What will this do for the SNP?
It's all very odd.
Whatever next?

This is from the Govt. website, relating to arrest procedures in Scotland.
To arrest you the police need reasonable grounds to suspect you're involved in a crime.
The police can arrest you because:
You're suspected of committing a crime, and the police want to question you about it
They have enough evidence to charge you with the crime
They have an arrest warrant – for example because you didn't show up to court or you broke your community sentence conditions
You broke conditions of a civil interdict (a court order that stops you doing certain things) with a power to arrest.
The police have powers to arrest you anywhere and at any time, including on the street, at home or at work.
Howeevr, I don't think we should be speculating, as it is a live case.
to ticking board
She has been arrested so that anything she says can be used against her in court
Not a lot to choose between Sturgeon and Johnson now is there?
Is this the real reason she left in a hurry? Someone tipped her off that the police were investigating her. She may or may not be guilty but you do have to think they must have a fair bit of evidence against her. No doubt she will proclaim it is all a government plot against the SNP, that would fit with her general way of thinking.
This is a genuine stitch up poor Nicola doesn’t deserve all this she got us through the pandemic with flying colours not at all like the partygate Johnston who’s a liar and a womaniser fathering babies all over
who on earth would vote for him 👿
I'm surprised TBH. Obviously she's not been charged but I guess that the arrest was on the horizon hence her unexpected resignation.
I feel a bit sorry for her.
I don't know her at all, but she did seem a bit conceited and now it has all backfired.
SNP can certainly pick them!
The fact remains: where is that money?
Scottish law may be different but an arrest gives immediate powers to do something like seize a computer or paperwork. Whereas questioning doesn’t and could give someone a chance to hide or destroy evidence.
Lots of arrests come to nothing.
I'm no fan of Nationalism in any form, Scottish or otherwise, as I believe it creates a mindset which excludes others, and as history has shown, can, in its extreme form, even lead to persecution of those who are not camped in that particular tent. However, I have always respected and admired Nicola Sturgeon as a leader, and hope that these current investigations clear her of any involvement in criminal activity. Time will tell.

I could have written that post, NanaDana!
Whether you like her or not, I think she did a good job during the pandemic. As someone who was sheilding during Covid, I have nothing but admiration for her and the way I was supported during that very difficult period in my life, compared to that waste of space Johnston.
I didn't feel she offered any protection during Covid. Funding came from central government. Central government funded the vaccine research and then the widespread vaccination campaigns. All Nicola did was trot out each day and give a verbose propaganda speech. (Don't get me started on the Nike conference and care homes debacles) She's no St Nicola to many of us.

That’s not how Covid funding worked Aveline First Ministers in the nations had responsibility for determining the management of Covid precautions, not Westminster.
But Westminster gave the funding in the first place. Also Scottish government somehow can't account for what happened to the business support funding. A very sore point among struggling businesses.

That’s not the point you made though, what you said about her trotting out and making a verbose propaganda speech may have been true, but she was also directly managing Scotland’s Covid response, you can’t deny that fact.
She was 'managing' Scotland's response entirely to her own satisfaction!
I think she saw this issue coming when she resigned. That’s not to say she is guilty in any way, just that she may have become aware of what others were doing.
Lots of arrests come to nothing.
They're still digging for more evidence. Where financial malpractice is suspected, it can take years to unravel it all. They've only been investigating this one for 2 years so it's early days yet. Either way, her political career is toast.

And enjoyed getting her face on tv every day into the bargain!
What goes around comes around.
I've no love for the lady but I do believe this 'missing' money was in the bank and I believe all bank transactions are totally traceable. Can't understand what's taking so long.
I can't understand why it's taken so long either. Surely digital transactions are easily traceable. I wonder if the house and office searches were for memory stick and photocards? Small forms of record easily hidden? Whatever.
I too was shielding at the time of Covid and felt well supported at the time by the British government and I live in England. I am not sure that personalities were involved but I was constantly receiving information about how to shield, even down to receiving a food parcel, and I was one of the first to be offered the vaccine. I don't think Nicola Sturgeon did anything more!

Same here in Wales and I remember remarking frequently to DH that the Scottish First Minister was always on the TV and what about the rest of the country?
