But will he have the courage to take the whip away from the ERG and others, if they vote against on a three line whip?

JRM “always polite”???!!! He’s the most smug, the most patronising, the most condescending b*****d on the planet! angry

True,
but polite with it.😂

Not much about the ERG at all Casdon.
I see Steve Baker supports it ‘in theory’. Maybe the heat is off?

But ug it is the working classes that are paying the price for more expensive food, less opportunity, less educational opportunity, poorer health service etc.

Here in the middle class south (which voted remain) whilst it undoubtedly are affected, are no so impacted by this state of affairs.

I’m hardly a poster girl for Brexit since I didn’t vote for it, but have to disagree with you here, food is going up in price due to energy prices, education is the same in the UK as ever and the NHS has bugger all to do with the EU.

Glad that Sunak has reached an agreement with the EU on NI,
Credit to him and his team for that at least. As DaisyAnne says, good to have someone normal in charge.

I loved listening to “The Mogster” on GB news tonight.
Always polite.
He had Lee Anderson as a guest. Ex+Labour politician.
The Red Wall love him.
And David Davis.

What did he say of import Urmstongran, anything about ERG support or otherwise for the Windsor proposals?

Urmstongran Mon 27-Feb-23 21:51:39

Less educational opportunity? Are you ‘avin a larf?
Don’t you read that working class white boys are the most disadvantaged group? We working classes still strive but with less aspiration. It is what is is and we get by.

And as for poorer health services? They’re dire for many at present. But the more well off can always choose to go private. We manage, as best as. Always have. Nowt much different whether in EU or not - so for a nice big fat change, guess what? Given a vote, We chose NOT.

My children and grandchildren are Irish, thankfully, but already I see how their contemporaries’ lives will be smaller, poorer and less full of opportunity than mine - or yours - and that’s a tragedy and a travesty.

Often said by middle class people Siope.
Different horizons & expectations.

Us, ‘in the working class’ (ie non professionals, less money, less ‘gap years’, less expectations of movement for jobs in Europe - not so much to ‘lose’.

Maybe Brexit drew that difference writ large.

Thoughts and prayers with Boris Johnson’s ambitions and narcissism at this difficult time

Whitewavemark2 Mon 27-Feb-23 21:31:15

No I agree siope this agreement is really only to try to get Storment functional again. So from that point of view I am pleased for democracy in NI and for the much put upon people who live there - that is of course if the DUP play ball, but I think Paisley is already pushing back.

It will have zero impact on Brexit - the only way that will happen will be closer alignment leading to rejoining the single market and customs union.

Siope Mon 27-Feb-23 21:21:41

Siope I agree with you on so many points!
I’m feeling ‘progress has been made’ and truly hope for better times ahead. Maybe those ‘sunny uplands’? Haha!

To be honest I voted for Brexit.
I was ecstatic at the result.
Then deflated (indicative votes in Parliament anyone?)
Finally pragmatic. Let’s make the best of what freedoms from divergence we have with the best of what ‘can be’.

Life is rarely ‘all or nothing’ or black and white.

I’m afraid we still draw very different conclusions from this. I don’t for a single second expect it to improve the overall dire and long-lasting impact of Brexit, and I’m not remotely pragmatic about it. My children and grandchildren are Irish, thankfully, but already I see how their contemporaries’ lives will be smaller, poorer and less full of opportunity than mine - or yours - and that’s a tragedy and a travesty.

Watching the HoC I have to say he has done well. I don't know if it's water-tight or if the usual suspects will destroy it, but he has worked to get this.

It won't change how I feel about the government, but it is soooo good to see someone in government getting on with being normal.

I do! The EU bod I am talking about😄

So do I.

HousePlantQueen Mon 27-Feb-23 20:25:41

A reminder:

Quite something to see the man who was Chancellor in the government that won an election on an oven ready deal absolutely ripping that deal to shreds and exposing it for the half baked bullshit it was, and being cheered by MP s who voted for it and won their seats on it too

MayBee70 Mon 27-Feb-23 20:11:41

As has just been pointed out on Facebook. Congratulations, Ireland is finally back to where it was prior to brexit. It has only taken how many years? Made worse by the fact that they didn’t even vote for it.

Johnson is a coward - he never actually came out and said anything or gave interviews where he could be seriously questioned these past weeks, just friends and acolytes made it known he was on manoeuvres.

Well I hope that has all backfired on Johnson and this deal comes to fruition.

For goodness sake, any chance of a jab. He’s not involving himself in front-line UK politics anymore, so get over it!

Fleurpepper Mon 27-Feb-23 19:38:27

Willbe interesting to see who will be in The House for PMQ on wednesday!

Casdon Mon 27-Feb-23 19:34:56

MerylStreep

I doubt if Jacob Rees Mogg is there. He has a news slot on GB News at 8 o/ clock.

I can’t bear to watch him, I would be throwing my shoe at the TV, but I expect he will be acting as the mouthpiece of the ERG, so if anybody can stomach him please report back with what he says?

No Ug there are no gray areas regarding brexit.

Brexit has been a disaster - the worst thing that has happened to the UK in my lifetime.

You and the rest of the Leave voters were warned. You were told the truth but you chose not to believe it.

What is so hurtful is that you and another 17 million of our citizens were persuaded to vote Leave in a fraudulent referendum and thus inflicted this harm on our country.

I remember you being an enthusiastic leaver Ug but I also remember you being an enthusiastic supporter of Donald Trump. Did you not say "you liked powerful men"?

You were wrong about Trump and about Brexit. It might be very hard for you to admit it but you were wrong.

Riverwalk Mon 27-Feb-23 19:05:37

Just watching Parliament- are the usual suspects present, Johnson, Rees Mogg, etc?

It will be interesting to see what they have to say.

Fleurpepper Mon 27-Feb-23 18:28:22

This is inded fabulous news, and I so hope it will be made to work and not scuppered by the extremists.

I am afraid Urmstongran, that it will make no difference to the situation re imports and exports from the UK to EU, and vice-versa.
