Apparently this murderer of two fifteen year old girls in the eighties can be released from prison. He was released in 2021 after 33 years but was recalled to prison after he was caught approaching young women. The Parole Board have now decided he can be released again.
Should he be released?

keepcalmandcavachon Thu 15-Jun-23 18:39:16

The only way to find out if he is still a danger is to release him. Is that a risk that is acceptable? NO

Smileless2012 Thu 15-Jun-23 19:41:47

How will someone whose been incarcerated for 33 years be able to manage in the outside world?

bevisp1 Sun 18-Jun-23 11:07:40

Probably not, but what I do know is that when he was released in 2021, he was living in Portsmouth, and I am not far from this area. So something like this on your doorstep, we don’t want him here.

essjay Sun 18-Jun-23 11:13:05

definitely not,he's been recalled once, do these parole people never learn, the same happened with jon venables. This just proves they are still a danger to society.

Harris27 Sun 18-Jun-23 11:13:26

Just wait till he reoffends then they will have something to answer to. No keep him inside.

Dandylion Sun 18-Jun-23 11:13:32

From the pattern of his approach and murder of two young women, it is obvious this is a cunning and manipulative man - quite capable of putting on a reformed front to the PB.
I agree with Maddyone - his 'change of behaviour' isn't believable.... please, for the sake of some other young woman out there, keep him locked up.

Galaxy Sun 18-Jun-23 11:25:07

No.
There was going be a long explanation around my knowledge of men who offend in this way, and my lack of faith in parts of the justice system relating to violence against children and women, but I think no is enough.

Nannylovesshopping Sun 18-Jun-23 11:26:06

NO

SecondhandRose Sun 18-Jun-23 11:28:21

I would have given a special injection when he was found guilty and used the money spent on holding him all these on something to helpful the families of this type of crime.

SecondhandRose Sun 18-Jun-23 11:28:33

Years

Cabbie21 Sun 18-Jun-23 11:30:02

No.
I do not see how he can have changed in the last couple of years.

holcombemummy60 Sun 18-Jun-23 11:36:28

You’d be shocked if you knew how many offenders on life sentence are actually out on licence . And of course his behaviour is good there is no chance of him meeting young girls whilst in jail . You’d think the fact he was recalled to prison the last time he would have to do life as he has proved he cannot be trusted

JenniferEccles Sun 18-Jun-23 11:40:37

He most definitely should not be released.
Since the capital punishment will never be reinstated, life should mean life, and prison for individuals like him should be as unpleasant as possible.

The poor parents and families of those murdered girls are suffering a life sentence aren’t they?

Pjcpjc77 Sun 18-Jun-23 11:44:02

He most definitely should not be released by the simple fact that he has been recalled already on a previous occasion.
WTF is up with these parole board people. If their so happy to release this bike monster perhaps they wouldn't mind him living next door to them!

Pjcpjc77 Sun 18-Jun-23 11:44:54

The word is Vile not bike sorry.

knspol Sun 18-Jun-23 12:04:43

Beggars belief! He will now just know to be more careful than he was on last release.

Do agree with Germanshepherds mum in that it would be very interesting to know how the parole board could reach such a decision or at least what criteria they use to make decisions.

albertina Sun 18-Jun-23 12:07:08

NO NO NO

This man should never be released.

Women and girls will be at severe risk. He will kill and rape again.

Since my daughter started work in CID I have taken an interest in programmes about crime. There have been several that tell the story of his crimes. He is a complete brute who will offend again.

Keeper1 Sun 18-Jun-23 12:08:28

Has there ever been a rapist who has been reformed? I can see how a thief could be But someone who sets out to rape, abuse and murder is it possible?

Luckygirl3 Sun 18-Jun-23 12:09:23

There was a recent programme following the parole board and I was shocked by some of their decisions and the unprofessional process that led up to them. There is no way that a foolproof parole system can be devised but we cannot have these glaring errors. He was recalled when he was last on parole; that should be a sufficient red flag to refuse release.

EEJit Sun 18-Jun-23 12:11:10

He should have been taken on a short walk and given a long drop back in the eighties

Life sentences
If you’re found guilty of murder, a court must give you a life sentence. A court may decide to give a life sentence for other serious offences like rape or armed robbery.

If you’re given a life sentence it will last for the rest of your life.

If you’re ever released from prison you will spend the rest of your life ‘on licence’ in the community.

If you break licence conditions or commit another crime you can be sent back to prison.

Whole life orders
A whole life order means you will never be released from prison, except in exceptional compassionate circumstances.

This is a quote from www.gov.uk/types-of-prison-sentence/life-sentences

So presumably the criminal you are discussing was given the first kind of sentence and will be back in prison if he breaks the law, which as far as I know means that if he even gets a speeding ticket, he can be sent back to serve more of his sentence.

Smileless2012 Sun 18-Jun-23 12:22:53

We can only hope that if he does offend again, it wont be anything more serious than a speeding ticket.

Mohutch Sun 18-Jun-23 12:27:04

If the parole board have decided to release him they have good reason. Prisons run programmes to make offenders look at their motives (which often stem from childhood abuse or neglect) and the effect on their victims and families.People change with appropriate help.I am all for removing violent people from society for a few years but the parole board are the only people in full possession of the facts.Sofor those of us who know nothing about this man to say they are wrong is not justice, it is mass hatred of the sort whipped up against many minority groups and is a dangerous path. I have worked in a prison and I have seen at first hand the changes which an be made by suitable education programmes

Glorianny Sun 18-Jun-23 12:29:52

I would imagine that there is a very real danger that, as his last attempts to approach young women resulted in him being sent back to prison, he would act more quickly next time and do more than just approach them. I don't see how 2 years can have changed him so much.
I wonder is this the same parole board as the one that released him the first time?

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 18-Jun-23 12:31:26

You do realise that he was released and then recalled two years ago after approaching young women Mohutch? It’s difficult to see what’s changed to render him safe in two years when 33 years of incarceration hadn’t done so.
