I don't think it's unexpected that they did better on terrorism and defence nanna. For some on the far-right that's the only area they think they should be involved in. So you hope they would be doing better but even in these two bastions of Conservatism, one is only just "positive" the other not much better.
When it comes to polling there are aways nuances. Different polling companies major on different areas and of course, general public opinion doesn't count for much in a first past the post system. The Conservatives can still win if they have high positive ratings in the areas that matter. If you are going to criticise polling it helps those reading to know the specific caveats for the poll you are attacking. "I don't like polls when the polls don't agree with my opinion", is not particularly scientific.
So we also need to be aware, as the speaker points out, that some policy areas rarely determine voter decisions.

The big shout is how badly they are doing on the economy. They are not even doing well on immigration which they thought would win them votes. But elections always come down to the economy. That is where the opinions, gathered and researched in an understandable and acceptable way by most in this field, are useful.
