RIP Michael. I loved his shows back in the day.

Oh, Parky. The best interviewer of them all. Rest in peace.

Grandmabatty Thu 17-Aug-23 10:21:45

I'm sad to hear that. I liked his chat shows

Callistemon21 Thu 17-Aug-23 10:24:06

Parky was such a wonderful interviewer, I did like his shows. They don't make them like that any more.

RIP Sir Michael

Sad to hear this news.

Redhead56 Thu 17-Aug-23 10:27:46

He was a very good chat show host he really did enjoy his guests and would often be in stitches with their funny antics.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 17-Aug-23 10:37:58

Oh Parky - RIP.

Blimey, so many of my generation popping off 😮.

eddiecat78 Thu 17-Aug-23 10:38:16

I liked his interviews with the "Hollywood Greats" but some of his interviews with young actresses were appalling. He was more interested in Helen Mirren's breasts than her acting ability

LovesBach Thu 17-Aug-23 10:40:12

Sad news; his Saturday evening chat shows were part of my childhood.

crazyH Thu 17-Aug-23 10:40:21

The best chat show host r.I.p. Michael Parkinson

luluaugust Thu 17-Aug-23 10:41:49

I immediately thought of him talking to Fred Astaire. RIP

Georgesgran Thu 17-Aug-23 10:48:51

I hope Billy Connelly does the eulogy - I think Parky said he was one of his best guests. Billy had Parky in stitches every time.
RIP

So sad to hear, he was exceptional. RIP

GrannyGravy13 Thu 17-Aug-23 11:15:23

RIP Parky 💐

He didn't look very well the last time he was photographed. I'm probably alone in saying this, I wasn't always keen on his style of interviewing with some female guests, came across as intrusive sometimes, imo. Sorry to read he has died though.

Witzend Thu 17-Aug-23 11:57:05

Hmmm. I went right off him when I saw him interviewing a very young Charlotte Church. He was basically asking about her sex life and (to me anyway) came across as a dirty old man.
It made me cringe.

His interviews with Billy Connolly were priceless! Sorry he has died , take on board the comments about the young women interviewees I don’t remember them but agree that’s not on. Mostly good shows though I did like him

JenniferEccles Thu 17-Aug-23 12:18:19

Although on the whole I did like him, and am obviously sorry to hear he has died, I did find his interview technique to be a bit sycophantic at times, almost fawning over some of his guests.

Sorry to hear about Parky. 💐💐I liked his early interviews. I obviously missed his interviews with young women.

Such a lovely man and brilliant at getting people to open up. Not many as good as he was.

I liked his interviews as well Mollygo we both must have missed the less pleasant ones.
RIP Parky.

The Parkinsons and Stephenson/Connolly family were close neighbours in Bray, with houses backing onto the river.

As with Michael Caine, Billy is a natural raconteur, turn the key and off they go. Parkinson’s skill was in allowing it and laughing in all the right places.

He had hard hitters too, like Dr Jacob Bronowski.
His journalistic background was his good foundation, checking research, digging deep, revelling in a scoop.
I remember him introducing Lauren Bacall then drying up, starstruck!
He is being mourned in Australia apparently, as they loved him there, cricket mad as he was.

Apparently the BBC wiped tapes of his earliest shows with Lennon for example.

This morning the DM heading was Parkinson, the man who interviewed John Legend!!

His style of interviewing was ‘of its time’.

Don’t think it would seem so acceptable nowadays.

Wonder if they’ll show the Helen Mirren one?

RIP Parky

He flirted with Miss Piggy, definitely would not be allowed now 🙄
