Conservatives are getting such a beating- no surprises there however.

What is happening where you are?

Nicenanny3 Fri 05-May-23 10:12:21

No results where I live yet in Cheshire.

FannyCornforth Fri 05-May-23 10:15:38

What I did notice FP is that, on the ballot paper, the Tory candidates have called themselves ‘Local Conservatives’ rather than the usual ‘The Conservative Party’.

This is definitely a new thing, they obviously wanted to distance themselves from the government.
How mad is that?

We didn’t have any Green candidates to vote for at all.
I’m in Derby

Fleurpepper Fri 05-May-23 10:17:03

No results yet for me.

Wow FannyC- that is telling!

FannyCornforth Fri 05-May-23 10:17:31

Sorry, Derby didn’t have Green candidates in all wards, including my own.
I voted for 2 Lib Dem’s and 1 Labour. The people who have a high profile and I know do a good job

Witzend Fri 05-May-23 10:18:14

No elections here. I’m watching what’s happening elsewhere, though.

I know! Here’s a screenshot from The Derby Evening Telegraph.
I wonder if it happened in other areas, and whether they are going to stick with the name?

No elections here.

Shinamae Fri 05-May-23 10:30:03

Lib Dems, for North Devon

Mollygo Fri 05-May-23 10:30:12

I think the only amazing thing is where Conservatives have kept their seats.

Louella12 Fri 05-May-23 10:32:25

Let's not get carried away

The Conservatives lost more than 1300 seats in the 2019 local elections.

Four years later they're still here!

Ilovecheese Fri 05-May-23 10:37:58

Still awaiting results

Corbyn was Labour leader and being villified by the media and Brexit wasn't yet done. Different circumstances.

I can't see the tories managing to do anything in the next 12 months to bring themselves back from the brink.

Nicenanny3 Fri 05-May-23 10:46:07

If they manage to Stop The Boats they will.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 05-May-23 10:47:08

No Labour gains, Conservative Councillors that lost their seat are replaced by Independents.

I doubt it, I believe that that are more 'liberal' people on the electoral roll than there are xenophobes and racists.

But as they won't be able to 'stop the boats' it's irrelevant.

rosie1959 Fri 05-May-23 10:53:00

Still awaiting results here but I would be surprised if there is any change from Conservative

Louella12 Fri 05-May-23 10:53:57

I really cannot stand that stop the boats line. It drives me mad.

Blossoming Fri 05-May-23 10:57:27

No results here yet but I am expecting Labour to retain control of the council.

NanaDana Fri 05-May-23 11:02:19

Gateshead didn't start their count until this morning, but it's a Labour stronghold, so I would expect an even bigger swing to them, and for the Liberals to also do well. As regards the Conservative party, I think that they've been writing their own obituary for some time now, and all we've been waiting for is the invitation to the funeral. They're going to find it hard to put even a tiny speck of gloss on this, but that won't stop them from trying. Perhaps too early as yet to make any accurate assessment of what all this might mean in terms of a General Election, but Sunak's description this morning of it being "disappointing" may prove to be a massive understatement. The next few hours will tell.

Wasn’t it Labour who coined the phrase ‘British Jobs for British workers?’
🤣

British jobs for British workers” refers to a set of policies announced by the Prime Minister Gordon Brown, first on 5 June 2007 at the GMB trade union congress in Brighton, and then in September 2007 at the 2007 Trades Union Congress.

Well who knew? Amazing!

Casdon Fri 05-May-23 11:45:43

Is this an attempt at obfuscation Kandinsky, because I’m struggling to see what you think it has to do with the local election results over 15 years after the event, unless you think it’s dumbing down the Labour results maybe?

AGAA4 Fri 05-May-23 12:06:40

No elections here but watching with interest the results coming in.
