2 hour chase through New York, they were in a taxi ! ! ! !

Yes and they travelled almost 200 yds in that time - it was New York after all!

"Near catastrophic", "Multiple near collisions", "relentless pursuit", "reckless", and unfortunate and IMHO inappropriate comparisons drawn with the horrific event which killed Diana. The taxi driver who was briefly involved said he certainly wouldn't describe it as a "chase", and one of the pursuers was on a bicycle. Really? Also, according to the NYPD, the only person cautioned about dangerous driving was one of H&M's security detail in an SUV. NYPD also reported that there had been "no injuries, collisions, or arrests". Even Scobie is frantically back-pedalling (attempted damage limitation?) and referring to an "over-emotional" initial description of the event. Since 9/11, Manhattan has been literally dripping with CCTV security cameras, so it should certainly be easy to piece together what actually happened, and to see this "drama" unfold in detail. Is anyone demanding that such evidence be produced? If I'd been subjected to such a "terrifying" ordeal, I most certainly would be. Funny how it's all gone quiet in that area. As for the Mayor of New York being the only person to mention speed as a factor, I don't think that H&M's spokesman's definition of a "chase", particularly when qualified by descriptions such as "near catastrophic", "relentless pursuit", "multiple near collisions" and "reckless" was intended to convey that this was anything less than mayhem on wheels.. which it clearly wasn't. Own goal, I fear.. and one of many. They just keep smashing them into the back of their net, don't they? Strange mindset, but they clearly don't see it that way...

I agree with Andrew Marr. It's a nasty way to earn a living photographing people without their permission. Although it didn't seem as bad as was first reported Harry I believe is fragile and something like this may have sent his stress levels soaring.
I am not interested in this couple at all but feel that what happened was very wrong. I would feel this way about anyone who felt threatened.

Who is gullible? I have no idea exactly how it felt to be in that car. I have never been pursued by paparazzi. My mother wasn't killed as a result of their actions.
I find it reasonable to suppose they wanted to know where M&H were staying. I have seen they stopped at a police station and had to transfer to a taxi. They were still being followed and photographed. I find it reasonable to suppose they were frightened and upset.
Others may have a different opinion.
But I would like to know how anyone persuades, encourages or stages a chase by paparazzi around NY without someone telling a news service they've done it. Paps just want cash so someone would be selling their story

Well people tried to assassinate Victoria a couple of times. I wonder how she reacted? The late Queen never turned an eyebrow when that chap shot at her at the Trooping of the Colour. But K&W sued the person who tried to take pictures of Kate when they didn't want her picture to be taken.

Princess Mako of Japan gave up her royal status when she married a commoner and went to live in the USA. As far as I know she and her husband do not seek publicity and are not hounded by the paparazzi. They just get on with their lives quietly, still wealthy and privileged but not in the spotlight. If H&M wanted to lead quiet lives presumably they could do the same.

Ooh the Japanese royal family where women can't inherit the crown and they HAVE to renounce their title if (as Mako did) they marry a commoner.
Let's see under those rules. Anne, Beatrice ,and Eugenie aren't princesses any more. Nor was Margaret.
Harry though would still be a Prince, because they can and have married commoners.

So there's no hatred on here.
But one poor bloke, who married a woman so many on GN hate, was driving round New York trying not to panic as the car he was in was pursued by Papparazi, all trying to get a shot of them. They had to eventually leave the safety of their secure vehicle and take a taxi through New York, and even the taxi driver says there were still people taking flash photographs. The bloke's mother died in similar circumstances.
But hey they left the UK. They deserve all they get.
Sympathy apparently stops at the Atlantic Ocean.

Let’s unpick this

1) paps were following (note the less emotive term than “pursuing”) a car and trying to take photographs. That’s what photographers do, especially of so-called “celebrities”

Well, really. How misguided was that.
Taxi drivers are presumably good drivers but unlike the Sussexes own security detail unlikely to be security checked or necessarily experienced in avoiding /escape tactics as any security team driver should be.
Cf the driver in Paris - what could possibly go wrong?

3) the taxi driver said the photographers were still taking flash photographs -yes, it was at night

Not quite, that was a high speed car chase in a notoriously dangerous tunnel, the driver had been drinking, the passengers were not wearing seat belts. Oh that last bit is the same.

Just for once turn off your own prejudices and stop assuming anybody who is sceptical of this non-story necessarily “hates” anybody.

You missed out they stopped at a police station and were advised to use a taxi! Just a small point. The police held the photographers at bay with two cars with sirens and lights flashing.
But of course you know they should have stayed wit their car

(It's the bloody press, the flaming media, whipping up click baits to distract from the bigger picture.
