We could play "Spot the culture war"

Sunak has suggested this is how he will lose fewer seats than his party dreads, in the next election. As he will be using it, from what he said, in every constituency where he can spot one, we could keep a running total or each keep a list of our own and see who comes out ahead.

I'm really not sure how he can run for the title of Nasty Party Leader any more obviously. I'm beginning to think he's had enough and would rather be back at his swimming pool counting his money.

Blimey Sunak is losing the plot I think.

This is what we’re up against.

The Labour Party, a subset of lawyers, criminal gangs - they're all on the same side, propping up a system of exploitation that profits from getting people to the UK illegally.

I will stay here thanks WW.
I actually think culture wars isnt a helpful term, it makes it seem as if those issues arent important, which of course they are.
I dont think criticising the Tories for 'culture wars' is a winning strategy, it ignores the issues underneath and then people get surprised when the general public dont respond at the ballot box in the way people on the internet think they should.

Galaxy

You brought it up WW. Can I just clarify that you brought it up, criticising a section of GN, and then when some of us respond you tell us to go away. How lovely.

No - wrong.

I suggested that you start another thread, because otherwise this thread would unfairly be derailed.

I would have quite happily contributed to the new thread.

As as for your point about me criticising a section of GN - you are making something out of it that doesn’t exist. It was simply used as an example of how minorities can be hurt by culture wars.

*Agreed Galaxy Although an intelligent in depth discussion, from all pov would be very helpful (minus the hate and exaggeration that invariably gets whipped up).*
This is the sort of comment that put me off replying.

Almost did me too Doodledog, but you do realize I'm just quoting in the brackets?

Tbh I think a new thread is best as this is about identifying the Tory culture wars.

I second that, Ww

Wwmk2 I think you're right, he is a silly little man. Although it is difficult to find 'proper' politicians nowadays.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 25-Jul-23 15:09:45

I do wish Sunak would stop behaving like a 16 year old.

In His latest tweet he is trying to link the Labour Party with the smuggling gangs. What a silly little man he us.

Galaxy Tue 25-Jul-23 08:03:18

It's a point rarely answered namsnanny, it's much easier to think in terms of culture wars rather than addressing quite complex issues. Left wing feminist lesbians being some of the most high profile of those raising concerns is just a bit tricky.

Namsnanny Mon 24-Jul-23 22:07:43

Yes I can see that. 😉 but Galaxy was left hanging, at an interesting point in the discussion wasn't she?
I'm assessing pros and cons to choose how I might vote in the future.

I thought this thread might help 👍

I want to hear what you think Namsnanny.

Namsnanny Mon 24-Jul-23 21:53:41

How do you feel about Galaxy post Wyllow3?

Does it have veracity?

Or is there another explanation for the points she makes?

Wyllow3 Mon 24-Jul-23 21:49:34

Well you've lost me.

Namsnanny Mon 24-Jul-23 21:03:24

Haha Age (wisdom?) before beauty!

Feminists mostly left wing feminists, have been discussing those issues for over ten years. Long long before the Tories decided they could play with the issue.
MN was at the forefront of those discussions, as I say a decade ago, so anyone who thinks those women are part of the culture war has absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

Any one care to reply?

Go on then Namsnanny, you go first.

Let us just remind ourselves that over 80% of those who read newspapers in the UK, read right wing propaganda owned by foreign billionaires or tax exiles.

If you read The Daily Mail, The Sun, The Telegraph, The Daily Express< The Times, etc, you will be instructed to vote Conservative.

There will be no serious criticism of the appalling Tory governments of the last eight years, only pro-Tory propaganda.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 23-Jul-23 11:07:57

I think it will be seat by seat - but also nationwide with the assistance of the media.

So what areas are up for weaponisation?

We know that the Tories successfully and constantly weaponise the immigration issue.

It seems that trans-gender issues are being given active consideration for weaponisation which will without fail result in hurt and distress to anyone who is a transgender person. We only have to look on this site to see how easily hate and exaggeration is so easily whipped up.

What other minorities are in danger from a government who in normal times one would expect to protect them from this?

If it’s seat by seat, it will probably be more about road schemes, dog poo on the streets, keep our local school/hospital open, pedestrianisation of shopping centres etc., whatever the locals rant about most.
Starmer is giving very few clues about his plans, which I’m beginning to realise is a clever strategy (even acknowledged by Rees-Mogg) as it lessens the impact of any jibes if they just don’t know anything he is specifically planning, and they can’t effectively argue about the economy which is the usual target.

Do you mean the discussions on the tavistock or the issue of men in womens sport or spaces.

If you’re going to mount a successful election campaign by attacking your opposition, why announce what you’re planning to do in advance to give them time to mount their defence seat by seat? It seems counterproductive to show your cards so early.
