Hello 👋
Just that. A straw poll.
It would be interesting to see the lay of the land with this.
See how it goes…

Yes, it would be my idea of hell too Kate
And what about toilet facilities? 🙀

Kate1949 Mon 10-Apr-23 11:48:48

I can understand that Fanny. We're all different.

Grany Mon 10-Apr-23 11:44:19

RF not elected we don't have a proper democracy Spend a fortune on them. They don't work hard lazy, lets elect a Head if State who will

BrightandBreezy Mon 10-Apr-23 11:24:46

Yay with meh tendancies. Will watch the coronation itself. I was aged one last time and I don't suppose there will be another in my lifetime. A. historic occasion. But meh to spending the whole long weekend tuning in and meh to street parties ext.

Paddyann and Kate
I imagine (I don’t know) that it’s more of a camaraderie, getting out, dressing up and having fun thing.
A bit like those Cliff and Daniel O’Donnell super fans.
Just a break from the monotony, a hobby really.
I doubt if those flag wavers really do worship at the feet of the RF.

Kate1949 Mon 10-Apr-23 11:15:06

I don't get that 'huge royal fans' either paddyann. Why? As for camping out on the streets - bizarre. However, each to their own

paddyann54 Mon 10-Apr-23 11:05:58

I really would love some who say they are "huge royal fans" to tell me why? I can understand being a fan of an actor or singer who has massive talent and WORKS to show that talent off and earn his/her fortune ,
A fan of people who have never done a hard days work in their lives and spend the countries money as if its their own piggy bank ,while expecting "respect" for doing it...AND lining up the next generations to be treated the same?
I say wheres a guillotine when you need one? JOKE !! Honestly though the French had the right idea getting rid of parasites centuries ago.might not go as far as chopping off their heads but I'm sure there are humane ways of getting rid of them and letting them fund their own extravagant lifestyles

A question was asked on tv last night about whether other royal families, primarily European, have similar flamboyant coronations (and other similar occasions), as we do and the answer was no. Yes despite huge cost to us we ‘do’ a good show but are not in competition with anyone but ourselves.
European royals lead more normal lives with some scandi royalty even cycling or using the buses 🚌 . Good for them.

Could it be because you have an Established Church in England? Therefore the monarch traditionally has a religious ceremony to confirm their position as Head of State and of Supreme Governor of the Church of England.

To me it has nothing to do with "we do these things so well" or "it will bring in more money than it costs" . It just not a good look in my opinion. Many people are really struggling to get by. Is the thinking that putting on this "show" will
help them?

Newquay Mon 10-Apr-23 10:00:18

I’m no monarchist but we do do ceremony well don’t we? Just wish Charles would put his hand into (his apparently very deep) pocket and pay for it all himself!

Meh. Not very many Canadians interested to be honest. I'm sure the highlights will be on the news, but no holiday here.

While I enjoy a good pomp and ceremony, I really don't believe that some are chosen to rule over others by a higher power and bloodline. I did respect the Queen though, for her dedication and good works.

nanna8 Mon 10-Apr-23 00:49:46

I like a good show so I will definitely be watching and thinking of all those historical Kings and Queens and how nothing much changes even though we think it does. As far as I’m concerned he is a foreign monarch ,nothing much to do with us but I like all the pomp and ceremony.

It’s ok to get grumpy when your choice doesn’t win, with a monarchy we don’t get a choice.

But would everyone vote for a republic? Would you accept the outcome if the majority voted for the monarchy?

Grantanow Sun 09-Apr-23 23:20:07

Far more important things to worry about than the Coronation - the cost of living and the abysmal state of the NHS, just two out of many UK failings. As far as I can see it's bread and circuses to keep the plebs diverted from all the problems. Meh!

Mollygo Sun 09-Apr-23 13:43:10

But V3, you always get so grumpy when your result isn’t the one chosen. Quel dommage!

volver3 Sun 09-Apr-23 11:33:13

Ah, c'est ennuyant, je suis desolee. Quel domage. (Accents not working, sorry)

Let's not bother with democracy, somebody will just sulk.

Mollygo Sun 09-Apr-23 11:29:23

V3 I think we’re all capable of deciding anything, but the ensuing sulking when your group doesn’t win QED Brexit, Scotland independence, etc. is so ennuyant!

The Guardian’s Cost of the crown series is an investigation into the finances and private wealth of the British royal family – and the vast apparatus of secrecy that obscures these from the public

We elect our PM why not our Head of State.

Why did Charles refuse to pay inheritance tax £100 million on pointless coronation. And £8 million on pictures of King. All in a Cost of living crisis

LizzieDrip Sun 09-Apr-23 10:11:25

Meh with nay tendencies.

Kate1949 Sun 09-Apr-23 09:45:33

No interest here. We won't be watching.
