Hello 👋
Just that. A straw poll.
It would be interesting to see the lay of the land with this.
See how it goes…

FannyCornforth Sat 08-Apr-23 12:22:59

I’ll start

Meh, with Nay tendencies

Blondiescot Sat 08-Apr-23 12:24:30

Meh with Nay tendencies here too.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 08-Apr-23 12:24:48

Yeh

But then again I am a monarchist.

Ilovecheese Sat 08-Apr-23 12:25:03

Meh with possible yay tendencies

JaneJudge Sat 08-Apr-23 12:29:23

As I said on the other thread I'm a hypocritical nay who is glad to have a day off work smile

winterwhite Sat 08-Apr-23 12:32:41

But what is the question?? Whether we should have monarchs? Whether, if we do, they should be crowned? Whether coronations should be widely celebrated?

My guess is that you will have equal yays and nays for the first and very largely nays for the third. The second is a bit of a non question but that's what the OP asks.

Galaxy Sat 08-Apr-23 12:39:10

Nay

Calendargirl Sat 08-Apr-23 12:41:35

Yay.

silverlining48 Sat 08-Apr-23 12:42:17

Meh too

It was just to ascertain people’s gut reaction to all things Charles / Coronation - not the finer points and nuances, we have many threads like that

twinnytwin Sat 08-Apr-23 12:45:21

Yay, yay, yay

volver3 Sat 08-Apr-23 12:49:15

So nay that I can't even believe I'm taking the time to post.

LadyHonoriaDedlock Sat 08-Apr-23 12:52:55

Lifelong republican so would normally avoid it like the plague and find a reason to be out of the country or at least quietly make my way somewhere very remote, as I have consistently done for royal weddings and funerals all my adult life. I haven't begrudged anybody else their enjoyment however.

Life is a strange thing and you never know what may turn up, so on this occasion I am reserving the right to return to this thread nearer the time.

Ailidh Sat 08-Apr-23 12:57:09

Yay, with mehish tendencies.

I'm a mild monarchist, love ceremonial, and will watch on the actual coronation day but am not remotely interested in local street parties or coronation crafts for the old folk!

Gillycats Sat 08-Apr-23 12:59:10

Yay. Huge royal families fan.

tanith Sat 08-Apr-23 13:05:29

I’ll be visiting family abroad so will miss the whole thing which is fine by me.

Casdon Sat 08-Apr-23 13:06:35

Meh.
If it’s a nice day I’ll be out in the garden, and I’ll watch the highlights on the news later.

Thank you for saying it all for me. Just how I feel, too.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 08-Apr-23 13:11:11

A big YAY.

Juliet27 Sat 08-Apr-23 13:11:13

Saying it for me too Ailidh.

MiniMoon Sat 08-Apr-23 13:13:16

Yay all the way. 🤴👸

My parents spent 2 years in Turkey in the late 70's. My Dad said the thing he missed most was what the Royal family were doing. 🙂

Parsley3 Sat 08-Apr-23 13:16:37

Meh from me. No street parties organised near me either.

merlotgran Sat 08-Apr-23 13:27:04

It’s a Yay from me.

Looking forward to it.

Riverwalk Sat 08-Apr-23 13:32:17

I'm meh with yay tendencies.

I'm not a royalist but go along with the 'historic moment' vibe . Won't be glued to the TV for the duration just the interesting bits, as with the weddings and funerals.

My friend and I both live about 2 miles from the Palace & Westminster and we incorporate national events into our walks. So if there's anything major going on, Brexit, royal events, PM resignations etc we head on down to College Green, Downing Street, The Mall, etc on a recce beforehand.

For the Queen's funeral we went a few days before and there were people already camping out, grandstands being assembled and Portaloos being unloaded.

I enjoy it all! smile
