Just watching the coronation- like show that is Donald Trump landing in his magic flying machine to face charges in New York. All the prayers, all the wringing of hands which I believe is extremely dangerous to all of us because he is standing to be a future leader of the ‘free’ haha world. What is wrong with these people ? How can they think that a man with his history can be some sort of latter day messiah? We laugh but he poses a real threat to all of us in the future if he gets away with it.

As an american I can tell you I had nothing but stress and anxiety when Trump was president . I would have more if DeSantis, governor of Florida, wins. Right now he has banned books, made it a right to open carry guns without a permit and restricted abortions . He is another narcissist but smarter than Trump. Biden has spent a lot of time undoing what Trump did and I only care about a person’s mind not their age. It’s all a game and until Trump our country was never divided like this . The politicians care more about getting revenge than working for the people.

I just don’t understand how black people or women can vote for trump as he is such a racist and misogynist
I used to think he just had the votes of the rednecks but I was wrong

He’s the best president US has had.
The truth about the stolen election will come out
As will the truth about Biden’s nefarious dealings with China
Trump has gone after the child & organ traffickers How can that be wrong ????

Of course there must be some decent americans somewhere. We just get shown the totally despicable lying cheating dishonest types like Trump and his followers. What a load of appalling leaders around the world, Trump Putin etc and Boris Johnson. They would have difficulty in deciding who is the least truthful or believeable or safe between the lot of them. Why is anyone prepared to vote for someone that we know is a liar. You cant believe a word they say so why would you trust them?

Lived in the US for a while and was amazed by a couple of people I knew who were kind, sensible, good hearted, community spirited and religious people who thought he was the best ever and was doing a great job for the USA - truly scary.

We listened to Trump’s speech to his supporters and both of us had to admit he is a really good speaker. He had a knack for rousing emotion. Just like someone in Germany in the 1930s. I think he goes with the idea that if you are telling lies, make them whoppers because then they are more believable.

I listened to it too, but I found myself noticing all his voice coached tricks rather than what he was saying. He alternates between a ‘sincere’ statement and a sneering one, uses the timbre of his voice to disguise the battering ram of what he is saying, and stares most intently when he knows he is lying. It’s so obvious when you look for it that it completely distracts you.

Must watch for that.

I find it difficult to look at him!
Must try harder.

I wish they had someone stronger than Biden to oppose him. It is laughable that a big country full of talented people should have two old, old men in positions of power/ potential power.

Yes, Biden is an extremely experienced politician but he is showing his age.

I've always found it amazing that, in a country of 335+ million people, there are so few good candidates.

it can be argued that the originators of the major religions were mad, you can't rise from the dead, you can't fly to heaven in a chariot, you reincarnate as a worm,if you've done something bad in this life, the list could go on............

In most elections the people are mostly voting against a party not necessarily for a party

Apparently there are 34 felony charges of business fraud.

How could people vote for Trump? Well how could they vote for a serial liar like Johnson. It's really scary when certain people seem to have the knack of attracting devotees to them. The US has the potential for a serious conflagration, or am I being too pessimistic?

Apparently the republicans are still (say 95%) not willing to speak up against Trump because he has total control of the core base.

This core base seem to unquestionably believe everything Trump says and why they still believe that the election was won by trump. Trumps ability to gaslight his base is something I find profoundly worrying.

Interesting and definitely not my opinion based on our last election.

The majority of Trump supported candidates lost either in primaries or in the midterm election. He still has a base. Yes, but it is smaller than it used to be. When he announced that he will run for President, even Fox News mostly ignored it.

On the other hand, many of the Democrats running as socialists lost to more moderate candidates, which is also why we have Biden.

I do not know of of anyone who wants to live in such a divided society. Most of us want to get along and compromise. I can't see that happening again in my lifetime.

That was from CNN - I watched it yesterday.

We have evangelicals in the U.K. - I used to work with one - he was very reactionary, intolerant and most unpleasant.

Bingo
It is what Trump represents- not the person itself

It’s not Donald we have to be worried about, Ron DeSantis ( if he runs) is the scary one.

There it is. Glad you are aware!

Trump is the evil we know. DeSantis will make Trump look like childplay.

Aveline Wed 05-Apr-23 19:44:57

I find Trump's popularity unfathomable. How stupid can his supporters be?! We met some Americans recently and had a long discussion with them. They were absolutely torn. They said that there are good people in the Republicans and good people in the Democrats but neither party is good or worth supporting. These were educated and employed people in their late fifties.
Meanwhile, I always liked Hilary Clinton.

I sometimes wonder if the bible read in the USA is different to ours, if not how can the so called bible belt support Donald Trump?

The 'Bible Belt' is basically Evangelical Southern Baptist and Church of Christ - not Catholic or other UK denominations, generally.

Totally different reading to the Bible.

Hithere Wed 05-Apr-23 19:31:23

Go down the rabbit hole with Brittany dawn- that's the kind of Christianity that is so dangerous

HousePlantQueen - so did I- both died last year- but their 'belief' in Trump was just sickening. The same ones who told us that Obama was 'an Al-Quaida' plant and spy- and expressed vile racism against him.

MayBee70 Wed 05-Apr-23 18:46:54

I read today that Trump is just completely dominating the news in America to the detriment of everything else. And that it doesn’t matter what he is accused of or found guilty of because his supporters know what he’s like and don’t care. Any publicity, no matter how bad, suits him. He seems to stand for Jesus and family values. How or why is beyond me.
