They were just 4 miles off the French coast yet ended up in Dover as usual!!

We have given France 500MILLION to sort things their end. They must be laughing their heads off.

You makes your choice. Mine happens to be animals.

You mean the illegal Rwanda scheme which is meant to be a deterrent? Fine lot of good that is. And for those of you worried about this so called infiltration by the Wagner group you weren’t worried about Lebedev being put into the House of Lords were you? and very few people were the slightest bit concerned when the Foreign Secretary, one B Johnson, was seen hung over, no security detail, at Perugia airport after a weekend at Lebedev snr's villa in Italy.

*Perhaps if the Rwanda scheme which is going through The Supreme Court at the moment had not been blocked by Labour, Keir Starmer and the left instead of getting on this dinghy last night having paid thousands of Euros to the criminal gangs they might have decided to stay in France or another safe country, actually I blame Labour and the Left for this tragedy. Labour just trying to score political points and not backing the government should hang their heads in shame*

Inaccurate again Nicenanny3. The Illegal Migration Bill passed through the Commons, was rejected by the Lords, and is now subject to court of Appeal because it was ruled unlawful. Labour don’t agree with it, but that wasn’t the reason it hasn’t progressed.

Actually the Illegal migration bill has been passed by Parliament, and received Royal Assent in July this year. Rwanda, blocked by judges is awaiting appeal later this year I believe.

I'd never ask people where they are from, that is actually quite rude, sometimes the answer is "Birmingham" and sometimes the answer is "I don't know" because they do not know their ethnic origin. Many people don't

I have been asked thousands of times where I am from and never once been offended. When we go abroad most people ask where we’re from. I have even been asked what part of Australia I’m from ….. I’m not but we usually have a good laugh! I think it’s good to take an interest in people and where they’re from.

You must be a very sensitive soul if you think it’s “rude”. 😉

Of course. The difference is that in the UK they’re not rounded up and exterminated.

My current rescue was brought to the UK by a charity from Southern Ireland, where rescued dogs are kept for only a few days before being euthanised.

And in other countries human beings are losing to their lives

So my point still stands

Many people have strong feelings about helping our own homeless before housing and feeding asylum seekers. I am one such person. And not a ‘main character’.

No homeless dogs in the UK?

DiamondLily Sat 12-Aug-23 17:53:36

I agree. That barge was perfectly ok....but basic health checks should have been carried out.

Once that's sorted out, then there's no longer a problem.

They are right Primrose

Also how do you know the ethnicity and origin of every person who treated you?

Did you ask?

Did you ask how long they had been in the country?

Did you ask how they came to be here?

Many came as refugees and had asylum granted already. We don't stick them on dirty disease ridden ships forever

Also what about all the other ex refugees doing jobs you can't manage without? Your toilet roll as just one example, went through many hands before it got you. There are thousands of people involved in every moment of your existence from making, delivering, stocking and checking out each individual item you use to maintaing and cleaning spaces you inhabit.

Your life actually depends on every one of them

Yes. I usually ask people where they are from and we have some very nice chats. I assumed the Egyptian consultant had not been here long as his English was very poor although he tried his best. The Portuguese nurse has been here several years and we discussed our holidays there.

Dirty, disease ridden ships? What an over reaction.😱
The barge looked spotless and even people on 5* cruise ships have caught legionnaires disease.

DiamondLily Sat 12-Aug-23 17:49:37

I think I've lost the plot of this argument.

There must be hundreds of charities advertising etc in this country.

Some involve animals of every type.

Some are for home grown charities for those people in this country.

Some are health based - donations to support research etc.

Some are for refugees, disaster areas, starvation abroad etc.

But, one thing they all have in common is that people are using THEIR money, and can choose who and what they support.

One charity donation is no more worthy than another, and no charity donation means anyone wants to be a star in their own show.....🙄

Obviously it suits some UK press and individuals to ignore the French coastguard presence which was first on the scene. The Dover RNLI lifeboat attended because it was already nearby. Good on both services for saving lives at sea. Bad on those who earlier misrepresented the situation, doubtless for anti-EU reasons. Sad for those who died.

You consider it ironic that she cares for dogs overseas but not humans arriving from overseas. That’s her choice. Some of the animal charities I support work with animals, mainly equines, and their owners abroad.

Yes, I explained to her it was her choice

Giving to refugees was my choice

She was quite rude about it and wanted the whole post taken down and the person collecting to "help are own!!!1"

Primrose53 of course the people working in the NHS are legal, there are huge fines for employing someone who does not have leave to work in this country but what you do not know is how many of them came here to seek asylum, were granted it and are therefore now able to work. The NHS and Social care employ 3 million people, you can be certain that lots of them either came here as refugees or are the relatives of people who came here as refugees. They will be represented across the whole spectrum of the workforce from consultants to cleaners, nurses to porters, just open your eyes when you are next in a hospital!

I think you need to open YOUR eyes actually. I listed the various consultants and nurses from other countries who we have seen in recent weeks just a couple of posts ago.

VioletSky Sat 12-Aug-23 17:20:44

My neighbour doesn't get the irony of what she does as charity compared to the charity post she complained loudly on

I think that's gone over a few heads here too

DiamondLily Sat 12-Aug-23 17:15:51

A main character is a person who believes they are special and important and right in all things. They only love family who support them unconditionally. They cannot apologise, take responsibility or walk in anyone else's shoes

My neighbour is estranged from a lot of family sadly

Sorry. I don't get that family arguments, and who's supporting who in a family, to have any connection with immigrant opinions.

No one can walk in everyone's shoes...😉

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 12-Aug-23 17:15:41

So your neighbour is a main character in your opinion?

Too many people see themselves as a main character in life. Special and important. Other human meaningless characters that don't matter unless they are supporting characters to the main characters life.

It's truly sad

Everyone matters and deserves happiness

Well, I would guess, for most people, their lives and the lives of their family, do matter most, in their heads.

Why wouldn't they?

With respect you’re arguing a subject that you obviously have little knowledge of.
Can I ask why, when you quote a post you write in perceived text but your own post is in bold which is used for emphasis.

Like most on here I think, perhaps you can enlighten me with your knowledge 😊

I post from my phone so this is the best I can do.
