Leaving aside the fact that 'tax payers' do not finance the country, we have plenty of fit young people wanting to settle in the UK and work but our government is determined to prevent them from doing so.

But those fit young people often haven't been brought up in British culture. It seems to me that's the issue which is underlying the concern.

Isn’t it because he became a Catholic too? (I think he did…)

No. Boris was baptised Catholic as a baby because his late mother Charlotte was a Catholic.

However, he abandoned Catholicism and converted to the Church of England when he was at Eton.
(Maybe because he knew that a Catholic PM was problematic -eyes on the prize from an early age).

The reason given for his marriage in a Catholic Church being possible was that it was due to his Catholic baptism as a baby.

Where his two divorces and children out of wedlock come into it, I don’t know.

Cake and eat it as per usual

It seems that the RC God moves in mysterious ways...

Are you on the right thread Maizie?

Callistemon No need to worry about population concerns. Most countries in the world have reproduction rates that are close replacement and most advanced countries, including the UK have a birth rate below replacement.

What is causing the current burgeoning population figures is us - you know, old people, we are living far longer than the generations before us, again not so obvious in this country although the number of people living until their 90s is very obvious, but even more so in less well off countrie, in Asia and South America.

Come the middle of the century when our generation have gone and the number of very old people, although high, will no longer be increasing, then the increase of world population is expected to sow down ans stabilise and by the beginning of the next century, may well be falling.

This is, as I understand it, is the situation re population. In this country the birth rate is falling and the powers that be are concerned about it because there won’t be enough tax payers soon to support the elderly and others who need state support, but in particular, the elderly.

I didn’t realise that devout Roman Catholics approved of having affairs with married men hmm

Oh, I think that the rules don't apply to Johnson. How on earth they managed to wangle marriage in an RC church is a mystery... Divorced and adulterous...

I can understand someone might fall for him, I don't understand how anyone could marry him and believe he would be faithful.
But who knows maybe he is older and wiser??? hmm

I can too! He has a naughty glint in his eye, he is very intelligent and well educated, he seems to have always been able to attract females from his University days and I bet he is good fun in bed!!

Yes, he’s overweight and couldn’t care less about how he looks but he is down to earth and can laugh at himself so maybe those are all traits that add to his charisma. My Mum absolutely adored BJ.

I would rather have a romp with him than men like John Major, Keir Starmer or Jeremy Corbyn. Dull, dull and duller.

Yuck Primrose53 he’s so unattractive in every respect, he repulses me. I’d rather become a nun.

Nope!

Do you fancy him too, or just your mum?

No I don’t fancy my late Mum.

I'm mildly surprised, knowing how keen an environmentalist Carrie is and how she listens closely to Sir David Attenborough, who believes overpopulation will destroy our planet unless we change our lifestyles and reduce world population.

Of course, it's always other people who should do that.

Yes, but this is her third - as opposed to Boris Johnson's... 9th is it?

And, giving her some benefit of doubt - sometimes these things 'just happen'.

She's Roman Catholic, don't forget. Clearly a devout one...

No, I didn't know.

Yes, they do, Dickens!!
And very welcome they are 🙂

This child might be the one who saves the planet. Who knows?

Well said, M0nica. I was thinking of saying similar but couldn't be arsed.

I used to really like David Attenborough but his anti-humanism irritates me big time.

M0nica Sat 20-May-23 19:02:42

Actuallyit is David Attenborough who is causing our current rising population, not Carri Johnson.

Boris doesn't care what a bunch of angry, full of disgust grans think about him.

Do I detect a note of disapproval there for a bunch of grans - who may or may not be angry, and might well be Disgusted-of-Tunbridge Wells?

I seriously doubt any of the many individuals we comment on here on GN give two hoots what we think - I'm equally convinced that we're not under the illusion that they do.

But that's one of the benefits of SM sites - to be able to freely discuss people, politics, and 'things' without worrying that the individuals involved will be scouring the various forums.

You can call it disapproval if you want, Dickens. I suppose I do get tired of what I see as excessive negativity on GN sometimes. Some of it even strikes me as rather vicious.

I wouldn't call most of what's on this thread "discussion". Most of it is just complaining and, ahem, disapproving nosy-parker-ness.

But what I said was not in the hope of making it stop. Fat chance! 😂

Thanks for update FannyCornforth. Any advance on 9 anyone?

Foxygloves Sat 20-May-23 17:28:07

I’m not sure why this is a subject for discussion.
Married couple, with 2 children, announce they are expecting a third.
So what?
When BJ was in office as PM, likewise David Cameron, it might have been newsworthy, but BJ for all his “fame” is merely now a back bench MP - and possibly not for much longer.
Nothing to see here, move on.

Siope Sat 20-May-23 17:12:43

I’ve tried to resist saying this, but how interesting that they would hold off announcing her pregnancy until this late.

One would almost think they’d hoped to time the announcement for the same time as the Privileges Committee recommendations were issued, and have been pushed into doing it earlier, due to the length of time that’s taking, and all the media speculation following the coronation.

Who’s going to vote for him if not grans Baggs? I think he cares very much what older people think actually, because they are the mainstay of the Tory party.
