Even more revelations about the SNP today

Police have arrested Colin Beattie, treasurer of the SNP today. Peter Murrell is still under police investigation, the unknown provenance of a £110,000 campervan parked up at Nicola Sturgeon's mother in law's driveway and now the treasurer has been arrested. What on earth is going on within the SNP? Are they trying to emulate Boris?

Sago Tue 18-Apr-23 12:50:57

I think Boris could be accused of many things but theft is not me of them.

Nannageorge Tue 18-Apr-23 12:54:48

Innocent until proven guilty. Only investigations at this point in time.

maddyone Tue 18-Apr-23 12:56:15

Interesting! What will happen next?

Iam64 Tue 18-Apr-23 13:24:49

The plot thickens. I always believed Nicola S’s personal life was connected to her sudden resignation

Anniebach Tue 18-Apr-23 13:32:04

I thought the same Iam

That's very true Nannageorge but the old saying "No smoke without fire" keeps popping up in my mind.

Feelingmyage55 Tue 18-Apr-23 13:38:30

Anniebach Nice to see you. How are you?

JenniferEccles Tue 18-Apr-23 13:39:05

Boris Johnson was NOT arrested.

Nannageorge Tue 18-Apr-23 13:47:54

Somehow it makes it feel worse because she's been so condemnatory of others whilst appearing to be so open and transparent herself. It was only last August that she said

“I disagreed with David Cameron, I disagreed with Theresa May, I disagreed with Boris Johnson, but he’s the only one who’s actually disgraced the office of prime minister. The sooner he’s gone, the better.”

And yet here we are just a few months later.

Exactly.

No? Theft by stealth possibly? I'm thinking of all those 'contracts' (during the height of pandemic) that were awarded to his cronies that ultimately provided nothing but loss of taxpayers' money and a lack of investigation into where said monies turned up......

nanna8 Tue 18-Apr-23 14:05:00

But this isn’t about Boris is it ?

Nannageorge Tue 18-Apr-23 15:00:27

No nanna8 this is not about Boris bit it's shocking that Nicola Sturgeon and her party have been consistently condemning of the Tories and their failings, whilst studiously papering over the chasms within the SNP. It's hard to see how they'll ever be able to come back from this with any credibility. And was Yousaf aware of what was going on? If not, why not?

Oreo Tue 18-Apr-23 15:36:28

NS was too secretive about SNP funds, even with those within the party itself hmm seems very fishy.

Aveline Tue 18-Apr-23 15:40:23

It is fishy. I almost feel sorry for Yousaf. What a can of worms he's inherited.

paddyann54 Tue 18-Apr-23 15:52:15

As I predicted when you were all condemning Alex Salmond .this will all go away .
There is a very simple reasone for the motorhome...it was even printed in the Daily Record which is by no means a supporter of the SNP.
The auditor who did the books which were passed/cleared by WM has posted that they were all in order. The "loan" was not uncommon and of no significance.
THIS is a deliberate attempt to bring down the SNP and destroy the chance of Independence .
It wont work because the cause has always been roots based ..much bigger than any one person .So you can all stop rubbing your hands in glee.Your own government has done horrendous things with PUBLIC money and nobody is screaming about that ...I wonder why?
As a supporter who does donate to the party I have no issue with the motorhome ,bought as a safe space on the camaign trail during the covid restrictions ...and not used or indeed of any other expenditure used in the pursuit of Independence .ITS our money to spend and was never "ringfenced " for a campaign to my knowledge. Is it normal for donations to political parties to be ringfenced...maybe we should ask Boris ?

Of course she does have a fishy name🤪

Aveline Tue 18-Apr-23 16:04:01

Of course paddyann knows better than the police and all the accountancy companies who won't touch the SNP accounts job with a bargepole. 😂

livelylady Tue 18-Apr-23 16:06:37

paddyann54
As a SNP member and therefore donator through subscription, I cannot for the life of me see how this motorhome can be a legit expense. Has the 'loan' used to purchase it been repaid to SNP's funds? When we purchased our motorhome we used our own savings, after tax, plus a small bank loan.
Surely any transport for a future Independence campaign should have been leased when needed, at moderate cost? Or is that a too simple solution for our politicians?

Nicenanny3 Tue 18-Apr-23 16:22:01

I don't think Ian Blackford will be shouting out at the next Pmqs about Tory sleaze, perhaps that's why he stepped down. All seems fishy/dodgy to me.

I believe the police are looking into jewellery purchases now. As for the £110,000 luxury motorhome parked outside Nicola Sturgeons mother in laws, pull the other one it's got bells on 😊

Surely the SNP treasurer if all was above board would know where the £600,000 had disappeared to.

volver3 Tue 18-Apr-23 16:37:00

Seems fishy...

No smoke without fire...

Jokes about their names FGS...

I can hear the wolves howling from here.

None of you know what's going on but you love a good scandal, eh?

Aveline Tue 18-Apr-23 16:37:54

😂😂😂

Daisymae Tue 18-Apr-23 16:42:34

Well obviously something is going on, otherwise the police wouldn't be wasting their time investigating and subsequently arresting public figures. Exactly what remains to be seen but it wouldn't take a giant leap of faith to consider that Nicola Sturgeon's surprise resignation has some connection with these events.

Nannageorge Tue 18-Apr-23 18:26:34

this will all go away Don't think it will for a very long time paddyann, judging from the exodus of SNP members in the past 3 weeks.

None of you know what's going on but you love a good scandal, eh?

It's a national and legal scandal volver not just one that's piqued our interest, but I appreciate that it must smart.
