Tory government have net positive ratings in only 2 out of 15 policy areas (latest YouGov poll)
(19 Posts)And imminent is the Liz Truss honours list. Said to be one honour per 4 days of her (ahem) premiership. Two are said to have declined already. Given her wholly inadequate performance she should forgo a resignation honours list. It's a disgrace that people can be awarded an honour for such a short period of service during a totally hopeless government which wrecked the economy and had appalling consequences for ordinary people paying mortgages, etc., and for pension funds which had to be bailed out by an unverified Bank of England. The Tory grassroots are incapable of electing a competent leader and they rejected Sunak who accurately spelled out the likely outcome of Truss's policies. The Lords scrutiny committee should reject the list completely.
I don't think it's unexpected that they did better on terrorism and defence nanna. For some on the far-right that's the only area they think they should be involved in. So you hope they would be doing better but even in these two bastions of Conservatism, one is only just "positive" the other not much better.
When it comes to polling there are aways nuances. Different polling companies major on different areas and of course, general public opinion doesn't count for much in a first past the post system. The Conservatives can still win if they have high positive ratings in the areas that matter. If you are going to criticise polling it helps those reading to know the specific caveats for the poll you are attacking. "I don't like polls when the polls don't agree with my opinion", is not particularly scientific.
So we also need to be aware, as the speaker points out, that some policy areas rarely determine voter decisions.
If you watch the link you will see an analysis,.That's why I thought those who who want a more than swapping of opinions while understanding no more in depth, would find it interesting.
The big shout is how badly they are doing on the economy. They are not even doing well on immigration which they thought would win them votes. But elections always come down to the economy. That is where the opinions, gathered and researched in an understandable and acceptable way by most in this field, are useful.
Well terrorism and defence look good but if it is that bad ,why bother with defence because no one would want to come anyway! Do you really believe these polls ? I certainly don’t. Time and time again they have been shown to be faulty. Only a certain sort of person answers them, very selective. Oh, and I used to work for a polling company at one stage of my life, not on the phones, either.

Honestly, I think that in an ever shrinking world, that there should be worldwide standards, not just European.
I'm not sure how you would get countries to agree, although I like the thought.
I was just thinking how the countries would react. I won't write my thoughts as I am sure I would be being somethingist. It did make me realise my, possible our, view of countries hasn't changed a lot. If anything, after watching the Brexit negotiations, the British shout even loader and still expect everyone to speak English
I suppose the United Nations is our best hope.

Maybe GG13 worldide everything always sounds good - like world wide peace - but how do we make that happen?
Above my pay grade I’m afraid, but it’s always worth striving for.

That is a good decision Grantanow - but don'y expect it to be reported in The Daily Mail.
And they have just slipped out an announcement that the UK is to continue using the CE standards mark established by the EU rather than adopt its own little Englander kitemark. Businesses, which lost trade overnight through Brexit, are outraged that they have had to spend millions preparing to use our very own mark simply because the Brexiteer Tories couldn't bear to use an EU mark and there was talk of global Britain of course. They have finally realised that what business has been telling them all along since Brexit was right - that having common standards facilitates trade. Having diverging standards doesn't but the 'sovereignty' nonsense prevailed until now. Johnson is well known for his '** business' remark. What a total waste of time and money all round.
Not one of you has, as far as I can tell, watched the analysis. That's not a criticism. I think discussion groups have disappeared - or I was very lucky to belong to one in the past
I was younger then (much) and we hadn't even bought our first computer - the one you basically programmed yourself. Perhaps people just don't have the time any more.
The hugely negative opinion on immigration could come from either side of the political spectrum.
Well Oliver Dowden didn't help matters yesterday saying that their concerns over the safety of the barge for asylum seekers was politically motivated.
I'm amazed they have got positive ratings for anything. I can't see much that's good about them.🤔

I'm surprised they have a positive rating for anything.
I could write a synopsis of this analysis but it makes more sense for you to watch it www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHRpCszSjQc&t=617s
Phil Moorhouse is happy to admit he is a member of the Labour Party. I find his analysis very clear and detailed enough to add to my knowledge. Knowing that the Tory biased media will either ignore this poll or castigate the very highly thought of polsters who carried it out, it should help to balance views.
