When we were battling each other in the Commons as prime minister and leader of the opposition, we never guessed that two decades later we would produce a joint report on the vital steps that need to be taken to secure the future of our country.

The link above takes you to a commentary and from there there is a link to the full report.

I saw this a couple of days ago but I'm afraid my bias against digital ID meant I got on with something else instead of reading it.

What did you think about it - having presumably read to the end?
Did you read the pdf?

I haven't read it all yet but I will get busy and forget to flag it if I wait.

I just thought others might find it interesting, if only because it came from two people who were once on opposing sides. This seems to be happening more frequently and it gives me hope. I like to try and pass hope forward.

I am absolutely terrified of AI.

Who can tell me what it is and what are its benefits.

Good they have been thinking about science and perhaps more co-operation with the EU can take place now the Tories have got beyond blaming the EU for everything but science is not the only contribution to the way ahead. Education in the widest sense, a first rate cadre of politicians and civil servants, attention to the needs of all strata in society, a recognition that immigrants can enhance the UK and a willingness to recognise the value of co-operation with foreigners - these are some of the essentials. That said, science is important but it does not attract the numbers of potential students it used to do in the post-WW2 period until about 1970.
