Camilla has reportedly indicated she wants her five grandchildren (three are pictured left); Lola and Eliza, both 15, Freddy, 13, and twins Louis and Gus, also 13, to hold the canopy over her as she is anointed with holy oil on May 6.

It's natural for a grandmother to want to gather her grandchildren around her. But a canopy, holy oil and anointment? What a load of piffle. The monarchy is well past its sell-by date and mainly nowadays a source of gossip and scandal.

Too many pictures of Kate and what she is wearing…

Well, going back 40 years, we were looking at lots of pictures of Diana and her fashions.

Then back in the 50’s and 60’s, it was the fashions of Princess Margaret that were in the papers.

So nothing new really.

He had no rights to be King

So many others before him- nothing new here.

So what do you think should happen? Should the line of succession be broken because you disapprove?

polly123 Mon 27-Feb-23 14:17:25

Had every respect for the previous Queen but have very little interest in the monarchy any more. Too many pictures of Kate and what she is wearing while performing for various photo ops here and there.

A load of baloney. She is married to the king. Should she be queen... I don't think so. Prince Philip was not king. and he had more right than an ex mistress.

(From a previous poster…)
“King Charles seems to be making a kind thoughtful choice.
Well done him being inclusive“

I believe that King Charles, in his heart, wants both sons present and is working on making that happen. Being inclusive is noble, but immediate family - heir and a spare - do matter just as much, actually more.
KC appears to be someone who wants to please everyone.
Aren’t women always in charge, though? 😆
I watch all Royal stuff on TV out some sheer, weird, fascination.
Cheers!

Thank you for answering my question Calendargirl and Merlot.

Does anybody know if the Queen Mother was anointed when she was crowned alongside George VI?

Yes she was.

Calendargirl Mon 27-Feb-23 13:13:10

Hannah

Yes, the Queen Mother was crowned and anointed.

I cannot imagine it’s something C&C have dreamed up, they are just following tradition in this respect.

knspol Mon 27-Feb-23 13:03:40

Don't care at all who holds the canopy. Do wonder why Camilla is being anointed with holy oil. Is it usual for a King or Queen's other half to be anointed in this way or even anointed at all. She is not a queen as was Elizabeth 11 she is a queen consort. Just wondering...

Shill29 Mon 27-Feb-23 13:01:34

Like the idea of a wonky canopy 🤣🤣

It has been a long and bumpy road for both the King and Queen, good luck to them. They certainly deserve happiness especially nice that the Queen gave them her blessing. Also a lovely part of history that people abroad love to see. A lot feel we do this type of thing so we’ll. I know a few Americans that are so hyped up and are coming over for this.

polnan Mon 27-Feb-23 12:53:14

I have been, all my life, a Royalist, and remain in favour of that, no,no, no, to a Premier!

but I agree with Blossoming on the first page

I could not care less, but the more I read about the plans and the costs, the more I think it’s totally inappropriate in a country with so much poverty, homelessness and food banks.

The crown is passed on down the line regardless of the character and behaviour of the recipient and like it or not we just have to suck it up. Perhaps the duchesses were being a bit sniffy about Camilla being crowned and she is playing them at their own game. I do have a question, though, according to tradition Charles is anointed to show he was chosen by God but Camilla was chosen by Charles so why is she to be anointed at all. There was no chance of the late Duke of Edinburgh being crowned or anointed. I am sure someone will know the reason.

The Kate D of E was not anointed or crowned because that would have made him king and he would have outranked the Queen, the rightful reigning monarch.
If it was allowed I’m sure Queen Victoria would had Albert crowned, she was besotted and would have done anything to please him.
Does anybody know if the Queen Mother was anointed when she was crowned alongside George VI?

icanhandthemback Mon 27-Feb-23 12:36:24

I won't be watching Charles and Camilla getting crowned because I really don't like either of them. However, if she must be going through this, then I don't see the problem with her having her grandchildren there. Like them or not, they are a blended family now and that is how reasonable blended families behave, inclusively.

grandtanteJE65 Mon 27-Feb-23 12:34:43

I take this as a sign that the British Royal Family are trying to move with the times.

Many marriages end in divorce these days, whereafter the divorced marry again and include their own and/or their new spouse's children from earlier marriages in the family. So it is all to the good if the present king and his queen are doing the same.

Queens have traditionally always been anointed and crowned at the same time as their husbands. It was only when a king married after his coronation that his wife was crowned in a separate ceremony.

Vive la republique!

Larsonsmum Mon 27-Feb-23 12:27:40

That’s great - would be strange to me if they were not part of the Coronation.

Galaxy Mon 27-Feb-23 12:25:18

I had to sort out my dads citizenship when Brexit made it necessary, thank goodness that wasnt part of it, he would have refused knowing him.

Fleurpepper Mon 27-Feb-23 12:22:48

The Officer looked just like Captain Manwaring, it was very hard to remain 'composed' - in Stoke.on-Trent!

She can do what she wants, they’re still not my monarchs. I’m a citizen, not a subject, and I don’t recognise this ridiculous, outmoded concept of a ‘royal family’.

When I became a British citizen, early 1973- I had no choice. I had to swear on the Bible, in front of a Solicitor for Oaths of Allegiance, that I would be a Faithful Servant of The Queen and her descendants.

TBsNana Mon 27-Feb-23 12:17:44

What coronation? 🥱

Zoejory Mon 27-Feb-23 12:13:29

I'm just disappointed that Prince Louis is not going to get centre stage. He's to be a spectator apparently.

Dillonsgranma Mon 27-Feb-23 12:11:55

Good for her! I’d want my grandchildren to do that for me as well !
