Is anyone surprised? More sleaze and cronyism exposed around Boris and Co. Sharp should never have been appointed in the first place, and Sunak should have pointed him towards the exit long before now. I agree with Gary Lineker that the appointment of the BBC Chairman should not be within the gift of the sitting Government. The appointment is currently made by the Monarch, on the recommendation of Ministers. This decision must be removed from the political arena, otherwise accusations of partisanship and of bias will always remain. There should be an independent, non-aligned multi party committee, made responsible for recruitment, interview and appointment for this key post. It should be based on professional acumen and on merit, rather than on a "shoe in" via some old boys network.
