Just now

Smileless2012 Wed 24-May-23 10:33:56

When a subject's raised that has no relation to the discussion it is a deviation Glorianny.

Smileless2012 Wed 24-May-23 10:31:37

Me too Daddima, did make me laugh though.

VioletSky

Yeah yeah

It's *always" the DILs fault

It's literally everywhere and completely unmissable

I love my daughter in law. She’s a wonderful addition to our family, and most importantly, she makes my son very happy.

Glorianny Wed 24-May-23 10:24:26

Funny on these threads how when you raise a subject that makes people feel uncomfortable they immediately cry "deviation" or resort to criticising grammar.

Here's an interesting little piece debunking some witchcraft myths:

www.english-heritage.org.uk/learn/histories/eight-witchcraft-myths/

Came upon it accidentally just now!

Thats interesting NotSpaghetti the illustration used is of the witches hung in 1650 in Newcastle when 14women and one man were hung for the crime of witchcraft or associated crimes. (One of them for having a witch-name!)
Some of what she says is questionable. Including the bit about there is no evidence that they were herbalists or midwives. Of course there isn't, history is written by men, who in the 15th and 16th centuries were busy making medicine a male profession.
And yes men were hung, but not in so many numbers.

Thank you. I now have that tune stuck in my head!

I don't know what to think

But I believe there is always a reason for all behaviour and I wouldn't cope in that scenario

Many of us wouldn't but we're not actors, used to the limelight. Cameras, flashing lights, speaking to the UN and other audiences is normal in some people's world.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 24-May-23 09:26:40

It sure does Foxy.

Foxygloves Wed 24-May-23 09:26:01

VioletSky

Lol I used the word I meant to use and you have wrongly corrected me

It's a pretty natural and observable phenomena

No it’s not.
Phenomena is * plural*
If you use “it’s a …” you have to use phenomenon

(Life gets tedious, don’t it?)

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 24-May-23 09:25:59

Why would anyone deliberately say ‘a phenomena’, especially a TA?

FannyCornforth Wed 24-May-23 09:23:29

And repetition!

Anniebach Wed 24-May-23 09:22:00

👏

Go to any mother group

Working mums are best! No! Stay at home mums are best!

Breastfeeding is best! No bottle feeding is best!

Baby led weaning is best! No puree food is best!

It's literally everywhere and thoroughly exhausting

How completely irrelevant is this?
(As are the comments about witches/lesbians et al )

Wouldn’t last two seconds on Just a Minute - deviation! grin

Getting furious and taking sides unless you have direct knowledge doesn’t seem particularly helpful.

But the whole point is, we do have a great deal of knowledge about this pair, supplied endlessly by themselves. It is the exploitation of private family matters without substantiation and for money, that incenses so many people.
Wallis Simpson was the scarlet woman partly because the public, unless they had access to foreign news, were generally not aware of Edward V111's unpleasant character. Diana promoted her real and imaginary sufferings to gain sympathy and her son is avidly following her lead. I can't think offhand of any other royals who have openly attacked the family to which they belonged, whilst exploiting the to connection for fame. Sarah Ferguson has never criticised them openly, despite her disastrous financial dealings, partly due to a poor divorce. settlement.

Anniebach Wed 24-May-23 08:49:13

Harry is in shock , in his late thirties and someone says ‘no’ to
him

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 24-May-23 08:48:25

What makes you think that many women accused of witchcraft were probably lesbians and were progressive VS?

NotSpaghetti Wed 24-May-23 08:09:35

VioletSky Wed 24-May-23 07:48:00

The estimated amount of women killed as witches is crazy

Their crime was usually any deviation from women's accepted roles

Many were probably lesbians

We ought to drop the negative connotations people assigned to vilify women who were actually progressive in their time

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 24-May-23 07:41:22

Re witches : in East Kent they were ( mostly) subjected to the ducking stool. Burning was reserved for heretics - Protestant sometimes, Roman Catholic sometimes.

Oreo Tue 23-May-23 21:05:02

What she sounds like Callistemon is a typical actor, especially a US one, gushing a real load of old cobblers.

Oreo Tue 23-May-23 21:02:54

It’s not just his family tho, he has publicly rejected his own country too, and if he thinks the US is a better one then he’s deluded.
Yeah, that is my take on it Iam64 along with many others I bet, and of course it’s ok that you don’t share it.

Callistemon21 Tue 23-May-23 21:01:11

I don't dislike either of them. I don't know them.
I might not like some of the things they've said.

But if you have a powerful voice, have won an award as a Woman of Vision, then use it to help others, don't make a speech which is basically jargon, soundbites and just confusing.

Iam64 Tue 23-May-23 20:53:29

Oreo, that’s your take on H and M. I don’t share it but that’s ok . Where I do struggle is the level of anger directed at these two. The Estrangement threads seem largely used by a group of posters, rarely do people without direct experience get involved. Estrangement is always heart breaking. Getting furious and taking sides unless you have direct knowledge doesn’t seem particularly helpful
