Miss Snuffy channelling Russell Crowe.

Interestingly, the Conservative Nation Twitter feed has deleted its live tweets of Starkey’s ranting.

Siope Wed 17-May-23 12:08:10

Today they have the racist David Starkey (obviously I’m most offended by his racism, but the fact that he’s a lazy, tediously conventional historian, given public credibility by media exposure, annoys me too). He spouted his, by now standard offensive inaccurate nonsense, claiming that Black Lives Matter "do not care about black lives", but "the symbolic destruction of white culture” and that the Left "want to replace the Holocaust with slavery in order to wield its legacy as a weapon against Western culture".

Later we have the intellectual and political Pygmy that is Darren Grimes, the failed negotiator David Frost, and Toby Young.

I have the misfortune to slightly know the latter, and I’ve rarely met anyone so pompous and proud of themselves with so little reason.

And he was acting in Gladiator!! grin

Russell Crowe’s a kiwi isn’t he ? I know he has lived a lot of his life in Australia but I think he isn’t a citizen so I was wondering why he would support the ALP ?

Yes, he is.
He's not an Australian citizen although he's lived there most of his life and his face has appeared on the stamps!

But he did back the ALP at the last elections.

Growstuff and WWM - absolutely agree, and in my defence I give you Liz Truss, a graduate of Merton College, Oxford....

Sunak should sack Braverman for her flagrant undermining of his government and warn any other Minister flirting with extreme Right wing movements that his or her job is on the line.

Riverwalk thanks for the mugshots but I was wondering exactly what had been said. Not fully available online at the moment. I found one speaker talking about the role of the family and community in helping new mothers after childbirth. Laura Perrins, I think and she made perfect sense!

I do. The people who applied for training contracts with my firm with degrees from third rate universities. They didn’t get interviews. Law might sound attractive but it’s a hugely oversubscribed profession at graduate level - and a law degree sounds good. Imagine some of the others, which I won’t name as offence would be caused.

What about other fields than law?

You'd find that some graduates from the so-called inferior universities are actually highly employable, especially if they've studied technical subjects at advanced level.

There's an element of snobbery in the employment of graduates. Some employers in some professions assume that graduates from the so-called prestigious universities are better. They look at the institution before the candidate.

Yes and we need look no further afield than Germany to understand how the British snobbery has held our more technical graduate system behind.

The requirement for a good technical degree are usually maths and the sciences. The degree students are eminently employable with openings in many fields at very high salaries. And these degrees are often offered at what was previously technical colleges and now universities - no doubt ones that a law firm would turn up its nose 😄😄😄😄 how very silly it all is, and how amusing.

Still can’t locate the conference speakers for this year in London on YouTube… probably not posted yet? Some speakers from previous events available.

Here are the mugshots

Ww2 do you have any more details on which of SB’s policies have been turned down by the cabinet?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 17-May-23 06:26:53

I read this morning, and find it heartening that the conference was very poorly attended, mostly male and (surprisingly) young.

Braverman is not functioning very well as Home Secretary as almost all of her policy proposals have been turned down by the cabinet. Even by this remarkably right wing government, Bravermans lunacy can’t be stomached.

Callistemon21 Tue 16-May-23 22:48:40

I'm feeling rather sorry for Russell Crowe, having his name brought into this.
He supports the Australian Labour Party.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 16-May-23 20:54:38

To be fair, they have all managed to fit in a spot of breeding along the way, so they're probably OK.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 16-May-23 20:52:54

Hmm - so, GSM, what criteria would you suggest for selecting those who should have the opportunity to gain a degree from those who should not , other than A level or IB results, which we already have ? Worryingly, the subtext of the speech by this Cambridge educated woman appears to suggest that gender might be a consideration, which I find a little offensive as the mother of three graduate women ( and one graduate man). As I have stated elsewhere, one of my children is in the middle if a PhD; it is not my son.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 16-May-23 19:51:02

They just had rubbish grades I expect.

volver3 Tue 16-May-23 19:48:42

Oh dear.

Third rate universities.

Did they not get interviews because they weren't very good, or just because they came from Scumbag College?

I agree that fewer people should go to university. For many it seems to be an experience to which they are entitled - hence we have many graduates of inferior universities and/or with inferior degrees who cannot find employment and will probably never pay off their student loans.

Do you have any evidence for this GSM? Because if you haven't I am afraid it comes across as pure snobbery.

ronib Tue 16-May-23 19:11:30

No that’s a different bunch. This one is definitely in London.

Ashcombe Tue 16-May-23 19:10:03

ronib: I think these shenanigans took place in Bournemouth.
