Even more revelations about the SNP today

Police have arrested Colin Beattie, treasurer of the SNP today. Peter Murrell is still under police investigation, the unknown provenance of a £110,000 campervan parked up at Nicola Sturgeon's mother in law's driveway and now the treasurer has been arrested. What on earth is going on within the SNP? Are they trying to emulate Boris?

M0nica

Volver re your last quote from Andrew Neil's article. Isn't it also a case of unthinking prejudice. Because you do not like someone then you automatically assume that anything they write is rubbish.

Now you have read more of the article and found him say something you do agree with, how about going back to the beginning of the article and reading the whole thing with an open mind - and approach anything else he writes in future with an open mind. He will, no doubt, continue to write things you do not agree, with good reason, but an open mind brings many pleasant surprises.

Hear, hear M0nica!

Neil was summarily dismissed until “Ooh look! Here’s something we agree with! “

Aveline Sat 22-Apr-23 15:31:33

So he's biased and you're not Volver?

volver3 Sat 22-Apr-23 14:50:43

No, I actually think that Neil gets to the root of questions and knows how to make a point, but he is biased. He presents things in a way that he knows will lead other biased people to agree with him. So him reporting in a paper that is biased against the SNP? What can I say...?

So, for instance the ferries thing is a disaster - what were they thinking? The same as the people in charge of HS2 were thinking, I guess. I don't agree with him that we have a "high tax economy" that will discourage growth. I think we all pay more taxes and that is what sensible societies do. His comment about the NHS? No strikes here yet, I believe, and shorter waiting times that in England. He didn't mention that, did he?

So don't patronise me with suggestions I have should have an open mind. I can recognise his propaganda when I see it.

I think it's quite sweet that people think they are unveiling some big secret and crowing that fewer than half the population currently support independence.

Do you all think we haven't noticed? 😏

No, it's just that some of us had been chatting about the importance of having an understanding of mathematics on another thread.

No crowing at all, just pointing out facts.
Why would we crow?
🤔

I have read pretty much the same article in several papers, under several different bylines, over the past few weeks. The Guardian alone has commissioned it from at least three columnists.

It’s just bizarre how much traction writing ‘we will have to wait and see how an electorate we are not part of votes’ has in the media.

volver3 Sat 22-Apr-23 09:18:36

Ohhh, I take it all back.

Also from the same article by Andrew Neil:

For all the SNP’s travails, it’s not in meltdown. Seriously wounded, yes. Past the height of its power, almost certainly. Destined for further decline, probably.

But it’s still likely to remain the largest Scottish party in Holyrood and Westminster for the foreseeable future.

We can all do selective copy and paste.

It's Andrew Neil in the Daily Mail.

'Nuff said.

This has all turned very sour. Again.

Monica was right.

I think it’s quite sweet that you’ve noticed that we’ve noticed that you’ve noticed.
Big change from nearly half though.

What are you unconvinced about Foxygloves?

Foxygloves Fri 21-Apr-23 18:49:14

Why do I remain unconvinced?
PS nobody is "crowing".

Just published?

March 13th.

✂️✂️ It’s this year, just over a month ago. More up to date than some of the polls often used to prove/disprove things posters like or dislike.

More recent than some figures we are quoted, but of course, unacceptable for those wanting a different outcome.
Maybe the fall in popularity could be extrapolated from the discussions surrounding of NS’s resignation and the later publicity relating to the SNP.

OK then.

Someone implied that more than 30% of their countrymen were dumb.

Better?

Dead catting.

Meow. 🙀

YouGov have just published a poll that where 39% were in favour of independence.

Quite recent, then.

Polls would suggest a drop of those in favour of independence in the intervening 8.5 years.

Nearly half isn’t half of anything. It’s always under half or over half however small or large the amount is below or above 50%. The arguments always come from those with the lower amount.

Callistemon21 Fri 21-Apr-23 16:40:41

^Nearly half of the population of Scotland want to be an independent nation. They want to run their own affairs and not have anything dictated to them^

The critical word is nearly

If you hold a referendum and agree to be bound by the majority decision, “nearly half” won’t cut it.

How much of nearly half equals Leave in a Leave/Stay referendum?

44.7% is not 45% either, for anyone keen on Mathematics.
The turnout was high at 84.59%

Anniebach Fri 21-Apr-23 16:38:44

Was the motor home used for canvassing ?

Fitzgraff Fri 21-Apr-23 16:38:39

They could cut back on the cost of an awning for the motorhome by using one of the blue tents.
