Exactly, Maybee. It would seem that Johnson spreads corruption, wherever and whenever.

The BBC chairman should not be selected by the government of the day. Not now, not ever.

Absolutely agree with @GaryLineker

Is there anything or anybody that has anything to do with Johnson that isn’t corrupt?

maddyone Fri 28-Apr-23 15:10:04

Another one bites the dust. He needed to go under the circumstances.

LadyHonoriaDedlock Fri 28-Apr-23 15:04:44

What kept him? He should have gone weeks ago when he was first exposed. What is it with these people? First Raab and now Sharp, hanging on as long as possible.

Why does nobody seem to question why BoZo keeps needing huge loans? He wasn't paid peanuts as PM and he pulls in plenty more from speeches and alleged journalism. How did somebody as obviously hopeless with money as he is ever get to be First Lord of the Treasury?

DamaskRose Fri 28-Apr-23 14:14:19

Nothing honourable about this resignation.

This man should never be in the post anyway! I hate the old boys network so thrilled for once a comeuppance has won. (He should have resigned before now if he had any moral compass). We deserve much much better.

westendgirl Fri 28-Apr-23 13:08:46

An honourable resignation would have happened ages ago.

An honourable resignation to be applauded.

Does no one think he should have been sacked!

NanaDana Fri 28-Apr-23 12:48:47

Is anyone surprised? More sleaze and cronyism exposed around Boris and Co. Sharp should never have been appointed in the first place, and Sunak should have pointed him towards the exit long before now. I agree with Gary Lineker that the appointment of the BBC Chairman should not be within the gift of the sitting Government. The appointment is currently made by the Monarch, on the recommendation of Ministers. This decision must be removed from the political arena, otherwise accusations of partisanship and of bias will always remain. There should be an independent, non-aligned multi party committee, made responsible for recruitment, interview and appointment for this key post. It should be based on professional acumen and on merit, rather than on a "shoe in" via some old boys network.

Oh wow! Can a resignation be honourable when you bribed your way into the position? Isn't that a contradiction? Over 23,000 people signed a petition calling on him to resign. They've probably got another job lined up somewhere for him.

MaizieD Fri 28-Apr-23 12:28:15

This isn't an 'honourable' resignation. He hung on until he couldn't hang on any longer. He should have gone when the conflict of interest was first discovered.

Glad it's been resolved, though.

But his successor will still be a tory appointment, just 'cleaner'. I have no great hopes of a return to the impartiality called for in the BBC charter.

Grantanow Fri 28-Apr-23 12:05:18

An honourable resignation to be applauded.

AGAA4 Fri 28-Apr-23 12:02:15

I'm glad this corruption was uncovered but he has been in post for about two years.

NotSpaghetti Fri 28-Apr-23 11:59:01

Yes. I can't see many people will disagree!

Shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Doodledog Fri 28-Apr-23 11:54:32

It should be automatic that anyone found guilty of not declaring a conflict of interest should have to resign, as well as others implicated in the situation.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 28-Apr-23 11:43:15

Right decision in my opinion.

Wyllow3 Fri 28-Apr-23 11:14:49

Since it has been found there was a conflict of interest.
But he never should have ‘stood up’. A person in his situation would have known not to ‘arrange’ anything for the person he wanted a job from.
I hope we get someone neutral, enthusiastic, as I love my BBC.
