Want all foreigners banned from working in care homes.

Honestly their sheer bloody stupidity leaves you breathless at times.

Aren’t the National Conservatives a world wide political group that Braverman, amongst others, belongs to?

Yes, I think she is but I doubt she'll go as far as to implement these policies, hopefully not!

Surely New Cons is worse than National Cons - although it does sum them up better, because new cons is exactly what we’d get from them?

We would all like to be cared for by familiar carers, or nurses or doctors currently that is a distant dream. My mother was recently paying for carers from the council to help her, an East European lady and an African man were sent she accepted it for a few weeks but was not happy.
I found a local lady which was far more suitable, mum was happy for her final days.

Who are these “New Conservatives” they have no chance of achieving their aim

Thanks for the link GSM. To suggest that New Conservatives want all foreign workers in care homes banned is inflammatory and not the case.

‘Part of this proposed policy involves only allowing in skilled workers who earn £38,000 a year or more.’.
From the BBC report I posted above. As workers in care, as opposed to health professionals, do not earn above £38,000 they will be unable to get visas.

Professionals like nurses, teachers, young junior doctors, engineers and many other young professionals do not earn £38,000 pa.

I think they want to reduce numbers drastically, if you look at foxie48’s post above. I don’t think it will affect doctors to a great degree, because most of them are here on working visas for fixed periods having been appointed to a vacancy, and are in ‘middle grade’ non career posts - but you’re right about nurses, they can’t have thought that through.

I’ve just discovered if I’ve read this correctly that the New Conservatives aren’t the same as the National. Conservatives, they are a group of 20 or so younger right wing Tory MPs who have set themselves up as a campaign group. It’s explained in this opinion piece from Sky News.

It would be interesting to know who they are, and how much crossover there is with the supporters of the National Conservatives.

Here they are 😄😄 a motley crew

Casdon Tue 04-Jul-23 07:42:26

I didn’t recognise any of them, so I’ve found out some more.

If I was a moderate Tory MP I think I’d be tearing my hair out by now.

Apparently, ‘30p’ Lee Anderson isn’t in the photo because ‘he’s unwell in bed’
Malingering sponger!

FannyCornforth Tue 04-Jul-23 07:55:18

And he is ‘part of the group’, but ‘doesn’t officially endorse policy proposals’ due to his role as Deputy Chairman of The Conservatives.
Well, that’s all very clear…

foxie48 Tue 04-Jul-23 08:56:40

I thought they were just a group of Tory MPs who got elected into Red wall seats and think they'll probably lose their seats at the next election.

It does seem to be more than that, they have had a launch event and all. I don’t really understand where they fit in to the internal party politics in the Tory party.

FannyCornforth Tue 04-Jul-23 09:55:57

Maizie grin very good.
I didn’t realise that Anderson also had a gig at GBNews.
It’s ridiculous how many Tory MP’s have shows on there.
Surely it’s only a matter of time until Johnson gets a slot.

GSM you say you understand that 'many care home assistants speak very poor English'. That surprises me, if you mean one to one personal care. Can you quantify it?

It is certainly shameful that the sector is now almost entirely profit-led and pays barely above the minimum wage for work that requires skill and compassion.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 04-Jul-23 13:42:50

It’s what has been said on here by British carers and by the families of residents in care homes. It doesn’t surprise me in the least.

greenlady102 Tue 04-Jul-23 13:45:24

so these New Conservatives? who are they? an offshoot of the Conservative party?

They are MPs, from the Tory right, a group of 20 youngish ones and they have launched a new campaign group called the New Conservatives.

It’s very difficult for the hard of hearing and those with dementia if care home assistants speak little English or speak with a heavy accent Wyllow.

It'very difficult to be lying in a filthy bed, unfed, unwashed, dehydrated and not spoken to. That, for some/many, is the only possible alternative if we have no carers. That seems to be what Conservatives want.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 04-Jul-23 14:05:51

I disagree. IMO they want carers with a reasonable command of English who can converse with residents, not treat them in silence or speak in a way that the person can’t understand. I don’t agree with the proposal but I would like to think people could be treated by someone who can talk to them.

Anniebach Tue 04-Jul-23 14:06:13

I now live in a nursing/care home, been here 7 months, there are carers from other countries with accents, they are loved here and they give love as well as care.

I think they are 25 of the most brainless Tories waiting until Sunak sacks Suella Braverman so she can lead them into their perceived ghastly future.

Obviously, at the moment, Sunak dare not sack her and send her to the back benches.
