This, in the news is breaking my heart.
I hope she comes home safe soon - but every passing day is such a worry.

I feel so differently about this very sad affair today after this information has been disclosed.
Before, it was total bewilderment as to how someone just simply taking the dog for a walk could disappear and the family left in shock.
Today I feel that apart from the children they knew the possibilities that something happening was not totally shocking.
The police had been called to the house when concerns for her safety had been expressed.
It does put a whole new light on the situation.
I fear those children will never get their beloved mummy back.

Exactly GSM. Again, having a dig at the police who were rightly keeping this information confidential whether or not requested by the family. This was not information for him to disclose to the public.

The diver has said that the Police had not mentioned the alcohol when he conducted his search. He would have searched differently if he had known. So that's not good.

Am I right in remembering the private river was brought in by the family, not the police. It was up to Nicola’s husband to be open with him. If the police had told the diver about their welfare visit on 10.01.23 and knowledge of a drink problem, they’d have been criticised for breaching confidentiality.
it seems the police reached the point where it was felt necessary to give some background that could explain its early conclusions about this disappearance.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 16-Feb-23 08:16:18

The diver was brought in by the family so it was for the family to tell him about the alcohol problem, not the police who were quite rightly keeping the information confidential, probably at the family’s request. If this knowledge would have made a difference to his search, he should have asked the family if alcohol might be a factor, otherwise how would anyone know this might make a difference to how he worked?

The behaviour of the diving expert has made me quite uncomfortable throughout.

Yes. The diver told that to Jeremy Kyle I believe. I found it sad that he is going on such programmes talking about this.

I find it despicable and very unprofessional at a time when this poor families lives are in turmoil. He gets his 15 mins of fame at their expense!

Galaxy Thu 16-Feb-23 07:55:02

Yes hes lurking about on talk TV, slowly looking for rehabilitation to more mainstream channels I suspect.

BlueBelle Thu 16-Feb-23 07:50:51

Jeremy Kyle ?? Is he around Kate where ? I ve never seen his name mentioned since he went under a cloud

If someone is determined not to be found it’s possible she has maybe gone over and over it for months before acting, at first I couldn’t believe she would leave those little girls but a very depressed mum would be thinking ‘they ll be better of without me’

What a shame this wasn't revealed earlier.
So sad for Nicola.

merlotgran Wed 15-Feb-23 22:20:50

This explains why the police didn’t take part in the Dan Walker televised interview with Nicola Bulley’s partner who talked at length about her without a hint of any problems with alcohol.

Given all the interest and support from the public it should have been revealed from the start to avoid speculation.

Fleurpepper Wed 15-Feb-23 21:36:46

Very sad. I always felt that something was missing from the information we were given- which is why I felt strongly we should wait and not speculate.

welbeck, they have explained significant facts about the background which clearly they weren’t able to divulge earlier. I think they have been driven to do so in their own defence.

I agree. I now feel bad about how critical I have been about their handling of the case.

That’s why less is more on this topic.
Seems to me that the police are and have been, doing all that they possibly could do from day one.
They have been forced into saying all this now by the negative speculation around the case.

Galaxy Wed 15-Feb-23 20:07:04

Poor woman. I think there may be many people juggling work, family etc who have that particular vulnerability.

Smileless2012 Wed 15-Feb-23 20:02:30

the truth will always out I agree CatsCatsCats no matter how long it takes.

CatsCatsCats Wed 15-Feb-23 19:56:47

Hmm, I didn't think of it like that - that the police might not have been able to divulge her 'vulnerabilities'.

But I can't help thinking it would have been better for the police if the information had been released sooner rather than later.

Why all the secrecy? I don't see the point in it, as the truth will always out....

BlueBelle Wed 15-Feb-23 19:55:17

I think there’s a whole new background to it all and it will come out at some point
I think the police have been trying to honour the family by not divulging some of the more private reasons for her disappearance
All very very sad

Iam64 Wed 15-Feb-23 19:50:45

Well said Galaxy 😞

Galaxy Wed 15-Feb-23 19:42:20

I think this happens to a number of professions, I remember an episode of this morning where a father was vocally criticising the social workers who had taken away his child ( he fought through the courts to have the child returned) the social workers obviously could not comment. He is now in prison for the murder of his child.
