I know the last thread was taken down at the op’s request - but if anyone wants to continue discussing this major news item I’ve started this one.

The old and female? Blimey.

... do you think we're being chastised grin?

Aren't I allowed my opinion "Dickens". Is only a particular type of gossip allowed? That which destroys others but must not touch you. Do I have to stop suggesting that this conversation has built mountains on what seems to be a complete lack of actual evidence.

We may yet see this played out legally but we haven't yet.

Everyone is allowed an opinion "DaisyAnneReturns".

I'm questioning why you appear to feel the need to frequently police other poster's comments.

I'm confident that GNHQ are monitoring this thread and will make sure that any inappropriately-speculative comments will get deleted.

Matters discussed on News & Politics forums usually derive from news / articles in the news media or broadcasting news. Very few of us I suspect have inside information, nor the factual evidence that lays behind the events and incidents being reported. We discuss, debate and speculate on what we know, and I think most of us, again, are aware that allegations are just that... claims / accusations, and they are not necessarily true.

If you think anyone on here is trying to damage / destroy the reputation of any high-profile individual - or even one who doesn't have a high-profile in the community - then report the post.

Where have I "policed" anyone, Dickens? I have said people have no facts, Is the truth "policing" now? I have called the opinions without facts, gossip but then opinion without facts or data is gossip.

That gossip is not necessarily harmful but it can , and has been know to, destroy lives. You may not like being reminded of that but my comments do not stop you. Indeed they are not expected to stop you, just to let you know that at least one GN member is unhappy with the way the forum is being used.

the person is being advised by his lawyers to keep quiet no doubt!
he could of course ignore that advice and clear up the speculation.

I think the man must be mentally ill to have acted in such outrageous out of character way.

JenniferEccles Wed 12-Jul-23 08:35:01

I see Jeremy Vine is calling on the presenter to name himself to prevent “yet more vitriol being thrown at perfectly innocent colleagues”.
I think it’s unlikely to happen.

Doodledog

Do you have a vested interest in this story, Daisy, or do you just like telling others how to behave?

Nobody has named names or said anything libellous. I’m sure that HQ is monitoring the thread just in case. Nobody will be ‘destroyed’ because of what we say on here. Someone may lose his job because of his own actions, but whether we feel sorry for him or his victims will make no difference to that.

I talk about the general lack of actual evidence and the blood fest which is happening. Are you saying this isn't true or merely that you don't like it being said?

If you were to name names, GN, and you, could be subject to a claim of disproportionate invasion of privacy. You seem to think that simply not braking privacy laws makes you "good people".

You have no facts and some comments seem quite egregious on the basis of no facts. The Sun had not even spoken to the first young adult before they spread their "story" all over their front page. Either that or they chose not to quote them,. They seem to have reported no facts, data or evidence. We do not know if they paid the parents who, in any case, seem to have been prepared to over-ride the young adults request for privacy.

We have new gossip, told yet again to the Sun, not the police. Add to this the source has not been identified so it's veracity cannot be tested and it may have been paid for. All in all, pretty grubby with no facts produced but on which people are happy to feed.

I think I must be a bit dumb,I have no idea one little bit who this person might be,I wouldn't really know who has been taken off air,but no doubt the disclosure is imminent .

Likewise bikergran.

I'm in with those who are 'not in the know'.

I'm content to wait for the facts.

Just an afterthought, if certain parties who are regularly commenting here were let loose on our Criminal Justice system, I have no doubt that the clear-up rate for crimes would go through the roof. Sadly, the Rules of Evidence would have to go out of the window at the same time.

BlueBelle Wed 12-Jul-23 07:12:45

It’s funny how those that think this is an awful thread and shouldn’t be discussed are not only on here but must be reading each post to be able to comment as they do That’s hilarious 😂just as friends chew over things when they are with each other the same happens on here
It’s a group and things will be discussed agreed with, disagreed with, commented on its human nature unless you live an isolated life with no interest in humanity

Just because there is a thread about this it doesn’t stop people bring interested or interacting about other world problems
You can comment on two/ three/ four worries, concerns or interests on different threads no holds barred

Coronation Wed 12-Jul-23 07:11:46

This is people's lives and it's shocking how the media works. We don't know the full facts, we may never know them, but this trial by media is appalling.

Galaxy Wed 12-Jul-23 07:03:53

Do you find it awful being old and female daisy?
When women discuss issues relating to power and the purchasing of sexual services that kind of statement is always rolled out. Very predictable.

Start a separate thread about China invading Taiwan if you’d rather discuss that.

No one has to care about this BBC presenters private life.

Grammaretto Wed 12-Jul-23 06:45:34

Why are we hearing about this salacious drivel?
In other news: China has invaded Taiwan.

NanaDana Wed 12-Jul-23 06:44:16

Good morning all. And so it continues.. as with every new development, further grist is added to the mill of those who are creating totally speculative worlds around this topic, and fleshing them out with imagined characters. If you read through what has been written in certain posts, in that totally imaginary construct, the Police investigation has been completed, and the “BBC presenter”, who has been masquerading on our screens as a family man, has not only been charged with an unspecified crime, but has gone to court, been found guilty, has been imprisoned, and has even been referred to the prison psychiatrist. I’m not making this up. I wish I was. I am at a total loss to understand why anyone would want to operate like this. As I’ve said on numerous occasions, all that we actually know is that certain allegations have been made, and that investigations are ongoing. Yes, the allegations may be true.. or not.. but we simply don't know. Simply wishing that they are true, for whatever reason, and writing fantasies around that is an utterly pointless exercise. Also, pretending that all that is happening here is that "the news" is being discussed is ridiculous. Some of it, not all, is simply gossip central, and although I feel that someone who has described the more extreme examples as "blood lust" is stretching it a bit, I can certainly see where they're coming from. It feels that there are some strange agendas at work here, and I don't begin to understand them. I also find it rather ironic that those who are self-appointed judge, jury and executioner then loudly complain that their excesses are now being judged by those who disagree with them. Bottom line? I find what is happening rather sad, but we've all seen it happen before, and it will no doubt happen again. Human nature? Not universally perhaps, but it persists with some..

Kandinsky Wed 12-Jul-23 06:39:54

His poor wife. ( if he has one of course )

BlueBelle Wed 12-Jul-23 06:32:29

Appears there are now 4 complainants according to the news this morning
Going up

Doodledog Wed 12-Jul-23 02:26:06

I assume from your post that you now know who it is? All the same, I don’t think we should be giving clues to his identity yet, should we? It will all be on the record soon enough.

Anniebach Wed 12-Jul-23 00:45:32

I cannot recall the man coming on tv and speaking of being married, when did he do this Doodledog ?

News story

Doodledog Wed 12-Jul-23 00:13:23

They knitted at the guillotine in revolutionary France as the heads of the nobles were chopped off.

Not exactly the same as commenting on a new story, but some enjoy stretching analogies to breaking point 😂

Kate1949 Wed 12-Jul-23 00:11:13

Well yes a bit Dickens but then I AM old and female. Daisy What is tricoteuses please?

Doodledog Wed 12-Jul-23 00:10:40

DaisyAnneReturns

Just remember the tricoteuses. That picture keeps coming to mind as I read this thread. Not all posts, obviously.

😂😂

Well, that’s us told.

You really don’t have to keep reading this thread you know? As has been said, we are discussing the News in N&P, so don’t really need policing, though.
