That Douglas Ross does my head in and the conservatives they’ll never get back in not in a million years

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 28-Apr-23 18:27:11

Sorry, is that news?

volver3 Fri 28-Apr-23 18:35:00

Well for people in Scotland who know what he's been up to today, it is definitely news.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 28-Apr-23 18:43:03

An explanation would be helpful for the rest of us.

ronib Fri 28-Apr-23 18:56:03

Douglas Ross, Conservative, suggested tactical voting to oust the SNP at the next general election. Rishi Sunak suggested not to do that and that Conservatives should always vote for their own party.

Seems pretty obvious that telling voters to increase the Labour vote if that removes the SNP will result in a Labour victory in Westminster. So a doh moment in politics. Another one.

HousePlantQueen Fri 28-Apr-23 18:57:36

What has the repellent Ross done? Irrespective of his politics, there is something about him.....

Siope Fri 28-Apr-23 18:58:36

Flip flop.

Although I think Sunak and his shambolic ‘sort of, why don’t Scottish journalists know their place, why are you others nasty, sulking now I can’t get what I want, off, on but half-baked, you’re still not just asking what I want, damn your eyes’ press conference was worse

As well as the flip flopping...

He was told off this week by the Presiding Officer for using props at FMQs (yes props - don't ask)

Somebody sent his son a toy gun and had it delivered to the Scottish Parliament, sparking a security scare.

He had a very public "difference of opinion" with Number 10 over who should be at the press conference today.

He said that the SNPs troubles at the moment had crashed the case for independence.

Just a normal week at Scottish Conservative HQ.

Oh and just for good measure...

Last week Stephen Kerr MSP wondered on Twitter if transgenderism was linked to learning difficulties.

Go on tell us, what were the props - I’m imagining him with a sideshow tent on his head acting out a Punch and Judy show with glove puppets from the opposition benches, HIGNFY would have a field day!

volver3 Fri 28-Apr-23 19:55:52

Ach, it wasn't that exciting. It was a photo. But look at his wee face 😏

ronib Fri 28-Apr-23 19:58:41

It’s a photo of the new SNP leader. Something about ferry boats?

volver3 Fri 28-Apr-23 20:03:33

It's a picture of Yousaf at the Ferguson Marine plant when he was transport minister, they are the firm building the ferries (very slowly). I've no idea what he was trying to say, sorry.

ronib Fri 28-Apr-23 20:08:16

£87000 bonuses paid by the government to boat builders for non delivery of two ferry boats which the people living on the Scottish islands would like.

ronib Fri 28-Apr-23 20:08:52

Makes a change from camper vans 😀

‘It could have been me’? (In a parallel universe, obviously).

🤣

paddyann54 Fri 28-Apr-23 23:20:58

meantime in England , one billion pound ship being stripped for parts to repair another billion pound ship while a whole fleet of ships are STILL waiting for propellers 7 years after they should have been at sea.....but but but The Ferry's ....seems you cant see the wood for the trees!!
I suppose it feels different when its the government voted for by England thats wasting your money WE haven'tvoted tories into power since 1955 ..YES that is NINETEEN FIFTY FIVE .
Democracy ? Well its supposed to be .

Callistemon21 Fri 28-Apr-23 23:35:18

I think Gransnetters were advising everyone to use tactical voting at the last election.
There was at least one thread about it.

I suppose it could be used but surely people vote for the party whose policies align most closely with their views?

ronib Sat 29-Apr-23 05:28:03

paddyann54 do you mean The Prince of Wales ship built in Rosyth? That’s Scotland? Don’t think you have given a full picture.
The Prince of Wales is being mended at a cost of £25 million and will still become operational. It’s not unusual, according to one news article for parts to be transferred.
Now back to the ferries - just wondering how the Scottish islanders are coping?

ronib Sat 29-Apr-23 05:31:49

Callistemon21 the view in Scotland seems to be hate this English government, hate the Tories.

Aveline Sat 29-Apr-23 06:41:11

Many people up here hate both current governments. They've both been in power too long and are coming apart very quickly especially in Scotland. Sooner they're both out the better.

volver3 Sat 29-Apr-23 07:51:53

The big thing that will keep the Scottish Tories out of power here is that they dismiss independence out of hand. The other thing is that most people wouldn't trust them with running a tombola, let alone a country.

Like it or not, independence is a huge thing for many people here. It would be impossible for me to vote for a party that tells me "No, you can't have that" because it is so fundamental. The Labour Party under Sarwar seems more viable as a government than the Tories, but they still will not consider independence. They won't even give people the choice, its a flat "no".

While that remains the case, a big chunk of people will never support them.

ronib Sat 29-Apr-23 08:04:10

Volver 3 and the Lib Dems under Alex Cole Hamilton? Are they pro independence?

volver3 Sat 29-Apr-23 08:06:27

No they're not ronib. They're not even on the fence. If they were they'd be an option, much like Labour.
