Hello šŸ‘‹
Just that. A straw poll.
It would be interesting to see the lay of the land with this.
See how it goes…

Whitewave, that’s the way all violent protestors should be treated, Quiet protest fine, our democratic right. Alarms to scare the horses, all the risks they present to ordinary people, no way, in future I hope that all protestors are treated the same, no more glueing hands to roads, stopping people earning a living. No more tearing down statues. Police should move in straight away at such behaviour.
Gloria, why watch it, Kate and William were happy and dignified and it was all truly magnificent. You see what you wanted to obviously.
Anyone not wanting to watch it, shops and restaurants and parks were open, why attend.
If you really think we are worse tgan Russia, you could always try it out, it’s laughable.
Why do people leave their rubbish I don’t know, but when was the last time or only time you heard of anyone fined fir dropping litter.

CNN reporting that the police in the U.K. were acting as if they were in a police state.

ā€œIt is something you would expect to see in Moscow, not Londonā€

Interesting, wasn't it?

London CNN
—
"London’s Metropolitan Police said it made 52 arrests during the coronation of King Charles III on Saturday, as the force faces growing scrutiny over its attitude toward anti-monarchy demonstrators.

Thousands gathered in central London on Saturday to celebrate the once-in-a-generation occasion. But it also drew demonstrators, with protesters wearing yellow T-shirts booing and shouting ā€œNot My Kingā€ throughout the morning.

Republic, Britain’s largest anti-monarchy group, told CNN that police – without providing any reason – arrested organizers of the anti-monarchy protest.

At around 7 a.m. (2 a.m. ET) police stopped six of Republic’s organizers and told them they were detaining and searching them, Republic director Harry Stratton told CNN at the protest.

Graham Smith, the chief executive of Republic, was among those detained, according to a video shared by the Alliance of European Republican Movements.

Stratton said that when the organizers asked police why they were being detained, they were told officers ā€œwould figure it outā€ after they had searched the anti-monarchy protesters. After searching them, police told the six organizers they were arresting them and seizing hundreds of their placards carrying the slogan ā€œNot My King.ā€

ā€œThey didn’t say why they were arresting them. They didn’t tell them or us where they were taking them. It really is like something out of a police state,ā€ Stratton said.

ā€œI think people are quite perturbed by the police reaction. But the crowd reaction to us has been overwhelmingly friendly,ā€ he added.

The group posted on Twitter Saturday, commenting: ā€œSo much for the right to peaceful protest.ā€

Sadly it's always the same with music festivals too.

Norah Sun 07-May-23 14:39:06

Sadly a large amount of rubbish left behind.
Such a waste of resources in time and money.

Smileless2012 Sun 07-May-23 14:17:18

Sounds as if you might have enjoyed it if you'd watched more Glorianny.

Glorianny

Did anyone else think yesterday's events resembled a big society wedding?
Bride and groom (King andQueen) looked uncomfortable in their outfits and were relieved when it was over.
Best Man and Chief Bridesmaid (Will and Kate) Knew they looked ridiculously over dressed, but had to wear what they were told.
Anne was a cross between the girl who wouldn't be a bridesmaid, and insisted she could wear jodhpurs and bring her horse, and the woman with the silliest hat.
The black sheep of the family slipped in and out quietly (Harry)

I’m flabbergasted that you even watched it Glorianny, let alone paid such attention.

It was on the newsCasdon you really couldn't escape it completely.
It was quite funny maybe I should have watched more.

Littering seems to be something many Brits are happy to accept. We have lost the will to address it judging by the persistence of it.

Silly to compare a woman age 41 with a woman age 75

Are you talking to me?

Yammy Sun 07-May-23 13:00:13

I thought they both looked very apprehensive probably Charles the most. Just what we would all probably look like in our 70s too old to be taking on such an onerous role.
I wish them luck.

If protestors had left this kind of disgustin rubbish behind, they would be 'hung drawn and quartered' and quite rightly so. But Royalists Subjects, oh no!

Some six tons were left behind during just one night of the ER Trafalgar Square protest, Nickie Aiken said (pictured, the scene at the Trafalgar Square protests in October)

ā€˜Them’ - KC and QC

FannyCornforth Sun 07-May-23 12:53:27

I don’t think that Kate ā€˜thought that she was overdressed and had to wear it’ Glorianny
She was absolutely loving every moment of it! šŸ˜
The head dress was totally her idea.
I’ve read that there was a ā€˜tiara ban’ so she got around it very well.
Others have said that W & K came dangerously close to upstaging them.
(I wish Joseanne was here, she loved talking about the Royals and clothes sad)

Mollygo Sun 07-May-23 12:46:58

Not surprised at all Casdon. You can’t comment pleasantly or otherwise if you haven’t watched.
The comments are just as expected.

They are cousins of the late Queen, we don’t see or hear anything about them, they have been on that balcony for so
many years understandably why they were yesterday . They can’t be counted as working royals

Calendargirl Sun 07-May-23 12:31:31

The Kents and the Gloucesters are part of the ā€˜old school’ of Royals, I don’t think they carry out many duties now.

I’m sure the Coronation will be their swan song, and they will quietly fade into the background now, apart from a few charity patronages which Annie has commented on.

Smileless2012 Sun 07-May-23 12:23:10

No. I thought Charles looked more overwhelmed then pensive during the ceremony; Camilla looked a little more relaxed. William and Kate looked splendid as did Anne and our new King and Queen looked very happy and relaxed on the balcony.

A great day.

The Duke of Kent and Duke of Gloucester don’t work now, possibly they are patrons of some charities , their wives are not working royals.

Aveline Sun 07-May-23 11:28:57

I'm sure it would be done tactfully and kindly. All the ancient retainers would be glad of a break too.
On another note I see that lady Susan Hussay was invited to the coronation.

Anniebach Sun 07-May-23 10:51:51

Only one Kent and he had a stroke . It must be difficult to tell
an aged relative ā€˜your out’

Aveline Sun 07-May-23 10:39:49

The Kents and Gloucesters are very elderly and can be retired. That would leave Charles, Camilla, William, Catherine, Anne and the Edinburghs. That would be fine.

Anniebach Sun 07-May-23 10:34:32

Yes, but who should go ?
