I can assure you that being ignored certainly does wind people up.

Galaxy Sat 04-Feb-23 10:58:35

It depends though doesnt it. If I came on and said I think eating cheese makes you more likely to support the monarchy then it perfectly reasonable for people to ask but is that true?

toscalily Sat 04-Feb-23 10:44:23

Bit like the politicians really, who are of course intellectually superior and we are just the hoi poloi.

Not everyone has a thick skin like Urmstongran.
If she stopped feeding them, they’d be stuffed.

Oh ‘eck! Maybe I ought to stop! 🤣

😄😄😄😄 like me you can’t help yourself. Besides it is fun.

It is! And I can’t. 🤣
However whilst getting ready to leave just now I got to thinking. (Dangerous for me). In future if I read an article that I find of interest I think I’m going to post it in ‘Chat’ not ‘News’. Kind of less forensic, more opinion based? Like what you’d do round a table with friends “did you see such and-such in the paper/on tv this morning?” No-one ever says about your opinion ‘can you give evidence/provide a link’ there! Might be a better way forward in a gentler way to encourage more of us to just ‘chat’ about topics.

Any thoughts?

Yes good idea. But no fun. You aren’t winding anyone up are you😄😄.

Remember the “ not the politics” thread that we tried? Ended in failure.

All in all, I think that the best thing is what happens now.

Avoid the N&P thread if you hate robust debate, and continue to think what an odd lot the N&P enthusiasts are😄😄😄 I have a broad back and can happily live with that.

Sounds good Urmstrong but where are the ‘rules’ that you have to provide evidence ect on N&P seems unique to GN
Can’t people just have an opinion this is just a forum.

MaizieD Sat 04-Feb-23 10:38:19

Well, this thread seems to have established that lots of posters are really, really interested in politics, so the OP wasn't targeted at them at all. But they've taken the opportunity to come on and have a pop at 'some people', anyway.

It's immaterial really whether interested folks post on N & P or not.

It was the 'not interested in politics' folk that the OP was seeking, I think because they are the most frustrating section of the voting public who appear to have power without responsibility and who contribute to momentous and far reaching events without any thought at all. They always seem to be the people chosen for media vox pops, which also makes one wonder if those who are interested in politics are in a minority.

It does seem like a superannuated
6th form debating society at times

FannyCornforth Sat 04-Feb-23 10:34:41

I usually do just that Urms.

Yes sounds good to me Urmston. Chatting with friends is far more enjoyable than being quoted facts and figures all the time. Many of us have opinions on politics and politicians without being able to quote the exact sources.

nanna8 Sat 04-Feb-23 10:28:07

Yes- sounds good to me. What right do these people have to dissect posts and crap on anyway ? Pretend intellectuals ?

I frequently disagree with UG but I like feeding time 🤣🤣🤣

Yammy Sat 04-Feb-23 09:58:44

Well said Maggiemaybe. I think you have explained what a lot of us think. If people want to air their views in such an arrogant superior manner they should if not already join the Constituency party they hold allegiance to and get into some verbal tirades that they seem to enjoy. Can't or don't want ever more battles in their life.
The question in itself is confrontational. I am wondering why I have answered.

Also I am sure that some posters dont like some of my posts, that's the risk of being on an open forum, it's absolutely fine for people to not like what I say.

Yes absolutely. I have no problem with that. But I do have a problem where posters come away feeling like s…t on someone’s shoe.

That is dreadful.

How can one respond to innuendo?

I assume I am one of the posters that is being talked about, but until I am pointed to posts that I have posted that people find objectionable, how can I learn to avoid such posts in future?

I really don’t think that you are at all! You are always lovely, I have never noticed you being rude.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 04-Feb-23 09:52:26

Galaxy

I never find your posts unpleasant whitewave, ever. I might disagree with you sometimes but you are never unpleasant.
I think this is the problem with threads that end up about 'some posters'. Its pointless.

Thanks for that, but the offer is still open folks.

And yes whilst talking in such terms it is pointless really.

How about just quoting a couple of actual lines in a post to make your points more meaningful?

If one;s ideas are not to be challenged how can one learn?

There’s ‘challenged’ and there’s ‘being spoken to like something unpleasant on the sole of one’s shoe’

Maggiemaybe Sat 04-Feb-23 09:43:22

I find on the politics thread there are actually only a couple of people who are pains in the proverbial and if you never respond to their particular wit and sarcasm it is ok.

Hmm. Respond or not, you’ll soon know about it if they don’t like you, or are just in the mood for a bit of fun at someone else’s expense.

I’m deeply interested in politics of all kinds, and often scroll through the threads to see the news and views, but rarely comment. There are some knowledgeable and interesting posters on N & P, but sadly some of them like to emphasise their superiority by putting others down.

I’m not a sensitive soul by any means but really, life’s too short to spend time in the kind of company you’d cross the road to avoid in real life. smile
