Has the penny dropped (as fast as the Pound)- Brexit is a disaster

Is there anyone here on GN still prepared to stand and say that it is not- and give evidence to the effect?

Greta Sat 10-Jun-23 20:44:40

What I find so narrow minded are comments like "What is done is done/no point in going on about it". Is that the only consequence of Brexit then? Not many posters comment on how other countries now see us and the consequences of that.

I presume you were not really talking about me particularly.

But sounds like enough is enough by this particular person on this particular subject for most people.
Cant say I blame them.
Brexit happened in 2016! or was it 2017.

I dont know what subject irritates you MD.
And I presume there is no limit to how many times a poster can post about something over and over.
But say teddy bears are not your thing. I dare say you would not want to read endless, and it probably is endless, threads about teddy bears.

I could start one today. One tomorrow. One the next day..

I quite like teddy bears.

But, if I didn't - I wouldn't actually bother to read what anybody had written about them.

Can't people do the same with Brexit threads?

Aveline Sat 10-Jun-23 20:21:58

I don't think it's an unmitigated disaster. What I do think is that what's done is done and there is no point in the OP's continuous wailing about it. Better to put energy into more productive channels. Rude? Yes but we've heard it all before over and over. It doesn't make any difference what any of us say she'll just be back again going on about it.

Lumiere Sat 10-Jun-23 19:42:19

I don't think that anyone could reasonably defend Brexit. I think that most people accept that it has been an unmitigated disaster
I actually can't blame people who voted for it (I didn't), I truly believe that the liars who perpetrated this exeptionalist propaganda should be held to account
By the way, there are some very rude comments to the OP on this thread, very rude indeed

All you have to do, you know, is ignore Fp's post. No need to leap into attack mode.

I agree with Fp that Brexit has been a disaster, not least because it gave us the most corrupt and self seeking PM that we have had in my life time.

It's entirely possible to be leading a perfectly contented daily life and still be angry about the cost to other fellow citizens and the degradation of the UK.

Especially as the main perpetrator behind Brexit has been shown to be a narcissistic liar. And a cowardly one to boot. To be fair to Farage he did, at least, actually believe in Brexit, whereas Johnson only supported it to further his own career. And, now that I’m speaking to two of my Brexit friends it annoys me that the whole thing split the country: friends and families…just as Trump has done in America. And before people say it was wrong of me to unfriend those people, you don’t know the reasoning behind why I did so.

MaizieD Sat 10-Jun-23 19:12:50

Of course I wasn't, fancythat. I was talking about all the people who leapt in to attack Fp for raising the subject. They're the 'irritated' ones. I just don't like concerted attacks on posters.

This is like a stuck record. Why do you keep bringing it up fp? What’s done is done. And no I didn’t vote for it but FFS give it a rest.

Hear hear..

Some personal inconveniences at airports maybe. Not to mention £250 vet's fee to get the dog brought over with us,*Oreo*! Grrrr!
(But hey ho.)

I'm whooping it up with French friends here in Brittzny. No one even mentions Brexit, very little mention of covid either. Things move on, we enjoy living.

😁
We have been whooping it up in our back yard with a Cornetto and a beer, good but not as good as yours I bet.
Thunderstorm drove us indoors😫

And all you have is 'Brenda' jokes and mockery bordering on bullying, playing the player and not the ball- and not a single answer. Like the blessed Nadine- maybe she is on GN?

Brenda will be fed up- 3 by-elections to come and very soon, a GE!

I answered!!!

Like another time on GN[not you] someone asked for reasons for or against something. I agreed something like 95% with what she said, but it was nowhere near good enough. Cant remember who it was, my memory is bad.

But only 100% agreement would have satisfied that particular poster.

You couldn’t be more wrong. The subject is as dead as John Cleeses parrot.

Have you got anyone you can talk to in real life about this? Friends/ family?
Someone who can help more?
Anonymous strangers on the internet aren’t bothered about how you feel ( and I mean that kindly )
But talking to people who know & care about you is definitely your best bet.
Take care.

Oreo Sat 10-Jun-23 17:44:52

😂
But not to bang on about it forever on forums which is why you get this yawn reaction to your posts.
I didn’t vote for it but accepted that it happened and we move on with our lives, no ‘catastrophe’ for most people who live in the UK. Some personal inconveniences at airports maybe.
The war in Ukraine and energy prices and food going up in price has affected all countries in Europe.

MayBee70 Sat 10-Jun-23 17:43:02

7 or so years on and I’ve made up with two friends that were pro Johnson/pro Brexit. Neither of them want to discuss politics and one of them says he’s stopped listening to any form of news. If only he’d not taken an interest in politics prior to voting Brexit. I can’t help but feel that the reason they don’t want to discuss Brexit is because they don’t want to admit that they were wrong?

Fleurpepper Sat 10-Jun-23 17:40:58

Fleurpepper Sat 10-Jun-23 17:38:11

oh yes, have had a lovely day, and will have a great evening with friends. And not been on GN for 2 weeks- as what's the point. But it needed to be said in the wake of Johnson's cowardly run away from facing the consequences of his lies.

Because Brexit was very narrowingly won on massive lies, and he was elected based on the lies and deception.

I am so glad for you if you are not, miraculously, very severely affected by the consequences of the lies, and of his lies. Most of us, and our families, grandchildren and all, are very strongly affected- and our grandchildren will bear the massive cost, in 1000s of ways, for decades to come.

But you are right, leave you to your sad delusions- and off to a great party with friends, the second today, with volunteering for 'my' Museum and a magnificent wild flower walk with the dog.

It is very possible to face the truth of this catastrophy, and have a wonderful personal life. Thanks.

I'm with you, Fleurpepper.
It may not happen in my lifetime but we shall once again join what is more or less the only benign bloc on the planet, to which we naturally belong.
