Camilla has reportedly indicated she wants her five grandchildren (three are pictured left); Lola and Eliza, both 15, Freddy, 13, and twins Louis and Gus, also 13, to hold the canopy over her as she is anointed with holy oil on May 6.

I have a neck chain with amethysts attached , I can wear it on my head, well around my forehead, it’s purple ?

Bromley Mon 27-Feb-23 16:32:44

I think it’s a love story for the two of them.
However, I hate the fact that we have to pay for the Coronation.
I wish I could state where my taxes go…and it wouldn’t be for this.
Thank goodness that we will be abroad when it happens.

Anointed with holy oil ! What a farce
I wouldn’t mind the children being involved , but seriously the ‘oil bit ‘ is too far. Do they take us all for fools

Not just fools they treat us as their subjects with disdain.
It's an easy get-out to say no comment which the palace is always saying.

Charles is turning it into a jolly for his royal mates (Possibly some of them are bringing donations in plastic bags??)

Don't care at all who holds the canopy. Do wonder why Camilla is being anointed with holy oil. Is it usual for a King or Queen's other half to be anointed in this way or even anointed at all. She is not a queen as was Elizabeth 11 she is a queen consort. Just wondering...

I don’t think Camilla should be crowned queen, she should be queen consort.

And that’s your prerogative. Enjoy.🤣🤣

Pageantry as we know it is a very recent phenomenon- Edwardian.

The craze for historical pageants began after a 1905 pageant in the small town of Sherborne, Dorset, when pageant-master Louis Napoleon Parker recruited 800 local people for a performance watched by 30,000.¹ Before the First World War pageants regularly took place in small southern towns. They usually consisted of a chronological series of distinct episodes that began with the Roman occupation of Britain, depicted Queen Elizabeth I and a romanticised ‘Merrie England’, and ended before the eighteenth century. During the interwar period, however, historical pageants gained increasing popularity in industrial towns and cities and were used to commemorate industries, organisations...

Last night I watched the beginning of a programme about the Victorians and there was film of Victoria being driven along (probably The Mall) in an open coach as part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations n 1897.

She'll still be Queen Consort.

English pageantry is not recent as anyone with any knowledge of English history would know.
The article you quote from is about the re-enactment of older historical pageants, a movement started in the early 1900s.

The Plantagenets were known for their pageants.
The Tudors were very ostentatious and fond of pageantry.

Triumphal Entry of Henry VI, 1432
After two years in France where he had been crowned king, Henry VI landed at Dover and made his way to Blackheath where on February 21, 1432 he was met by the mayor, aldermen, and other Londoners, and led past seven pageants that had been set up at various locations in the city.

FleurPepper is your quote an excerpt from a book called "Restaging the Past: Historical Pageants, Culture and Society in Modern Britain"?

The re-staging of English historical pageants, re-enactment of historical events does seem to be popular in Britain.
Bringing history to life makes it more interesting.

Do you not know how poor the nation was when Elizabeth 11 was crowned?
This is a day of national celebration. We should all be happy. My family is diverse and all generations plan to celebrate. It’s certainly better than the bitter misery some of you display. We could have had the anti semetic Corbyn as our head of state a few years were we a republic. Perhaps you’d prefer Johnson?

Galaxy Tue 28-Feb-23 08:01:54

It's not bitter to hold a different view. I wasnt aware Johnson and Corbyn were the only options.

We still put on a good show!!
I think rationing had just about finished too.

My parents weren't well off but they did buy a television and all the neighbours brought chairs and came in to watch.

Forsythia Tue 28-Feb-23 09:59:09

If she wants her grandchildren there, it’s not a surprise surely. Wouldn’t we all want our grandchildren at important moments in our own lives. I’m sure it’s not a crime!

We don’t know that do we? Or did the DM say that? We only know what has been published in the media and some of that has already proven to be wrong. We don’t know whether he’s been invited, or whether he’s been offered a role.
Unless you have insider knowledge of course.

EXCLUSIVE: Labour 'must take on Royal Family over discrimination law exemption' call
Campaigners within the Labour Party have urged Keir Starmer to remove a loophole if he becomes PM which means the monarch isn't subject to equality laws which other employers must abide by

To put this in their manifesto

In 2021 an investigation by The Guardian found that the late Queen was personally exempted from more than 160 laws, including the Equality Act.

These exemptions were expected to be passed down to her son when he ascended to the throne.

The palace declined to comment when contacted by the Mirror

"his actual son". You mean the son who has taken every opportunity to slag off his father, his brother, other relatives, and the whole institution of the Monarchy, often with lies which have been proven to be so?

"his actual son" who can't be trusted with a single conversation or text message without it being repeated to the media? Yes, the media that he purports to loathe.
