Even more revelations about the SNP today

Police have arrested Colin Beattie, treasurer of the SNP today. Peter Murrell is still under police investigation, the unknown provenance of a £110,000 campervan parked up at Nicola Sturgeon's mother in law's driveway and now the treasurer has been arrested. What on earth is going on within the SNP? Are they trying to emulate Boris?

As a SNP member and therefore donator through subscription, I cannot for the life of me see how this motorhome can be a legit expense. Has the 'loan' used to purchase it been repaid to SNP's funds? When we purchased our motorhome we used our own savings, after tax, plus a small bank loan.
Surely any transport for a future Independence campaign should have been leased when needed, at moderate cost? Or is that a too simple solution for our politicians?

I had the impression that the motor home had barely been used?

I am always concerned when I hear "No smoke without fire" - we need real evidence, and I would hate to be tried by a juror who took the view that there is no smoke without fire. There are plenty of false or one sided stories going around. We do need to be tried on the basis of fact and the probabilities, and reliable evidence. Innocent until proved guilty is important.

Exactly!!!

Maybe we should get Mickelson on the case?

NanaDana Thu 20-Apr-23 10:03:45

Think I'll wait for the film... or maybe even a "Scots Noir" TV series. Suggestions for the roles of Sturgeon, Murrell and Beattie? Or will it end up being one of those frustrating plots which has a cliff-hanger ending, with no clear resolution, and many questions left unanswered? Only time will tell.

paddyann I suspect that most people don't have a clue who Clerkin is, what he has done in the past or why an extremist would want to take the SNP down. I also suspect that many people have no idea of the timeline of the complaints and just smell blood emanating from those Scots who "got above themselves."

If the police think something is worth investigating, we should all let them get on with it. And we should all remember that doing daft things isn't necessarily illegal.

The photogrpahs of police bringing out boxes of evidence caused great hilarity here.It was the contents of his KITCHEN ,teabags(tetley) and digestive biscuits.
My FB feed was full of folk saying "They can take our teabags but they cant take our freedom"
Like the blue tent in the Murrells garden its pure overkill...according to an SNP friend who is a retired Detective Superintendent .Its just theatre MEANT to unsettle the membership.Doesn't appear to be happening .Numbers are still increasing donations still being made .
Clerkin is as Volver says NOT a member he has long been a thorn in the side of the party as are Alex Salmonds wee offshoot ALBA .He's bitter because the complaints about him were allowed to go to court instead of an inhouse investigation ...you know like the tories have about all manner of bad behaviour !

“THIS is a deliberate attempt to bring down the SNP and destroy the chance of Independence.”
Paddyann - do you not realise that it was the SNP’s own members who first raised concerns and contacted police.

Possibly some of the more recently joined SNP members?
Maybe the SNP is being infiltrated by those not willing to simply enjoy V3’s imaginings, but who want to take a more active part in the unveiling.

Aveline Thu 20-Apr-23 08:59:22

mcss joined them again? I thought you said you'd joined last week.

multicolourswapshop Thu 20-Apr-23 08:58:07

liljan I totally agree with you folk trying to scupper the SNP I joined yesterday to show my confidence in them numbers will start to improve you mark my words

volver3 Thu 20-Apr-23 08:49:19

Sean Clerkin is not an SNP member.

Scottish politics is more complicated than many of you imagine. 🙄

Will Nicola be arrested today ?
That’s going to upset a lot of people 😥
They aren’t my tears. 😉

Please stop me thinking of him also Peter Murrell as large pink jellybabies. Unkind, yeah, but once DP had said it I can’t unthink it.

Colin Beattie has stepped away from being SNP Treasurer whilst the investigation continues.

Resigned actually.
Distanced himself might be closer to the truth.

Please stop me thinking of him as Colin From Accounts

i wonder who audits the auditors who audit the auditors . . .
iyswim.

The buck stops with them!!
Or perhaps the Chancellor of the Exchequer?

Iam64 Wed 19-Apr-23 18:49:56

Ahem, it’s a while since I was involved in dawn swoops and then only in England. My memory is arrests at 8 am weren’t linked to flight risks but to the hours available to question the suspect
Get that, suspect rather than helping with enquiries

volver with your auditing experience maybe you could offer to do the SNP's accounts. Or are they maybe a tad more complex and larger than the charity account you do?

I would have thought the auditors should have given enough notice to enable a replacement to be appointed seamlessly, but what do I know? Just doesn't seem very honourable business practice to me.

Good idea.
However, I know someone who audits auditors.
Auditors are not always perfect.

We’re assuming Volver is qualified and has a current and valid practising certificate.

Well there's a lot of assuming going on at the moment, isn't there?

So was that not true Volver? All those people have resigned.
