That Douglas Ross does my head in and the conservatives they’ll never get back in not in a million years

volver3 Sun 30-Apr-23 09:38:11

See yon Nicola, she even makes ferries run aground in the Pentland Firth!

I think she started the conflict in Sudan too.

Mind you I don't know much about Sudan, which is why I haven't commented on it.

A good rule of thumb, I reckon, that many could learn from....

More problems with ferries! Run aground after time in the dry dock, all passengers ok thankfully.

Oreo Sun 30-Apr-23 09:31:38

You’re right nanna8 maybe alter that to ‘you can’t argue with somebody who thinks they know everything about everything’ 😂

volver3 Sun 30-Apr-23 09:02:03

nanna8

You can’t argue with someone who knows everything about everything can you ? I made a mistake, it was James VI of Scotland and not the V. Until then they were separate from the rest of the landmass know as England and Wales. Very good at fighting amongst themselves and defending their tribes. And yes, I used to be a history teacher way back when.

Well you can argue with somebody who knows everything, but you have to know something.

The Union of the Crowns was in 1606, 100 years before the Union of Parliaments, which is what we are talking about.

Glad you never taught me history.

nanna8 Scotland has not lost the knack for fighting…. We can but try to broaden the outlook but it’s uphill with some.

Volver 3 don’t think France or Germany is that interested in being told anything at all by the Uk.
Obviously there are discussions on this topic in more depth than poppycock as the dismissal.
Interesting to see that the National Cons Conference is talking about nationhood and the importance of the nation.

Aveline Sun 30-Apr-23 08:23:23

Germany and France have to adhere to laws set by EU. Doesn't seem very independent to me.

volver3 Sun 30-Apr-23 08:06:22

So are you going to alert Germany to the fact that they are neither a nation, nor independent? France will be interested to know they aren't either.

Honestly, what poppycock.

ronib Sun 30-Apr-23 08:02:59

Volver 3 no inaccuracy in saying that there’s a huge difference of opinion in what constitutes an independent nation. For some people, being part of the EU would not imply nationhood and independence. For others, clearly there’s no conflict of interest.
Perfectly accurate.

Thanks Oreo. You’re still allowed an opinion on GN.🤗

And, of course, we are still awaiting a correct definition of the main purpose of the Scottish National Party, if it has changed recently, from those who are better informed than the rest of us elsewhere.
Please.

The SNP is the party of independence. We want Scotland to take her place as an equal, independent country. To be in the global family of nations, playing our part in building a better world." #SNP20

Did I say the comment was wrong?

Just wondering if the poster thought she was being clever and criticising, or maybe telling us all something we didn't know?

volver3 Sun 30-Apr-23 07:29:19

How much misinformation can we get into one thread over one night? Here's a good effort that's for sure.

Not sure what the James V/James I comments are about. We're not taking about Kings and Queens. Especially James I or James V confused

Being a member of the EU doesn't mean you're not independent. Many leavers believed that and look where that's got us.

ronib Sun 30-Apr-23 05:28:37

nanna8 if Scotland achieves independence from the United Kingdom, probably not any day soon, it has the intention of rejoining the European Union. So depending on your point of view, independence in name only?

nanna8 Sun 30-Apr-23 00:41:07

Back to 1600 pre James V, James 1 hey? Hope if and a big if, they get independence it really would be independence and not in name only.

It’s what the SNP are for, they promise referendums to vote to split away from the rest of the UK or to stay in the union.

Tonight's illuminating analysis of the Scottish political landscape comes to you courtesy of Oreo.

hmm

It was all Sturgeon spouted about, well she’s gone now and things won’t be the same for them.Must say I’m glad.

volver3 Sat 29-Apr-23 22:31:01

Looks like you need someone to explain the difference between the SNP and the independence movement.

Again.

Ach, I canna be bothered.

Shetland used to belong to Norway.
Finland used to be part of Russia.
Louisiana used to belong to France.

Just because something is one way today, that doesn't mean it'll stay that way forever.

The way things are going for the SNP it looks like Scotland will be part of the UK forever.😄

Callistemon21 Sat 29-Apr-23 22:10:49

Finland used to be part of Russia.
And before that was part of Sweden for hundreds of years.

It's complicated.

*Volver"- were part of the United Kingdom. Clue is in the name!

volver3 Sat 29-Apr-23 20:05:24

No, I didn't think you did ronib. But some do.

We're already independent from England, seeing as how we're a different country... wink

ronib Sat 29-Apr-23 19:58:07

I didn’t think you were being sarcastic. I must have misinterpreted Nicola Sturgeon’s statements/interviews. Easily done I guess.
