This, in the news is breaking my heart.
I hope she comes home safe soon - but every passing day is such a worry.

It’s all too much I agree so much suffering pain and tragedy people are going through. It does want to make you switch off the news but we are human and we can’t help but worry.

I’m just so upset about what her family are going through. And now with the earthquake disaster I feel so helpless that people are suffering so much. I feel as though I should turn off the news channels but I can’t. It’s all just so awful.

That’s what I feel too Lizbethann

The river is deep, fast flowing and tidal. I suspect that Nicola did tragically fall in and that she was far away before anyone even realised that she was missing. I just pray that she is found before too long.

I’m not suggesting for one moment that she might have planned it.

Katie59 Tue 07-Feb-23 18:27:14

She certainly would not have taken the phone because she would be tracked easily, credit cards are also easy to track. IF this is a planned disappearance it has been meticulously planned - no evidence, no video surveillance.

We will see

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 07-Feb-23 17:43:57

Depends on what was said, how far she thought she was going - i.e. not very far, perhaps a few steps.

If she went willingly with someone she knew for some plausible reason there wouldn’t be any signs of a struggle.

She would have picked up the phone and taken the dog.

I do wonder how reliable the evidence from the witnesses is.... it's been shown many, many times that recall can be flawed.
There's been cases of other missing people and witnesses convinced that they saw the person at a particular place/time and this has later been proved to be absolutely wrong and/or impossible.
I can't imagine what the family are going through and we can only hope for a resolution sooner rather than later.

I think the police are working with no clues at all there just appears nothing to go on She disappeared with no signs of a struggle or an abduction surely if someone had grabbed her there would have been scuff mark in the grass and her phone would not have been laid carefully on the bench but fell or flew out her hand
I think they are doing what they can there is nothing at all to indicate she left that area I hope the divers can find some clues but I’m not sure they will
It’s a total mystery
But I don’t think the police should be criticised we don’t know what is going on behind the scenes

Sorry, but if this was a potential crime scene then why were all the TV reporters in the UK stomping around that bench? The whole area should have been sealed off and forensically examined to within an inch of its life.

I am just commenting on the newspaper reports which are in the public domain. The specialist diver is now saying that the phone may have been left there as a decoy during an abduction. That is what I thought right from the start. I hope the Police have been investigating that, but the focus seems to have been very much on the river. I really hope that precious time has not been wasted here.

*Totally agree. It does seem that the police very quickly decided what had happened and excluded other theories. It could be that they are aware of other factors.*

Everything I've read suggests this is not true – i.e. the police are conducting many investigations. This is from the BBC article I just looked at: "Police believe Ms Bulley may have fallen into the River Wyre, but they "remain open minded" and are continuing to carry out a "huge number" of inquiries."

Yes, I quite agree Baggs
It’s just that the river searches are so visible and can be filmed and photographed.
Just because we can’t see all of the other work that is being carried, doesn’t mean that it isn’t happening

I feel uncomfortable speculating on Nicola Bulley’s disappearance whilst there are two little girls at home with their Daddy desperately wanting and needing their Mummy.

Indeed.

The thread is unpleasant, to me praying and hoping are best.

And criticising the police investigation when we don’t have all the facts

"Factor"?

In what? Bulley's disappearance?

GagaJo Tue 07-Feb-23 12:12:37

Now suggesting that the other person, witness, who was sighted is a possible factor.

I mentioned the tracking dogs several few days ago. They should have been following her trail on day one. And the spaniel.

Also, why wasn't the area sealed off for footprints or clues? Every reporter in the country has been stomping around that bench. It was never treated as a potential crime scene from the start.

I too thought paddyann54 that how far a person would travel would vary enormously depending on the individual river, how fast it was flowing etc, but what I quoted was what the diving expert had said.
Maybe with his comment, he had already factored in the state of the particular river they are checking.
Those two cases you mentioned were dreadfully sad.

paddyann54 Tue 07-Feb-23 10:22:45

Jennifer Eccles In our experience the two people we knew who drowned took weeks to recover as they had both been carried several miles downstream .In one case the search was hampered by it being winter and snow lying on the foliage at the watersedge.
In both cases the people were young mid twenties although one was a tragic accident the other took her own life due to post natal depressionshe left 2 wee ones and a young baby .
I hope to never know anyone else who has suffered as these families have and that Nicola will be found soon .The waiting is worse than knowing in some cases
