Conservatives are getting such a beating- no surprises there however.

What is happening where you are?

Louella12 Fri 05-May-23 12:39:12

Just heard that we're still Conservative here.

Let's not get carried away

The Conservatives lost more than 1300 seats in the 2019 local elections.

Four years later they're still here!

Which contributed towards Johnson’s demise.

Not too sure what your point is, Whitewavemark2!

I'm certain Labour will win the next GE. Almost certain. Neil Kinnock was convinced he was going to win umpteen years ago and that didn't happen.

I would prefer a different leader to Keir though. Just not my cup of tea.

HurdyGurdy Fri 05-May-23 12:34:23

Apparently our count is taking place today, and wasn't overnight.

I suspect we'll still overall be Conservative, but I'm expecting to see more independent Councillors.

We had a choice between LibDem, Tory or Green. No result yet.

FannyCornforth Fri 05-May-23 12:15:46

Has anyone noticed The Conservative Party candidates calling themselves Local Conservatives like they have here?

M0nica Fri 05-May-23 12:12:54

Local council only here. Choice of Lib Dem or Conservative.

Our current Lib Dem member is standing again and should get in with a landslide. She has been like a ball of fire since first elected. She has moved immovable objects, or at least finally got someone to deal with a major problems that the previous lot (Conservatives) had been kicking down the road for years - and that is just for starters

We have a Lib Dem local Council and I expect them to gain eats.

Pittcity Fri 05-May-23 12:10:19

Exactly the same as before here with only about a 3o% turnout. People will still moan about the Council but can't be bothered to vote.

AGAA4 Fri 05-May-23 12:06:40

No elections here but watching with interest the results coming in.

Casdon Fri 05-May-23 11:45:43

Is this an attempt at obfuscation Kandinsky, because I’m struggling to see what you think it has to do with the local election results over 15 years after the event, unless you think it’s dumbing down the Labour results maybe?

Well who knew? Amazing!

*I doubt it, I believe that that are more 'liberal' people on the electoral roll than there are xenophobes and racists*

Wasn’t it Labour who coined the phrase ‘British Jobs for British workers?’
🤣

British jobs for British workers” refers to a set of policies announced by the Prime Minister Gordon Brown, first on 5 June 2007 at the GMB trade union congress in Brighton, and then in September 2007 at the 2007 Trades Union Congress.

Gateshead didn't start their count until this morning, but it's a Labour stronghold, so I would expect an even bigger swing to them, and for the Liberals to also do well. As regards the Conservative party, I think that they've been writing their own obituary for some time now, and all we've been waiting for is the invitation to the funeral. They're going to find it hard to put even a tiny speck of gloss on this, but that won't stop them from trying. Perhaps too early as yet to make any accurate assessment of what all this might mean in terms of a General Election, but Sunak's description this morning of it being "disappointing" may prove to be a massive understatement. The next few hours will tell.

Blossoming Fri 05-May-23 10:57:27

No results here yet but I am expecting Labour to retain control of the council.

Louella12 Fri 05-May-23 10:53:57

I really cannot stand that stop the boats line. It drives me mad.

rosie1959 Fri 05-May-23 10:53:00

Still awaiting results here but I would be surprised if there is any change from Conservative

MaizieD Fri 05-May-23 10:50:45

If they manage to Stop The Boats they will.

I doubt it, I believe that that are more 'liberal' people on the electoral roll than there are xenophobes and racists.

But as they won't be able to 'stop the boats' it's irrelevant.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 05-May-23 10:47:08

No Labour gains, Conservative Councillors that lost their seat are replaced by Independents.

Corbyn was Labour leader and being villified by the media and Brexit wasn't yet done. Different circumstances.

I can't see the tories managing to do anything in the next 12 months to bring themselves back from the brink.

I think the only amazing thing is where Conservatives have kept their seats.

Shinamae Fri 05-May-23 10:30:03

Lib Dems, for North Devon
