Am watching the questioning of BJ at the moment, it is making me cringe. Any one else feel the same???

sandelf Fri 24-Mar-23 14:04:44

Such a waste of time and money (all these folk earn a king's ransom). I know SO many people who ignored the guidelines - 'you're only 70 once' etc that I really don't care any more. There is useful and important work they could be doing.

polly123 Fri 24-Mar-23 14:05:39

Question Time was certainly telling with absolutely no support for BJ. He is a narcissist and quite comfortable about lying and throwing anyone under a bus. He was rattled at times and I look forward to reading the responses of body language specialists etc. His ridiculously expensive lawyer was also very interesting to watch. What a farce!

Luckygirl3 Fri 24-Mar-23 14:07:05

I've not been following this - too cringeworthy. Have they carted him off in handcuffs yet? - wishful thinking I guess!

MayBee70 Fri 24-Mar-23 14:07:17

He seemed to be surrounded by people helping him. One was on his phone: why was that allowed?

And were all those people the Prime Minister, and did they all lie to Parliament?

Because, if not, they are not comparable.

Siope Fri 24-Mar-23 14:13:32

Maybee, it was agreed that Paddick could bring three staff members to provide Johnson with advice/information in writing only.

Originally, I believe, Johnson wanted his legal team to be able to answer questions or provide verbal advice and the Committee refused.

I don't know anybody who ignored the rules. Nobody at all. Saying "everybody ignored the guidelines" is just gaslighting and just plain wrong.

Defending the reputation and honesty of our democracy is quite "useful and important work".

Reputation? Honesty? This is Johnson - we knew who he was when we voted. Only the 'very unwise' could have hoped he would somehow become an honorable man with a conscience.

volver3 Fri 24-Mar-23 14:33:05

I do wish people would learn how to quote other people's posts, it would make life so much easier...

Anyway, example below...

Reputation? Honesty? This is Johnson - we knew who he was when we voted. Only the 'very unwise' could have hoped he would somehow become an honorable man with a conscience.

Many of us knew what he was like which is why we wouldn't have voted for him in a month of Sundays. So now it's time to show everybody what kind of man he is and get him out of the House of Commons, so regaining our reputation. That's what's happening, do you understand that?

Keffie12 Fri 24-Mar-23 14:34:21

JOB on Johnson disecting the narcissist prayer and how it applies to Johnson

Did you vote for him, sandelf, knowing all that?

(and please don't anyone leap in and tell me that you vote for your own MP. I think everyone who reads this will know exactly what I mean)

I’m with you Urm 😉 I think we are the only two. Over and out.

Why not?
He wasn’t in a criminal court.

Oreo Fri 24-Mar-23 14:48:52

Sandelf I know lots of people who broke lockdown rules and partied, and there were huge weddings that went on under the radar and huge funerals.
There were also some hospital staff who partied and posted pics online.Neighbours continued with BBQ’s in their back gardens.
It went on.
Boris and Number 10 officials had to show they were squeaky clean tho, as leading the Nation.

Fleurpepper Fri 24-Mar-23 15:19:24

Not sure what you are trying to say Oreo. Are you supporting Johnson here?

Those who broke the rules were a tiny minority- and they didn't make said rules!

I'm another who doesn't know anyone at all who ignored the guidelines sandelf.

You maybe don't care anymore but others do.
And it's not "either-or".
Useful and important work can still go on.
And frankly this is important.

I don't know anyone who broke the guidelines, either.

I'm not terribly sure that I actually believe in these 'huge weddings and huge funerals' that went on under the radar. 'Nor partying hospital staff posting on facebook. But there you go...

Two wrongs don’t make a right, even if everybody you knew was partying - they were all breaking the law, weren’t they?

I’m unable to comprehend why people think the government who set the law for everybody should deem it acceptable to blatantly break it themselves.

MayBee70 Fri 24-Mar-23 16:01:17

Isn’t it a bit like saying it’s ok for the police to break the law whilst at the same time as apparently upholding it? Would that be acceptable?

And what did you do about it? Did you phone the police? Tiny minority of people behaved badly- I would have not hesitated in the least in 'shopping' them. Did you?

And there is your evidence of this?

Totally irrelevant anyhow, as these people were probably not the ones who had imposed the rules on the rest of us.

M0nica Fri 24-Mar-23 16:41:40

is it any different from the police applying the law while harbouring rapists, mysoginists racists and homophobic members.

In the case of the police the Casey Report was commissioned and we are all as one in saying that what is happening is utterly unacceptable and must change.

If the police are not above the law, why should an ex-prime Minister be so?

knspol Fri 24-Mar-23 16:59:22

Did any of the govts broadcasts say that work events were perfectly acceptable??? Don't think so.

Fleurpepper Fri 24-Mar-23 17:05:56

It seems most of us agree that he is a liar- bar 2. And that he let us all down very badly, at the worst possible time.

But will this turn out to be minor, as compared to being a probable traitor. The Russian report is stillb being suppressed and dodged, even though we know Putin and allies had such a strong desire to destroy the powerful EU, and hide their assets in the UK. Is Johnson partly to blame for the war in Ukraine, indeed.

MayBee70 Fri 24-Mar-23 17:18:52

Johnson has always thought of himself as being above the law. He even made it clear that he wanted to change the law of the land but people still voted for him. To be fair to him, apart from pretending to be everybody’s mate: the sort of MP that working class people could happily muddle along with, he’s never really hidden his disdain for the law. His father is the same.
