Until then they were separate from the rest of the landmass know as England and Wales. Very good at fighting amongst themselves and defending their tribes. Being a member of the EU doesn't mean you're not independent. Many leavers believed that and look where that's got us.

nanna8 if Scotland achieves independence from the United Kingdom, probably not any day soon, it has the intention of rejoining the European Union. So depending on your point of view, independence in name only?

Back to 1600 pre James V, James 1 hey? Hope if and a big if, they get independence it really would be independence and not in name only.
