Hello 👋
Just that. A straw poll.
It would be interesting to see the lay of the land with this.
See how it goes…

Meh to the monarchy, yay to the ceremonials. I’m very partial to a bit of pomp and ceremony, and it’s any excuse for a family get-together here. We’re having afternoon tea type refeshments and fizz, no doubt there’ll be a quiz. And a designated corner with egg sarnies and squash for our anti monarchists. Hoping for good weather so the grandsons can get out in the garden instead of wreaking havoc upstairs. The TV will be on so I’m guessing some of us will be watching the best bits.

That sounds lovely.
I’m a bit like you, I’m definitely a traditionalist, but have very little time for the RF

Republic have written a letter to BBC about its bias reporting and coverage of royals. The BBC is meant to be a public broadcaster not a state broadcaster. BBC does what the Palace wants and what to show what not to. Republic wants and even coverage showing republican viewpoints as well. Polling shows less people interested in a monarchy with only 15% interested in coronation. Republic want a meeting with the BBC to discuss their views. If not they will report to offcom The Gauardian has picked up this and is the only paper to do in depth investigation into royals one piece recently about the art they were given by Dali that turned up in Philips collection amongst other things the royals have kept for themselves.

Nay, not interested. We managed to get by without watching the Jubilee celebrations or the late Queen's funeral, so quite happy not to watch the coronation either.

Nay.

I have a question, is the long range weather forecast promising for a dry day ?

Grany Sun 16-Apr-23 13:12:53

Sky new asked for questions you like to ask ahead of the Coronation I don't think they got the answers they were looking.
The whole thing is indecent and inappropriate.
This proves that the royals should not exhibit such out of age traditions in very difficult times for the English people.
Awful royals!

Why is this happening? It’s a wast of money, I assume the recent youGov poll is accurate in that by far the majority are either uninterested or don’t care. What is the point of this antiquated pomp and ceremony?

Why in 2023 do we still automatically choose an unelected unaccountable head of state by birth order?

Why are you insulting us all by reporting on this farce?

Molly That always makes me feel I should go, it’s only a half hour train journey got me and not across the world ( but I won’t).

Nothing to do with the Coronation, but I often find that, with places close by. E.g.
we’ve been to London more often than the Lake District; several hours v 40 minutes.

Having just done a cruise, where most guests were American, it was interesting to hear that many of them were planning to watch the coronation, and in some cases actually be over here for the ‘historic occasion’.
Each to their own.

wicklowwinnie Fri 14-Apr-23 21:15:50

Mine is definitely a Nay.
I have heard that for so many people, including me, Royalty finished with the Queen's death.

Grandmabatty Thu 13-Apr-23 08:08:34

I might but purely for historical curiosity and the outfits! I'll dip in and out with the sound muted as I'm not fond of obsequious royal narrators, all breathlessness and awe. The day Charles and Diana married my now exh and I climbed a local hill and had a lovely day out. If the weather is nice on coronation day, I'll probably be in the garden.

SophiaCharm1 Thu 13-Apr-23 03:04:40

I'm more interested in celebrating the Summer Solstice. I am from the U.S. and plan to visit family in Suffolk. As much as I would love to stay a few days in Bath and go to Avebury, Stonehenge and Glastonbury, it is unlikely I can do this year. Any ideas for a nice place to celebrate around Suffolk?

Hell Yay

The country was in a mess all those years ago when Ted Heath was in charge. We left, couldn’t stand it one moment longer. Nothing changes. It was in a mess at the time of the plague and the Fire of London in the 17th century. It was in a mess at the time of Jack the Ripper with poverty and crime. It was in a mess during the 2 nd World War and immediately afterwards.

Mollygo Tue 11-Apr-23 23:20:21

Eloethan, I agree about the need to look after our country and its people, but do you really believe that everyone would rush to give the money they will spend in the Coronation to contribute to looking after those things you mention?

Eloethan Tue 11-Apr-23 22:38:52

Nay.

The country is in a mess - our health service is falling apart, our roads are falling apart, our rivers are full of sewage, our essential workers are struggling to keep a roof over their heads ....... the list is endless. Why on earth are we spending so much time and money glorifying an ordinary person? This isn't the time for pointless ceremonies. It's the time to look after our country and its people.

volver3 Tue 11-Apr-23 20:04:14

I expect so. Hope somebody arranges to sing him "Happy Birthday".

Callistemon21 Tue 11-Apr-23 20:01:36

All being well, I expect Sir David Attenborough will be at the Coronation too.

volver3 Tue 11-Apr-23 19:55:01

I've just read that May 8th is Sir David Attenborough's 97th birthday.

Now there's a reason for a party.

Grany Tue 11-Apr-23 19:40:23

"The more I learn, the more I think this whole institution needs to be done away with."

@MarinaPurkiss slams the monarchy: "It perpetuates elitism, inequality," adding that "it belongs to the story books."

Yes, it would be my idea of hell too Kate
And what about toilet facilities? 🙀

Portaloos everywhere, I would think, as for the queue to see the Queen lying in state.
