Can’t believe am thinking this- apparently we’re not .. global warming but 🥵
Still caused by climate change and the jet stream

Can we totally blame China?
Australia exports its coal and makes tons of money.
We all buy ‘stuff’ from China so we don’t add to the uk’s carbon footprint. I really do try not to but sometimes it’s unavoidable.
My friend bought an MG. She was unaware it was made in China, why not a car made here?
I look at every label and immediately lose any desire for the article if it says it’s made there. My DH nearly had a spasm when I paid quite a lot to buy a British made toaster but he has nearly recovered!
I am getting disillusioned though and wonder if I can be bothered to keep on being the rubbish monitor.
I will be your deputy monitor. Do we need a badge? (made in UK)

Your toaster should be built to last, though, Pamela, and repairable, rather than just outlasting the warranty and ending up at the tip.

If you follow that thought through that ULETZ won’t affect the wealthy/ better off, eventually it will.
The wealthy, better off are supported by the people who can’t afford the tax.
Without that support they are in a worse position.
If anyone gets a chance to watch Love a Latino, please do.
It’s a far fetched story of how all the Mexican workers in California are spirited up into space and how all the wealthy families who employ them haven’t the least idea of how to cope.

Good post Pamela.
GrannyGravy- so why bother do anything???
Britain have responded well to the threat of Global Warning, if only others had responded as well.
I will not buy anything not produced here and check labels. Decided not to fly if I can help it, I look at other means of travel but not sure it’s possible with the extra time involved and glad I have be3n lucky enough to have done a lot of travel in the past when it didn’t trouble me. Very annoyed at the dumping of clothes abroad which we’ve donated in good faith.
Fleurpepper you asked me so why bother do anything
I choose to do what I personally can, I avoid Chinese made produce wherever it’s possible, I admit to having a laptop, iPad and iPhone which in all probability were made in China.
I buy local produce and less new clothes than previously I would have done,
What are you doing?

1) Yes, to the unknown Siberian permafrost. They are also resurrecting ancient insect and animal life forms from 46,000 yrs ago. Really, they should just let them be extinct. RIP
2) Conglomerates feel no pain and will not until our legislators put laws into action to hold them accountable. Which have a looong way to go given the makeup of our current US Congress, made up of grifters who benefit from these companies. Global warming and climate change deniers aught to be voted out of office. Only then will we get some traction.
Get out and Vote!

milestOne deputies always welcome.
The true sadness is that half the world are in denial and the other believe the scientific evidence. It’s like Brexit it’s almost a 50/50 divide: I think a lot of good people don’t want to believe in climate change because they are scared and they are hoping against hope that it is all scare mongering. Meantime the worlds richest want to keep making money and don’t care about the consequences. As for me I think that the outcome will be disastrous but for future generations I pray that I am wrong. We won’t stop it because half the world are in denial of it even happening!
The UK is just as culpable in global warming as the current producers of pollution. The Industrial Revolution pumped huge amounts of poisons into the atmosphere. It wasn’t until 1950s there was a Clean Air Act as a result of the great smog in 1952. This smog damaged my lungs for ever. I believe that everything should be done to ensure essential workers can get to work. The government needs to provide more subsidies for Greater London.
It’s obvious that everything needs to change to live far more sustainably. No more built in breakdown. Everything should be repairable. Of course, the myth of ever more growth would have to stop. The greed of the global corporations is destroying the world as we know it and the little people at the bottom of the heap are the first to suffer.
These are the 5 most polluting countries on the planet.
1. China (30%)
2. United States (15%)
3. India (7%)
4. Russia (5%)
5. Japan (4%)
= 61%
The rest of the World together contributes the other 39%. Yes, we should all be doing what we can to reduce our contribution, but until the major culprits significantly reduce their output, our efforts are just a drop in the (polluted) ocean. They all come up with excuses why they can't do it now, and don't seem to accept that the clock is ticking to the point of no return. I don't know what the answer is, I do my bit, my conscience won't let me do otherwise, but it's a losing battle while the big countries won't change their policies.
It is true that the UK currently is not contributing a great deal of CO2 to global warming. But we have simply outsourced the pollution to China, which now manufactures the goods we buy.

and China is buying up large parts of other parts of the world ie in Africa and Mongolia, not to mention it's unlawful invasion ofTibet.. a truly worrying country and one that doesn't appear to negotiate or respect any human rights. So I don't see a good outcome to this climate crisis there
I don't understand this idea that "we are only contributing 1% so it should be down to the bigger contributers to resolve..
A. Lowering our emissions will make a difference
B. I am willing to bet if we looked at the numbers by area or individual instead of by country our contribution is actually higher
Your bet isn’t fact VS.
Here is one example,
The UK is currently 5th in the world for the amount of flights taken, it has previously been as high as 3rd
I expect that figure is not included in the data
And we are the world's 6th largest exporter of goods
We need to be doing our part clearly
First. ULEZ has little to do with climate change: it's a public health policy but it appears to be a regressive tax on poorer people. Not surprising they and their friends voted against it in Uxbridge.
Second, all UK plans to combat climate change envisage some use of oil and gas by 2050. It's not 'zero' but 'net zero' hence the emphasis on carbon capture (already being done at scale by Norway) and renewables to offset fossil emissions. It's important the UK makes progress on climate change but it's contribution is modest in comparison with the changes needed in China, USA and Australia. Thunberg makes a lot of noise protesting in the UK and Europe but her efforts might be better directed to the major CO2 producers.
I wonder how Thunberg would get on in China! Strange that she hasn’t been there but instead directs her venom towards countries in Europe primarily.
I daresay she wouldn't be safe in China because she is so high profile and their regime is inhospitable maddyone but she would be popular amongst the intelligent, thinking people.
Here in Edinburgh there are many Chinese university students who are very forward looking and eager to discuss
global warming and any other crisis facing the world.
China is on course to hit wind and solar power target 5 years ahead of time

Sorry about the bad link. I am not reaching my own targets of being computer savvy ðŸ˜
This isn't helping:
Article is from May 2022
Renewable energy developers are facing delays of up to a decade to connect new capacity to the electricity grid, threatening the government’s pledge to shift away from fossil fuels and meet net zero targets.
The UK recently set out ambitious new goals to more than double existing renewable generation capacity, adding 50 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2030, 70GW of solar by 2035 and 24GW of nuclear by 2050.
But developers say they are being told that they will have to wait six to 10 years to connect to the regional distribution networks because of constraints on National Grid’s network.

I'm not sure China is reliable in reporting its achievements against targets. They don't hesitate to deny ill-treatment of minorities.
