prison unit?
I was horrified but not surprised Mollygo I understand he is indeed to be sent to a women’s prison.
At the risk of being accused of being flippant, if he is a woman he really needs to find a different place to keep his tissues and lipstick .

Amazing that she managed to do that without self-ID and they have managed to keep her in a segregated part of the prison.

“My country right or wrong”?

No, not in the slightest.

Just an appreciation that the people I don't agree with aren't the whole country and that I wouldn't be ashamed of 2,000 years of history, and 5.4 million people just because I don't like the government and some people are bams.
