This, in the news is breaking my heart.
I hope she comes home safe soon - but every passing day is such a worry.

Peter Faulding who is the head of the team of underwater experts recently brought in, has said in all his twenty years of being in the business, he’s never known anything like this case. He explained that people who fall in rivers and drown, stay pretty close to where they fell in, yet an extensive search has found nothing.
He has always expressed strong doubts that that is what happened to poor Nicola.

Possibly the next few days of searching by his team of divers will throw the search in a different direction.

I mentioned the tracking dogs several few days ago. They should have been following her trail on day one. And the spaniel.

Also, why wasn't the area sealed off for footprints or clues? Every reporter in the country has been stomping around that bench. It was never treated as a potential crime scene from the start.

merlotgran Tue 07-Feb-23 08:23:02

I’m surprised the police didn’t take the dog with one of their dog handlers back to the scene the day after Nicola was reported missing. Spaniels have a good nose and there would still have been a scent. I haven’t read any reports of them using experienced tracker dogs either but I could be wrong about that.

Honestly at this stage I truly think we should stop speculating. It is serving no purpose. We should all wait imho, and hope.

I agree, no good will come from speculating, we should wait, and hole for the best.

I'm also sick of all the false reporting and speculation, but let's not forget it is driven not only by the media but by do Gooders too. Last night one of the friends set up a funding page to raise £100k for the family. What was she thinking? It just raises suspicion.

I'm equally appalled by people giving their opinion of the little girl in the weekend's Epsom School tragedy .... a former nursery worker, a former neighbour, a photographer. What happened to sensitivity?

Don't underestimate how easy it is to slip into a river. A few years ago I was photographing all the bridges on the Thames, and at one point I only saved myself from falling in by grabbing a bunch of stinging nettles. Cue diversion to M&S Oxford for a new pair of trousers.

But there is no forensic evidence of that apparently.
I havent watched much real crime programmes, and maybe even those are not a true reflection, but I was of the opinion, that forensics are sophisticated.
Perhpas I have been wrong.

BlueBelle Tue 07-Feb-23 03:42:24

I think you’re right gtumppa the combination of wet grass mud and a slope can be lethal I can’t believe if there was an abduction the phone would have been laid neatly in the bench surely it would have gone flying
I just hope they find some clues soon, it doesn’t bear thinking about for the family to never know.

Agree about ear plugs and human safety. Should be banned on bikes and for dog walkers. They’ve no idea what their dog is doing

Well good luck with that. How do you propose to ban them when millions of people are walking and cycling around like that every day and can remove the ear plugs at a moment's notice.

Chestnut, me thinking they should be banned doesn’t make it so, I fully get that. We need to heighten awareness though about the risks associated with walking/cycling listening to ear plugs. Yes they’re easily removed but not before the damage is done. I’ve had crazy off lead dogs barking causing stress to children and on lead dogs, owners oblivious as their focus is whatever they’re listening to.
Lone walkers won’t know they’re about to be attacked by someone coming up behind them, because they can’t hear anything.
And - being out walking in our beautiful country side is such a joy, why not ease into it, be present with its scents and noises

I agree with everything you've said. It's a modern day tragedy that people go everywhere with noise in their ears and fail to hear the sounds of the real world. But I'm not sure anything can change that. It's up to each individual to make that decision.

Ok forget I mentioned anything about a boat. I'm just hoping she is somewhere safe.

we know it is' natural' but better to wait for news. see below

Pasted and Copied

Diving expert says he is 'baffled' after finding no trace of Nicola Bulley following trawl of 'large areas of the water' - as police scour site seven miles from where missing mother-of-two was last seen.

Meanwhile, a huge presence of emergency services were spotted combing an area around Shard Bridge tonight - around seven miles from where the mother was last seen.

Joane123 Mon 06-Feb-23 22:19:32

It is quite natural when this is such a worrying case and there is so much news coverage to want to discuss this.
Thoughts with the family.

You are right of course Fleurpepper.
This situation is incredibly sad.
Perhaps no more posts now? Let’s await developments whilst we hope for the best.

I agree.
I do think we were worrying out loud but it doesn't help.

I agree with that Fleurpepper before the theories get any more wild and whacky.

Just a thought but could she have possibly got onto a boat of some sort or is that a bonkers idea. I don't know how wide the river is where she was walking.

BlueBelle Mon 06-Feb-23 19:04:01

I think the police have taken it seriously. This is a strange case. It’s assumed Nicola fell in the river, she could have been taken. Doubt very much Nicola would have taken chances, is she was going in the river, she would have told the person she was speaking to.
So sorry for her family, hood with all my heart they find her.

She obviously wasnt planning on going in the river Allsorts what do you mean when you say she would have told the person she was talking to !!! Anyway there was no one on the phone it was a work conference so no one would necessarily known that she was no longer on the end

I firmly believe if she had been abducted her phone would not have been laid neatly on the bench it would have been dropped or flown as she was grabbed

As Sherlock Holmes said when you have ruled out the probable then look at the improbable.

I can’t understand why, if she was abducted/lured away, the dog didn’t follow. Obviously everything that we’re thinking has been thoroughly discussed and looked into by the police. It really is a mystery.

There is one theory that hasn't been discussed but let's wait and see if anything comes of this new high-tech river search. I won't go speculating unless there is no other option.

Rosina Mon 06-Feb-23 18:02:41

This morning there was an item in the paper saying that recently a woman had fallen into about six feet of water, and her body had been swept fifteen miles downriver in just a couple of days. However strong a swimmer, if you have padded clothing and your boots fill with water, then great strength would be needed to swim or climb out. Poor lady - I so hope she is found safe.
