There are some very informative videos on YouTube by Brian Tyler Cohen and lawyer Glenn Kirschner about Trump's situation and other Republican problems. The explanations are fairly easy to understand for those of us who are not in the legal profession.

There are many videos from both Democrat leaning and Republican leaning people. Perhaps watch and compare for their take on the current situation. Some are more delusional than others.

How fortunate we are “on this little forum for Grannies”, to have the unsolicited, free guidance of a true gatekeeper of the truth, albeit self-appointed and with no visible credentials, who can always so unerringly differentiate between fact and opinion… although it often seems that their core belief is that their opinion always coincides with fact. I was reading today that both Putin and Xi are keen to have Trump back in power.

Putin did all he could to aid Trump in his election in 2017 and it is thought that he will be trying to do the same again. It is clear that their aim is to undermine democracy in the USA and of course in Europe. Putins narrative is “western democratic decay, failure of western democracy and the decline of the liberal national order” which Trump ably abetted during his tenure. Domestic politics as we can see just from this thread have become deadlocked, divided and violent and racist. All assisted by Trumps rhetoric and policies. This plays right into the hands of both Putin and Xi who are able to use this in their domestic propaganda.

The democratic western world were appalled at Trumps foreign policy throughout his presidency and fervently hope not to repeat the experience. A report by analyst Jonathan Kirshner described Trumps foreign policy as “shortsighted, transactional, mercurial, boorish, personalise and profoundly illiberal.

Reading some comments here has me despairing. Not all politicians lie. Some avoid a straight answer to avoid committing their party to policies not yet determined.

I'd like to know why people hate Trump so much. He is well liked by the Black working class communities. Yes, he might be arrogant but that's why he a billionaire. Quiet insecure people rarely get to his level in life. I think too any people watch the MSM in the States rather than doing any research themselves. That would be too hard.

I think everyone might find this short R4 profile of the New York State prosecutor very valuable indeed: I've just listened. He's quite a guy" black, brought up in Harlem, no political affiliations, brought up by social workers, clearly well respected and more important perhaps in this world lacking integrity, totally squeaky clean. (they did try hard to find otherwise for a fair report!)..despite being stopped/arrested at gunpoint as a child 3 times by police, black and suspected of drugs.

but a huge % of democrat support comes from those communities and always did. How do you think they get the popular vote figures they do?

Remember in the 2016 elections Trump actually got less votes numerically than Clinton. It it was the voting system gave him the presidency.

Reading an article in the FT many legals are saying that there is very little of substance in the allegations against Trump. All the publicity of the court case is likely to increase his popularity and there is a real prospect of him becoming President again.

There is no doubt he is a Marmite character, you love him or hate him, his support comes from the rich or poor, White, Hispanic and Black communities. It’s the urban, liberal, democrats that hate him.

What worries me most is that despite it being painfully clear to anyone with more than a couple of brain cells that the man is rotten to the core, and is a narcissistic, lying megalomaniac, (IMHO) he still attracts such significant support from a large section of the American populace. Land of the free? Champion of Democracy? Oh really?.. and please don't get me started about gun laws..

So while you might think you’re just giving your opinion on a little social media site aimed at grannies, you would do well to remember how social media works. Endorsements of misinformation on Social Media contributes to the society we live in, whether its on Twitter or Gransnet. By saying “All politicians support lies” you are buying into the misinformation spread by people who either don’t know much about politics or are intentionally trying to undermine all politicians.

My words don’t have “consequences “ for anyone it’s simply my opinion. On an anonymous forum you are free to agree or disagree without consequences.

It is no more 'unbelievable' that millions still support Trump. In the UK Boris Johnson still has many supporters despite more and more evidence that he is a compulsive liar and cheat.

I’m afraid his supporters will always believe that charges against him are all ‘trumped up’ by evil leftie/commie elements.
